Chapter Text
All around him, children were sniffling or quietly crying silently. Some even softly whimpering for their loved ones, who were undoubtedly dead. After all, all of them here weren’t older than 13 years old. Any older, they would have been killed off by the virus, no exceptions whether you were good or bad. Well, all except those damn vampires. Yuu narrows his eyes as he silently curses them for their current predicament. He felt a squeeze on his hand and heard a small whimper coming from his left side. He looks down, it was one of the younger children from the orphanage he was dumped in today. The small child was trying hard not to cry but obviously to no avail as big blobs of tears streaming down.
Yuu was an only child and had rarely actually made any contact with children before. His parents were pretty adamant in not letting him being seen until... Well, to put it shortly, he doesn't have a damn clue what to do right now. Unsure, he glances around, looking for any kind of help. Finally, his eyes landed on the girly-looking boy with blonde hair who was not too far from him with two other younger children separating them.
What was his name? Yuu scrunches up his eyebrows as he searches through his memories from the hectic day. Michael? No, uhhh... Mika-- Mikaela?
As if the said boy sense the quiet, mental plead from the raven head, Mika looks to his side, almost startled by the boy’s intense stare. Yuu gives a small awkward jerk with his head to the sniffling boy who still clinging onto him. Mika blinks at him before smiling and then begin to turn his attention to one of the young girls in between them. She was also clinging onto the blonde’s shirt, frighten but still calmed. He rubs her back in gentle slow circles before looking back up to Yuichiro again, gesturing with a glance to the young boy to do the same that he's having trouble with.
Yuu turns back to the boy at his side. He raises his left hand with hesitation before he places it on the child's back and begin to mimic what Mikaela show him earlier. To his horror, the boy began to cling even more by hugging him and burying his face onto Yuichiro’s t-shirt. To his relief though, the kid crying was muffled and slowly subsiding.
Then he heard a soft laugh– no, giggles. His head whips to the sound to the two culprits, Mika and a girl, their age he presume, with a side ponytail. He would have snap at them as their grins grew wider and they cover their mouth to stifle their laughter at his unamused expression, but the happy sounds were a pleasant diversion from the heavy atmosphere.
Unfortunately, the brief noise of happiness stop as the truck jerk to a halt. All of them even those who were bawling their eyes out, suddenly became quiet and tense, stilling their breath. The huge metal door opens. Yuu squints as a bright light peeks through the opening crack into the dark back of the truck.
“Alright! Get up and get out now!” A sharp male voice bark at them.
Some of the children wince or gasp at the sound and at the appearance of two glaring vampires, even Yuichiro would have back away slightly had he not been held in place by the vice grip of the clinging crying child. One by one, the children reluctantly stood up and slowly walk out of the truck. He tries to stand up, though it was a bit difficult since the small boy was still almost holding him down and his legs had fallen asleep from the long drive. He hisses in slight pain as he feels the electric shock piercing through his feet, blood recirculating again.
“Are you ok, Yuu-chan? Do you need help?”
He look up to see the smiling blonde boy standing next to him, already offering a hand toward him. His chest swell with slight irritation at the offer even if he did, sort of, ask his help before earlier. Unable to throw away his leftover pride, he gives a small tsk before willing himself to stand up quickly, with his new attachment and all. Big mistake.
Immediately he stumbles when he stand up too quickly and with the additional body weight attach to his hip, threaten to fall over flat on his face. He didn’t. Two hands quickly grab hold of his shoulders and steady him as extra support.
“Careful, Yuu-chan!”
Yuu felt his ears burn in embarrassment at the thought that he temporarily made a fool of himself.
“D-Don’t touch me!” He jerks away from Mika’s hands and begin to walk, with the kid, away toward the door, “I don’t need any help!”
He was relieved when his new attachment loosened his grip and allowed him to have his personal space once again when they were climbing out of the truck. Yuichiro felt his breath still again, once he taken in the sight. It was a city. An underground city. The city was moderately well-lit in the dark cavern.
The small dash of hope was crack as he realize, there wasn’t an escape. Certainly not an easy one now.
