Work Text:
Dark Choco Cookie had wandered through the snow and ice of his childhood kingdom for some days now. He was finally free from that wretched sword. There were loose ends all over the place, and he would have to tie them up one by one.
There he stood in front of Dark Enchantress' Cookie's castle. As if something out of a fairy tale, it was hidden from the outside world. Even though it was, ironically, a beacon of light with all the candles sticking out of it.
He did not expect his former accomplices to have made their way back to the castle just yet, giving him just enough time to gather his few valued things and say a final "Fuck you" to Dark Enchantress before heading off to forge a new path.
The castle was continuously lit with light with no source. Nothing could be heard except the clanking of Dark Choco's armor as he walked the halls, bag thrown over his shoulder.
There it was, the doors to Dark Enchantress' chambers. He pushed them open with little force, causing the doors to be slammed against the walls. Picture frames and other items strewn across the room shook.
There sat Dark Enchantress at her desk, facing the doorway for no other manner than the aesthetic. An obscene smile was plastered across her face, almost as if he was expecting Dark Choco to show up. "And I take it the others failed at their mission," she said, unsurprised. He scowled at his former master.
"I'm done serving you." He bluntly stated, cutting straight to his point. "You and dark forces will control me no longer."
She let out a chuckle. "I knew this day would come. You were never quite like the others, actually having a will of your own, even if tainted." Dark Choco felt anger swell up inside him as Dark Enchantress continued to talk. "You remind me a lot of myself when I was younger."
White Lily Cookie. Confusion flashed in his mind. "What do… I am nothing like you," he said, teeth gritted. Dark Enchantress continued to laugh at him.
"Pull up a seat. It's time I told someone this story," she said, using what little magic she had regained to pull a book to her off a shelf. Dark Choco didn't move from the doorway. She smirked, using the same magic to pull Dark Choco in off his feet and into the chair in front of her.
"I'm not listening to anything you say. You may have once been my fath- one of the five but that was long ago," he said, attempting to move from his seat before Dark Enchantress forced him back down.
"No no no. That was all a fabrication," she said, opening the book in front of her. This sparked Dark Choco's interest. "White Lily Cookie. A brilliant disguise, no? I fooled everyone until I was luckily once again rebaked, allowing me to regain my true form once again."
Dark Enchantress flipped through more of the book until she came across an illustration of seven cookies worshiping an eighth and ninth cookie. "Surely you've heard of the legends of the Millennial Tree?" She questioned, half expecting an answer. "Over a thousand years ago, there I was. Red Lily Cookie."
Dark Enchantress pointed to one of the seven cookies. "Alongside the whole bunch of them. Times were simpler back then."
Dark Choco interrupted. "You mean to tell me all those legends aren't some old wives tales, and you were there?" he asked sarcastically, crossing his arms.
She ignored his comment and continued. "There I was with them all. Fire Spirit, Moonlight, Sea Fairy, Wind Archer, Timekeeper, and Frost Queen. We were practically children, knowing nothing except following Millennial Tree." Oddly enough, she didn't mention the ninth cookie in the picture.
Dark Choco listened to her story hesitantly. Half of him was telling him to get out of there, and the other half wanted to hear her out. "Although, I was not quite like the rest. I often wanted to do my own thing and not my daily tasks. Much like you. I would spend hours researching what I wanted, discovering how and why cookies were made."
Dark Enchantress paused for a moment before sighing. "Although, you know how that turned out. Otherwise, I would get in trouble for my 'wrongdoings' while the others would get away with pretty much anything. Like stealing the Red Dragon's orb, but that isn't important here. As time went on, I felt angrier and angrier until poof, I couldn't take it anymore."
"This is when I became who I am today, Dark Enchantress Cookie. I turned my back against them all, even the one I loved-"
Dark Choco cut her off. "Love? You have the capacity to love someone?"
She glared at him. "If I had all my strength back I would've thrown you from the window. Consider yourself lucky. But, yes. I loved someone. Timekeeper. Unfortunately, everything comes to an end one way or another. All of those cookies, gone or cursed by my hand. And let me tell you, it felt liberating. However, I couldn't do whatever I wanted then. I had to hide. And that's how White Lily Cookie was made. I disguised myself as a young cookie. Do you know how infuriating it is to be talked down to like a child and be 'taught' about yourself?"
Dark Choco kept silent, allowing her to continue. "For quite some years, that's how it was. I was the quiet, eccentric White Lily Cookie. Hell, I remember the day you were born. I was in the delivery room as you came out of Pure Vanilla screaming your head off-"
He cut her off again. "Ok, I get it. But what does this all have to do with me? Why are you even telling me this?"
Dark Enchantress once again laughed. "To show that you and I, my dear Dark Choco, are not so dissimilar. What separates the good from the bad, hm?"
"Don't call me 'dear'," was all he could say in response. He didn't want to admit it, but they did have similar stories. Never fitting in with the crowd. But unlike her, he would not let the darkness consume him. "Are we done here?" he asked, ready to be on his way again.
Dark Choco closed the book in front of her. "I suppose we are." She used her magic to put the book back onto the shelf. "You best get a move on, then. Wouldn't want the others to get wrapped up in your business," she said.
Dark Choco stood up, turning towards the door. "Goodbye now then, Dark Choco. Safe travels," Dark Enchantress said, waving to him with her fingers.
He couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic or not.
