Nap

Summary:

Nap prompt on tumblr Delphia needs to rest

Work Text:

Alessia watched as her little seer paced around the desk in her room again. She was overwhelmed and couldn’t, or maybe wouldn’t, tell anyone the issue. She kept showing up in her room and they’d reminisce until Delphia fell silent. After that she’d start wandering the desk and each time a hand was offered push it away. It was painful to watch. It didn’t help that her little seer had bags under her eyes from the lack of sleep too.

“You look tired, perhaps you should rest,” she offered. It was the first time Alessia drew attention to the exhaustion so clear to her.

She brought her hands closer, planning to cup them around her seer. Instead Delphia stumbled away and looked at her with fear. It was like when they’d only just met, she pushed through her love’s fear bringing her hand close. Slowly she cupped her hand around her, fingers wrapping around and trapping her seer. Delphia leaned into her touch, the fear falling away. It was something so simple, the trust of the two.

“A nap could help, my seer,” she offered. The fear came back and her love shook her head. “Please talk to me, what’s wrong?”

Small hands found purchase on one of her fingers. They dug in and she couldn’t believe she could feel that small amount of pressure. Her seer was scared of something, but she’d protect her. She didn’t like the fear in her love’s face. She tightened her fingers around the small form and lifted her off the desk. She turned her hand to give Delphia a kind of seat rather than dangling in her hold. She brought the small seer up to her face and studied the look in her eyes.

“I can’t… I can’t sleep and I can’t explain. Just… can we let this keep happening,” Delphia whispered. Alessia’s heart broke and pulled her love closer to her face. She watched as those usually bright green eyes turned dull again as some invisible possibility ran through her mind. She pressed the small girl to her nose and waited for those eyes to brighten once more.

“Tell me love,” she said. She didn’t try to keep her voice quiet and knew how it would rumble through her seer. They’d talked a lot about how their sizes change things. Delphia blushed, the reminder hopefully enough to break her thoughts free.

“I…” Alessia hummed to encourage her and the blush fell from Delphia’s face. The small girl was now crying as she hugged the nose she was pressed against. “I met someone last time that said I was only dreaming. The next time I slept I’d see the reality I’ve hidden from. I-I know it’s not true, but I’m so scared if it is true. I don’t want to lose you, or-or Ash, or our family…”

Alessia wanted to find whoever caused this and make them pay. Instead she was gentle as she pulled her crying love from her nose and held her over her heart. She moved to the bed she had in her room, decoration more than necessity and laid on her back. She let the grip she’d had on Delphia loosen so her tiny love could grow comfortable. She was always glad her clothes were somehow soft despite being armor.

“Nap Delphia,” she murmured. “I’ll be here when you wake up and if I’m not I swear I’m already on my way to find you. I hadn’t given up when you ran away, some secret truth you’ve missed won’t succeed in separating us.”

“Do you promise?” Delphia whispered. It was something Alessia loved, hearing the whispers that shouldn’t be possible to hear from their size. It was something Delphia did, only she could hear her seer right now.

“With all I am, now rest.” She moved a bit to be able to rub Delphia’s back with a finger. “I bet after this we can convince Ash to go to the clearing again too.”

“That would be nice…”
