I Can Take, It Like A Man

Summary:

Kirishima is trying his best to be the manliest hero in the world but he still hits some bumps along the way. He needs to train to get better but he forgets that taking breaks and letting himself recover is also part of growing. Well, at least he has teachers and a boyfriend who are always there for him and want to make sure he stays safe and doesn't overuse his quirk.

Notes:

I'm not as proud of this fic as my other ones it could definitely use some improvement but I wanted to put something out so here you go.

Work Text:

When looking at Eijirou Kirishima your first thought might be 'wow he looks tough' or 'He kinda looks like a mountain' (don’t ask) But what all these commenters didn’t know was that Eijirou wanted to be the best he wanted to be manly and cool like his idol Crimson Riot. There was only one thing standing in his way his quirk Eijirou didn’t think his quirk was cool enough or that he was flashy enough to stand out that is why he dyed his hair red just before applying to UA. His Moms had been supportive of his decision both of them actually but he could tell that they were worried he so planned to be the best to show them that there was nothing for them to worry over. And for the most part, his plan worked. But the last time Eijirou had fought the League of Villans he had ended up in the hospital for a solid week. That had terrified his Moms and he swore that he could make unbreakable just that so would never worry them again.

Now you must be wondering why does Eijirou have two moms well he was adopted since his biological parents hadn't wanted him. He was happy with his moms though and never wanted for anything so really he was glad that he was adopted but he just wished he had a more manly figure in his life sometimes. And that is part of the reason he idolized Crimson Riot he is just so manly, Eijirou wanted to be just as manly as him but he didn’t always see himself as manly enough even when Bakubro (he needed to stop using that name in his mind, they had started dating after all) assured him that he was.

Especially now when he was sitting in a puddle of his own blood because of his stupid quirk. He had been trying to hold unbreakable for longer than 20 minutes while fighting but the only thing he seemed to be achieving was getting more scars. Why couldn’t his quirk be flashy like Bakubabe’s or Kamibro’s? Well, it was useless to dwell on things he couldn’t change he might as well try unbreakable again. Plus he didn’t need to get himself started down that route again the last time he had ended up dying his hair and applying to UA. Eijirou was finally able to hold his form for an extra 5 minutes while sparring with Tetsutetsu when the world went fuzzy around the edges and everything started to go black. He collapsed to the floor having passed out from blood loss and quirk over-usage.

When Eijirou woke up he was in a hospital room. What happened and how had he gotten here? He remembers training then finally being able to hold unbreakable for longer than 20 minutes while being attacked and then nothing. Oh, he must have passed out, how unmanly. He would have to find out who had taken him to the medical wing and thank them later although it had probably been Tetsutetsu. Just then the door to the infirmary opened and Bakugou strutted in Eijirou didn’t know how Katsuki had so much confidence. Well, it probably had to do with the fact that he was amazing and his quirk was amazing. Maybe also with the way that everyone looked up to him and praised him even his parents Midobro always said that Mitsuki acted like the vermillion-eyed boy had hung the sun and moon and that he could do no wrong.

“You need to be more careful, Shitty-hair, stop overusing your quirk otherwise you will be too ugly and I won’t want to date you” Katsuki yelled with a snarl. “Babe are your hearing-aids in you’re yelling” “No hair-for-brains I had to stop training to help metal face when he came running over yelling about how you passed out and shit.” So it had been Tetsutetsu who had carried him but also Bakubabe cool, he had started to call Bakugou that in his mind when they started dating but never out loud on purpose because he liked his body parts where they currently were. “Thanks for helping babe sorry that I overused my quirk,” Eijirou said sheepishly.

He was let out of the hospital wing by recovery girl about 20 minutes later after a stern talking to about quirk over-usage. Properly remorseful Eijirou headed back to his room with his boyfriend after one last kiss from recovery girl. Once they got to Kirishima’s room he quickly grabbed his shower caddie and clothes then headed to the bathroom down the hall to take a shower. Once in the shower, Eijirou cringed at the scars that crisscrossed over his whole body. Eijirou had a problem with his self-esteem and since coming to UA and seeing everyone’s awesome quirks he just felt… plain. It’s not that he didn’t like his quirk, he just wished it was cooler and more manly, ya know? Eijirou knew Katsuki hadn’t meant it when he said that he would stop dating him if he got too ugly but sometimes Eijirou wondered if he might really not be enough for Katsuki and that one-day Katsuki would realize it and leave him.
But Katsuki hadn’t left yet and they were still dating so Eijirou would take the time he could get. He quickly finished his shower and got dressed before heading back to his room to play a round of Mario Cart with Katsuki.

When Eijirou heads to class the next day he hears someone calling his name from down the hall. It was Mr. Aizawa's crap he was probably going to get a lecture about overusing his quirk again. “Aizawa sensei do you need me” “Yes Kirishima I was just notified by Recovery Girl that you have been admitted to the infirmary for the 5th time this week today care to explain” Crap he was in trouble how unmanly. “Uh about that Sensei I didn’t mean to overuse my quirk and pass out it just happened and I know it’s the 5th time this week but I really really want to be a super manly hero and if that means training until I drop I’ll do it.”
Aizawa shook his head at his student “Kirishima I want you to know that training until you drop is not a good strategy to succeed as a hero there must be a balance.” “Okay, Sensei I’ll be more careful in the future” Aizawa nodded “see that you are, I don’t want to have to cut your hero career short even before it has started but reckless heroes are not effective heroes.” “right Aizawa Sensei see you in class” Aizawa watched as Kirishima bounded into the classroom and his energy reminded Aizawa of a different kid from a different time one who had never made it past the age of 18. He would do everything in his power to prevent a tragedy like that from happening again even if it meant expelling a student. Kids deserve to live their lives innocent of pain and tragedy and anyone who thought otherwise would soon understand what real pain was.

comments and kudos are greatly appreciated and motivate me to write more so if you like my stuff let me know.
Also, I tried to fix my spacing for the dialogue in this fic let me know if it still needs improvement.
