Sweet Kisses (Kuroo)

Work Text:

I had studied for my chemistry test harder than any other test this year. And I was exhausted. I could feel my brain trying to screech to a halt with every passing step.

I glanced towards Kuroo, who was walking me home today since Kenma had rushed home to play a new video game that had just dropped. He noticed my wandering gaze and raised an eyebrow in a silent question.

I shrugged in response. I wasn’t certain how well I had done but it was over and right now, that was enough. I returned the question with my own eyebrow raise.

He smirked smugly causing me to roll my eyes but still give him a small smile. Of course, he could be smug about it. He was one of the few students who even knew the full term for DHA.

I gave a small sigh and let my gaze drift forwards again. I was so drained. I decided to just let my thoughts spiral to wherever they wanted.

It had definitely helped that Kuroo was my lab partner, he had been super sweet by explaining things to me that I didn’t understand. What didn’t help me was how I was constantly distracted because of my huge crush on the volleyball captain.

It took a while for me to realize that I liked him romantically. At first, he was just a snarky boy that had been assigned as my partner and after a few days, we realized that we had the same sense of humor. I soon learned that he was the captain of the boy's volleyball team and he invited me to come watch a few of their games. I plucked up enough courage to go and it didn’t take long for me to become a fan.

The first game that I had gone to, Kuroo had immediately spotted me. He had taken it upon himself to find me after the game and introduce me to his team. They were all super nice and I even made friends with Kenma when we discovered we both had a love for video games. It was also sweet when Taketora tried to convince me to become the manager of the team.

Eventually, I started hanging out with Kuroo and Kenma outside of school. I found out that I lived a couple of blocks from Kenma and we all started walking to and from school, hanging out on the weekends, playing video games, or just tossing around a volleyball and chatting. It was during one of those times that I realized that my feelings for Kuroo had changed.

Specifically when it had been the two of us and I had bundled up in his jacket and he had commented on how cute I looked wearing his clothes. Then he’d dragged me closer to him till we were practically hugging and he said he’d help keep me warm.

I don’t know if it was the comment, the action, or just Kuroo being Kuroo but I was pretty sure that’s when I knew I liked him.

I huffed out a breath at the direction of my thoughts. If I turned my head and looked at him, I would definitely blush or do something stupid that would let Kuroo know my feelings for him. I wasn’t certain that it would be a bad thing. I knew he had a slew of admirers but I didn’t know if he knew that I was one of them would help or hurt my chances with him. I had a feeling that he liked me too but fear of losing his friendship kept me from confessing to him.

I felt something gently nudge my shoulder. Turning my head slightly in the direction, I saw that Kuroo was giving me another eyebrow raise but this time in concern.

I shook my head and gave him a small smile, “Don’t worry about it. Just thinking.”

“Thinking, huh? That’s dangerous. What about?”

I rolled my eyes and at the same time bit my tongue from saying “You'' and instead said, “Chemistry.”

A fiendish smirk appeared on his face, causing my stomach to do flip flops and I desperately tried to hide the way he affected me by scowling at him instead.

“I don’t like that face.”

He snorted, “You love this face,” his grin widened, “but let’s discuss chemistry.”

I could feel the blush starting to heat my cheeks at the comment. If he only knew how right on the mark he was. I cleared my throat, trying to regain my composure.

“To be honest with you, I’d rather not. That test kinda wiped me out.”

“Oh, I wasn’t talking about the test.”

His tone of voice made me nervous again and I asked, “Then what are you talking about?”

My voice had come out shakier than I would have liked, my nerves getting the better of me.

“I’m talking about the chemistry between you and me. I kept waiting for you to realize how much I liked you. I mean, Kenma told me that my crush on you was obvious.”

I stumbled in surprise and whipped my head towards him, my eyes as big as saucers. He continued forward as if he hadn’t just said the most shocking thing ever until he realized that I had stopped a few feet behind him.

He turned around until we were facing each other, him gazing at me with what I could only describe as fond amusement.

“Wha-what?” My breath seemed to have left me in a rush as I sputtered out my question.

Kuroo gave me a smirk as he said, “Unlike you, I didn’t stutter.”

I felt the blush start again from the base of my neck to the tips of my ears. I looked away from him and cleared my throat, trying to collect my thoughts.

“If it was so obvious why did it take you this long to confess?” I glanced back towards him and I was rewarded with a blushing Kuroo. My heart squeezed in response to the cute expression.

He gave a light chuckle, scratching the back of his head shyly, “Yeah, ok, you got me there.”

I bit my lip, “So, I suppose I should tell you that I like you too, huh?” I glanced back up at him from under my lashes.

I found myself holding my breath although I wasn't sure why. He had just confessed to liking me as well. Our light banter was no different than any other day, unless, we had always had that undertone of flirting beneath it. Perhaps we had both just been waiting for the right moment to admit it.

A huge grin split across his face, “Damn but I was hoping you were gonna say that.”

I felt my confidence bloom at his reaction and I gave him a smirk of my own, “Were you now?”

“Yeah, cuz you know what that means, right?”

“Maybe I wanna hear you say it.”

He chuckled and stepped close enough so that he could grab my hands, linking our fingers together.

“Like the sound of my voice, huh?” It came out lower and a little husky, sending a little shiver through me.

“Are you gonna keep me waiting?” I asked, my own voice slightly lower as well. I could feel my heart beating faster in expectation.

“This,” he squeezed my fingers in his, “means that you are officially my girlfriend.”

I laughed a little breathily, “I didn’t hear a question there.”

He waited for a beat but it seemed like forever until he finally asked, “Will you be my girlfriend?”

He dipped his head a little lower towards mine till we were staring directly into each other's eyes.

It was my turn to take a moment, “If I say yes-”

He cocked an eyebrow, “If?”

I smiled, holding his gaze, “If,” I stressed the word, “what happens then?”

Kuroo’s smile took on a devilish edge, and in the next moment, I watched as his head dipped and I felt his lips press against mine. After a second to process, I closed my eyes with a sigh and leaned into the kiss.

His hands traveled from my hands to rest at my waist, pulling me closer towards him. I let my own wander to the base of his neck, letting one tangle in his ridiculous bed head that I had come to love.

The kiss was sweet, a gentle molding of mouths that bellied the snarky attitude he usually gave off. After a few moments, he pulled away only to press his forehead against my own. I slowly opened my eyes, seeing his own gazing back at me, an adoring look on his face.

“If you say yes, it means that I get to kiss you whenever I want.”

I blinked, then snickered, “And what about when I want?”

“Then too,” he smiled.

I pulled away a bit so I could see him clearly. Linking my arms around his neck, I leaned against his muscled frame. His arms wound around my waist holding me there.

“After an offer like that, how can I say no?”

His whole face lit up like he had just received the best present ever and asked, “That’s a yes?”

I grinned, “That’s a definite yes.”

“And now,” he leaned closer till our noses were touching, “you’re mine and I can do this,” he gave me a quick peck on the lips, “anytime I want.”

I laughed at his silliness, “What can I say, you are an incredible negotiator.”

His usual smirk returned, “Damn right.”

He leaned down again, capturing my lips in another sweet kiss.
