Chapter Text

Chapter 1

The great hall was abuzz with excited chatter and cheers. The gathered students from all three competing schools were all in attendance for this event.

The champion selection for the triwizard tournament.

Many students from first year to seventh were waiting in anticipation for it to start, watching closely as the elder headmaster, Albus Dombledore and the headmaster and headmistress of the other two academies arrived into the room.

With a wave, the room was silenced, not a sound to be made as the old wizard approached the ancient looking cup at the centre of the room. Its massive size engraved with ancient runes of old as the deep sap[phire flame danced above its entrance.

Ablus waved towards the flame, wisps of blue fire licking his palm as they dance around the cup, giving the students a show of its magical power they had waited all day to see. Suddenly it pooped, a cackle of something escaping the top of the cup.

Floating down towards the wizard's outstretched hand was a singed piece of parchment. Flipping it over, Albus looked towards the headmaster of Durmstrang academy, the former dark wizard sneering at him in return.

“The champion of Drumstrang academy” Albus paused for effect as the students held their breath. “Is Victor Krum!” he finished, the hall erupting into a thunderous round of cheers as the older students made his way through the crowd. Disappearing into the back room with his headmaster in toe.

A second piece of parchment escaped the cup after they left, falling into Dumbledore's hand as he smiled. “The champion of Beauxbatons academy, Fleur Delacour” he said, watching as the pretty blonde witch moved away from her classmates, following the giantess of a headmaster into the back room to await the final champion.

“ And finally, the champion of Hogwarts academy” Dumbledore spoke, watching as the final piece of parchment flew from the cup's flame, falling into his waiting hand. A smile came to her face as he looked towards his waiting students.

“Cedric Diggory!” he called, the students of his school erupting into various cheers and shouts, the brown haired seventh year coming forward, accepting the parchment with his name on it as Dumbloedoor waved him into the other room.

Looking towards the ancient cup, the older man moved to seal it for the time being, putting it away until the next stage of the tournament required its attendance.

Only to stop, the great hall falling into a deafening silence as the cup started….acting odd.

The deep blue flames pulsing oddly as if it was….Ablus’s eyes widened in shock as it spit out another piece of parchment, the burned paper floating through the air towards him as he stood, slowly reaching for the it with a hint of hesitation.

Looking the piece over, Dumbledore could barely breath as he looked at the name emblazoned upon the paper.

“H…Harry potter” he whispered, his voicer carrying through the hall with ease. Everyone heard the name as they stared in utter confusion.

Harry potter? The boy who lived.

The boy that disappeared after his second year without a trace?

Before anyone could speak, the goblet of fire erupted with a blazing inferno. The fire reaching higher and higher into the air, whips of flame creating a large circle of magical fire above the ancient artefact.

The next second, the circle was filled with a hazy mist, the sounds of battle being heard throughout the great hall. Metal clashing against metal, explosions of fire being heard as the students flinched from the noise.

The teachers had all of their wands trained on the strange portal,

A shout came from beyond the portal, something crashing harshly near it as rocks and bits of earth shot out of the mist and into the great hall. The teachers reacted immediately, the nearby students being pulled away as shield charms were erected to protect them from anything further.

“Ahhh fuck!” a voice yelled, a figure being thrown through the portal, crashing harshly against the stone floors. The figure was clad in dark black clothing, looking like battle wizard attire. His coat looked like it was fitted with tough leather to protect him as his lower face was hidden by a high collar scarf, his head topped with a large witch hat. In his right hand was a large staff, a pulsing purple gem centered at the top of the staff.

Another shout and a harsh crack made everyone look back towards the portal, a second figure being thrown through it as they crashed into the floor near the black clad man. The new figure rolled in his landing, standing in a crouch beside the wizard as he glared towards the portal.

Everyone looked at the new figure, noting that they looked no older than one of their forth year students. A head of golden blonde hair, tipped with a hint of blue and a pair of…cat ears on top of their head.

Only then did they all notice the fluffy blonde tail poking out from under their long white coat, the coat itself sporting a brown leather harness as the figure kept the large silver sword in a guarded stance.

Off to the side of the hall, a silver eyed blonde girl looked at the man's ears in wonder. Taking some delight at the fact they twitched so cutely to every noise around him. She wondered if he could hear as well as a cat could with them. Hopefully he would be open to some questions.

“Well damn Harry…did you have to do that?” the blonde spoke, sheathing the sword on his black with a click as he threw a hand out of the black clad figure. The now named Harry grabbed the man's outstretched hand, letting him be pulled to his feet with a pained grunt.

“Not my fault you didn’t avoid the shockwave Barbatos” Harry grumbled, brushing the dust and dirt off of his outfit as he finally surveyed the room they were in. “I…where the hell are we?” he asked, in wonder as Barabtos gave him a raised eyebrow.

Only for them to shoot up towards his hairline as he finally realised they were on the battlefield anymore.

They were in some kind of strange room, surrounded by strange people with sticks pointed at them in strange mage-like outfits.

How strange.

“So….you know where we are or should we just, wing it like normal?” Barbatos whispered to Harry, getting a groan from the mage as he hit the gunbreaker on the back of the head with his staff.

