Chapter Text
"Another one?"
The case file came abruptly flying over Jungeun's head and landed on the desk in front of her with a 'thump'.
"I'm already working on a case!" She complained with a sigh. She threw her head back on the chair and spun around, letting her body go completely limp as she took in the stress that would come with working on two cases at once.
"You're being dramatic. Plus, right now you're not. From what I can see, you're browsing for cat beds," Jiwoo pointed out with a smirk. Jungeun instantly perked up and turned to her computer, where Jiwoo's observations were proved to be correct. She scrambled to close the tab, which closed to reveal another tab open that was playing YouTube, to Jiwoo's amusement.
"He needs a new one..." she mumbled in embarrassment
"Well, since it really doesn't look like you're taking your job seriously at the moment, open the file. This one's interesting."
Jungeun glanced at Jiwoo suspiciously.
"You said that last time," She retorted, hesitantly reaching for the file. "Trust me," Jiwoo asked.
Jungeun flipped open the file at hand and scanned the first page. Jiwoo watched on with a knowing look on her face. She already knew that Jungeun would give up everything to front this case.
"Five assassinations, five different countries, five important figures of authority, five days. No pattern. No traces. No suspects." Jiwoo explained as Jungeun silently read through the case.
She flipped through the pages, looking at the autopsy reports and pictures of the crime scenes. If it wasn't for the five day streak, these kills would've seemed sporadic. They spanned from Moscow to Washington and all autopsy reports state different causes of death. Jungeun was utterly entranced. Whoever did this was showing off, and it was evident.
"Why hasn't there been a meeting about this yet?" She asked, to which Jiwoo shrugged. "I don't think they want it to be a big thing yet, but detective Park asked me to specifically give that to you."
Jungeun gasped and looked up at Jiwoo, then back down at the file, clutched in her hands.
"She asked you? To give this to me?"
Jiwoo nodded with a smile, "she clearly knows the potential that you have. So what do you say? You want to look deeper into it yet?"
Jiwoo already knew the answer. Jungeun adored an unsolved case, and one as intriguing as this couldn't go unscathed by Jungeun. Even Jiwoo was a little jealous that it was being handed to Jungeun. However, everyone in the department knew her potential and knew how diligent she was when it came to researching and solving cases. She was a maverick in her field, and truly a key agent in the department.
At Jiwoo's question, she closed the file in her hands and held it closely to her.
"Of course I do."
