Work Text:

After another rescue gone right, Splendid just wants to take a nice, warm bath, but his damsel Giggles is feeling particularly full of love, like she just might burst from it, little pieces of her heart bursting from every corner.

Splendid stretches his arms out in front of Giggles. She has less than three minutes to think of a reward before Splendid takes off and saves the next person. Giggles has thought it over, long and hard, many times, even the times Splendid had failed to save her. Kisses are standard reward for heroes, and Splendid just might be the best hero this town might have, so what else would be the best reward for Splendid the Flying Squirrel?

"Can I kiss you?" Giggles blurts out, her hands behind her back, shifting her weight from one foot to the other as she goes up on her tippy toes and leans forward. She looks so shy and sweet that Splendid almost misses the look of pure amorousness on her face. "Oh, Splendid!"

"Hey, hey, hey," Splendid says, his brows furrowing, a frown settling on his lips as he holds his hands out in front of him. He backs away from Giggles when she looks up at him through her lashes and straight up swoons, nearly falling at his feet all because he had saved her from danger. "You don't want to kiss me."

Giggles tilts her head to the side, frowning at Splendid, and Splendid's hands are shaking from how hard he's been holding back. "Why not?" she asks, holding her head-eating bow back so it doesn't fall from her hair, looking genuinely bewildered at the idea that Splendid thinks she doesn't really want to kiss him. "It's not a rush of emotion. I really do want to kiss you. I have always... I have always wanted to kiss you, my hero."

And so Giggles does, tilting her head upward, cupping Splendid's face with her small hands, running the pads of her thumbs along his jaw, kissing him so hard he feels like he's getting all the air sucked from his lungs.

Giggles breaks away, and Splendid is left reeling.

The ghost of a smile twitches at the corners of Splendid's lips as he tilts his head to face Giggles and lifts a hand to his mouth. “Did you just kiss me?” he says when he pulls his fingers away and sees them come away stained pink with Giggles' lipstick. "You really are a brave one, aren't you? Is that my prize?"

“Was I not supposed to?” Giggles asks, biting her lip. She looks so cute that Splendid can feel himself aching. She looks so cute that he just wants to bend down again and be the one to kiss her this time. She looks so cute that he can't help but wonder why he had wasted all of that time waiting when she was here now, kissing him.

Splendid looks down at Giggles expectantly.

"I didn't mean it as a prize. I know how much you value your integrity as a hero..." Giggles sighs softly. Splendid coughs at the sentiment, then covers his mouth with his balled fist. He was far from being a noble superhero by any means, but he wasn't about to let Giggles know. It would ruin all of his chances with her if she knew how many times he had failed to save the people of their town. "I just thought you might have wanted a kiss for good luck on your next mission. Really! For good luck."

“I don’t know," Splendid muses, a little disbelieving. He doesn't wipe the pink lipstick away from his mouth. He lets it linger there like pain, like a promise. "But could you do it again?” He smiles. "I'm not really feeling the luck yet. Maybe you should do it again. Are you up to-"

Splendid doesn't get to say another word, because Giggles is already launching herself forward, her arms wrapping around the base of his neck, kissing him.