“How about we just, I don't know, ask someone where we are!” he grumbled out as the cat boy chuckled back at him with a grin. Before the two could continue they noticed the old grey bearded man striding towards them.

Oddly enough he didn’t have his stick trained on them but it was stool in his grip nonetheless.

“Hello there” the man greeted, giving off the aura of a wizened old man as she watched the two newcomers carefully. “May I ask how the two of you suddenly, appeared within the walls of my school, during such an important event as well” he asked kindly as Barabtos gave him a raised eyebrow in return.

Before he could say anything, Harry stepped forward, keeping his staff within view of the man as he stood staring directly into his eyes.

“We would like to know that as well, during our fight we were thrown in this misty portal and ended up here, I assume you already have an idea as to why that is” the blackmage asked carefully, watching as the old man nodded to him slowly.

“Why don't we have this discussion in private, away from the praying ears of my curious student body” he said, nudging his head for the two to glance around the room. Only then did the two make note of the entire room staring at them in wonder and suspicion.

Harry nodded to the man, letting him lead the way while Barbatos gave one last look around them before following, ignoring the whispers he could pick up from the nearby students and teachers.

Why were they so surprised around his tail, it wasn’t even that interesting compared to some of his fellow miqotes.

Entering the back room after Harry, he followed his blackmage friend down the steps into the lower room, noticing a bunch of teachers and official looking mages in the room along with what seemed to be three students with them.

“Is something wrong professor?” the brown haired teen asks, looking at the two in interest before looking at the older wizard intently.

“Nothing of the sort my boy, just an interesting event that occurred after you three were chosen” Albus explained kindly as he turned towards the two official looking wizards in the group.

“It seems that someone has tampered with the goblet of fire, and it produced a forth name for all of the students and teachers to see” he explained, shocking the group. Before the other two headmasters could yell at him for cheating, albus held his hand up to silence everyone.

“The name that appeared, was of someone that had disappeared from my school almost two years ago, so they are currently not a student to ease your worries of cheating” he said before turning towards the black clad mage beside the cat boy.

“The name…was Harry potter”

That got a reaction from the mage, his green eyes widening underneath his hat as Barbatos looked at him in confusion. Since when did Harry give out his second name except around his fellow scions.

Slowly, the mage pulled his hat from his head, lowering his scarf from his face as he gave the gathered wizards an impios smile. The teachers who had interacted with the boy two years ago were shocked at his appearance.

This wasn’t the fourteen year old they had expected if he did return to the school this year.

No this was a sixteen year old battle hardened mage before them, a long scar going jaggedly down from his right eye and across his nose. His famous lightning bolt scar blazing on his forehead as his untamable black hair looked as clean as can be from being under a hat all day.
“My gods, its really harry potter” cornelius fudge said, looking at the young wizard with wide eyes. Having spent days on end in the ministry looking for the famous boy when he had disappeared ruling the last few weeks of his second year.

That had really sent the wizarding world into a frenzy as that defeater of he who must not be named had disappeared, most thinking he was kidnapped or even killed during the event of the reopening of the chamber of secrets.

“Harry, where have you been, why do you look so much older?” the old witch Megonagall asked as she carefully approached the boy she used to teach. “Its been almost two years, what happened as added as the teen scratched the back of his head with a awkward chuckle.

“I think that is a story for another time” Albus cut in, turning towards the young wizard and giving his patterned old man smile. Not as creepy as it sounds honestly. “With the rules of the goblet in place and the fact Harry had been summoned by the goblet to the tournament, he must now compete in order to satisfy the contact placed upon him” he explained to everyone around them.

“And what school would he be under Dumbledore, are you trying to pull a fast one on us” the headmaster of Durmstrang scowled, marching up to the older man with a dirty sneer on his face.

“I will be competing under my home, Eorzea,” Harry spoke up, his voice making everyone stare at him in disbelief. The fact he had already decided to compete under another name eased the minds of the other headmasters. At least they wouldn’t have to deal with Hogwarts having an advantage in the tournament.

“That will do nicely Harry, now I believe we have the clue to the first task and then I would implore everyone to head to bed as we will need to have some meetings tomorrow to hash out these new details, isn't that right cornelius” Albus said, smiling down att the fidgeting minster.

“Yes yes, you are right Dumbledore, now, bagman, the clue we are on a schedule now” the minster said, looking towards the oddly excited man behind him.

“Oh yes oh yes, now my deal champions, all four of you” he said, laughing at the idea of the competition being even more unique than ever before. “Your first task will be one of bravery, wrought with unknown danger that you must face with all your skills to advanave forward, come November 24th the first task will begin” he said, giving them all a vague clue towards the task.

Not helpful at all if you asked Barbatos.

“Now with that we will be on our way” the minster said, about to leave before he caught sight of the blondes tail swishing behind him. “And who let this creature into the school?” he asked uncaringly, not knowing what he had just done.

A second later the room was filled with an intense feeling of dread, everyone turning to see Harry with his hat back on, his eyes blazing with anger towards the minister. Beside him, Bartabntos was growling softly, his features sharpened dangerously as he was slowly reaching for the handle of his sword over his shoulder.

