Work Text:

Sara couldn't help but notice that Grissom was distracted as she was speaking.

"So, what do you think?" she asked, trying to get his attention.

He fell out of the clouds.

Sara had also noticed that, while she was talking, he kept casting glances at the TV in front of the sofa that was on with the volume very low.

"What's going on?" she then asked. "Don't tell me it's about the Lee case again, because I’m killing someone."

He shook his head taking the remote and turning up the volume. "Heléne Gerome died."

The name was unfamiliar to Sara.

"She was a movie star when I was around ten or eleven."

Sara quirked an eyebrow, wondering why this interested Grissom so much.

"I adored her," he admitted.

This was unexpected for Sara. It was the first time she had ever heard Grissom use the verb adore referring to anything inherent to the human being.

"What?!" she asked with amused surprise.

He barely sighed. "It was really...wow..."

Sara was increasingly taken aback. " Wow ?"

The images during the service dedicated to her showed a woman who was indeed beautiful, but... wow ? Maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration. Despite this, Grissom watched the TV looking stupefied and dreamy. Sara was incredulous.

"You were really in love..." she commented softly, but still amused.

"I even wrote her a letter."

"...you, what?"

"I wrote her a letter," Grissom repeated. His voice was full of pride.

"A letter!" Sara almost burst out laughing. "And, out of curiosity, what did you write to her?"

Grissom finally realized that he was about to become Sara's laughingstock.

"I don't remember," he lied.