“What did you call me?” he asked slowly, taking a step forward as the nervous man backed up slightly, fear crossing his features instantly. All of the teachers acted a second later, their wands up and pointing towards the blonde cat boy as he unsheathed his sword in response.

Behind him, Harry had his staff held tightly, glaring at the minister as the gem in the staff pulsed with his angered breathing. Before a fight could erupt between everyone, Albus stood in the middle, keeping his eyes trained on the two warriors, his arm up as if shielding the minister from them.

“That is quiet enough, leave my castle minister, any more rude comments towards my guests will not be tolerated” he said, waving the man towards the exit before turning towards the two boys. “I am sorry about that, I will have Megonagall show you both to a private chamber for the night, please don't let the words of one man ruin your impression of us” he said kindly, as Barbatos scuffed softly to himself.

“Wouldn’t be the first time I heard something unsavoury about my kinda sir” he grumbled, thinking about how ul'dah treated some of his kind while he was visiting there not too long ago.

“Lets get some rest then” Harry said, sheathing his staff on his back as he pulled his scarf over his mouth. Barbatos nodded to him, ignoring the looks he was getting from the crooked nosed man as well as the one with a giant bulging eye.

Weird thing to have attached to your face thats for sure, looks right mad that one.

Ha get it, mad.

Ah, I'm funny like that.

Following Albus up the stairs, the duo were greeted with an almost empty great hall, most of the students having returned to their dorms for the night while others lingered to catch a glimpse of the two that were summoned earlier.

Albus gestured for the green clad witch to take them towards the guest towers, Harry following along closely while Barbatos lingered back for a moment. His blue eyes looked towards the coroner of the room, spotting a light blonde haired girl watching him closely, her silver eyes brightening as she waved towards him.

Not thinking anything of it, Barbatos waved back to her before hearing Harry calling for him, the miqo'te hurrying after him as the green witch gave him a stern glare. He wasn’t even a student here and he felt he was going to get in trouble around this woman.

All the while he didn’t see the ever present smile on the girl's face brighten as if she had won something amazing that day.

“I hope you don't take what the minister said to heart, he doesn’t take to new…beings well with his old styled, upbringing” she said, glancing at the blonde as he sighed softly.

“Don't worry, I had to deal with official ass hats before, it's nothing new, Harry is the one that likes to lose his temper around the councils when they're getting mouthy” he said, laughing as he nudged the black mage with his shoulder.

Harry swatted the blonde on the back of the head while Megonagall smiled at the interaction between the two of them. She was glad that Harry at least found a true friend from wherever he had disappeared too. It was sad that he missed much of his education but that could be fixed with some tutoring if he allowed it.

Food for thought for later that's for sure.

Reaching the tower, Megonagall had barely noticed when she and the young lad, Barbatos as he introduced himself, were talking about his race. The miqotes and how they were back in his home realm.

It was quite amazing to learn about a race of cat people from a far off land, and being an animagus herself, megongall felt a bit of kinship with the cat boy. It was good to see someone with her latent instincts around the castle for once.

“Breakfast is served at 8 oclock sharpe and will end at 9, Albus will have one of the teachers escort you to his office where we will explain further about your stay at the castle” she explained promptly as she led the two into the room.

Barbatos jumped onto the couch as soon as he say it, laying back with a happy sigh while Harry shook his head at his friend's antics.

“We will be three as early as possible professor, today has been rather hectic for one thing” Harry said as the women nodded to him. Leaving the two alone, Harry turned towards the blonde can as he tossed his staff towards him.

Catching the mage weapon, Barbatos leaned forward as Harry placed himself in the seat across from him.

“You have info of this place don't you?” he said looking at Harry intently as the blackmage nodded slowly towards the cat. “We can get to that later, after taking out Ravana before that portal got me, I’m tired as all hell, how are you even standing with those ribs of yours?” he asked, looking at the teen across from him as Harry grimaced in pain.

“I was ignoring it until you pointed it out” he grunted out as Barbatos laughed at him in return. “A good night's rest will do us wonders, then we can figure out what really happened back there, at least I'm familiar with the place” he added as the cat boy nodded in return.

“Good, I’ll guard the door for the first few hours, I don't trust most of those teachers, some of them gave me a bad feeling from just standing near them” the miqo'te said, remembering how his instinct were weird when he got near a select few of the teachers.

He didn’t like what that meant but until they learned more he would need to be careful in how he acted.

“I’ll explain as just as I can over breakfast, I need to find a few people too…if they remember me after all these years” Harry replied, looking off towards the window before he felt Barbatos nudging him with his foot.

“None of that now, off to bed with you” he said smiling with a cat-like grin as Harry swatted his foot away.

“I’m older remember, no ordering me around” he snarled back as Barbatos laughed in return.

“When you can beat me in one to one then you can order me around, till then I am the oh so great warrior of light, and I need my beauty sleep” he joked as Harry gave him a joking glare.

“Warrior of light, so humble and brave…and an ass” he snarked back, heading towards one of the bed rooms as Barbatos watched him leave with a smile.

“Just another day for us aye”
