Disclaimer: I don't own anything that you recognise
It was your own fault
You'd freely admit that without any hesitation as you backed up a few steps until you felt the edge of the ground beneath your heels. It had been your idea to go to the Shrouded Ruins in the middle of the afternoon after abo. You had Wyrdeer to take you there at an amazing speed and run past pokemon before they could attack you and you also had your pokemon to keep you safe. You would be fine or so you had thought
Adaman had an important meeting with Irida and some others about the future of the Diamond and Pearl clans in these incredibly strange and fast-changing times, so he couldn't come with you like he usually did. He had given you a tight hug and had asked you to be careful in the wilderness of the Crimson Mirelands. You had simply smiled and had promised, but now you wished you had kept that promise
"Be back at the camp before it gets dark, alright? I will not hesitate to send out a search party if you're not home by then." He had said, making you fondly roll your eyes at how incredibly protective he always over you. Yes, you had been scared of ghost pokemon since you were just a small child and other pokemon could be dangerous, but you were actually learning to live with them, instead of constantly fearing what they could do. You had been certain you'd be fine.. Giving him one last kiss, you had left your tent and had called wyrdeer, who brought you north to your destination
Adaman had caught you an adorable Kirlia at the Ruins as a wedding anniversary present about two years ago now and you often brought her back there, even now that she had finally evolved into a graceful and beautiful gardevoir, so she could see her friends and catch up. This time seemed to be no different than other times as the tiny ralts and kirlia first ran away from you in fear, before recognising you as a friend
After that, they always came closer to you as you let out your gardevoir to let her play and talk to them, leaning against an odd statue while watching them. That's when the mistake came in as with the summer warmth and the peaceful sight of your pokemon playing with her kin, you actually fell asleep right there against the odd statue. You had been feeling rather tired for a while now, but you hadn't thought you would fall asleep.
But you did actually fall asleep and was woken up by gardevoir as the very last rays of sunlight disappeared. "Did I fall asleep?" You asked as you rubbed your eyes, despite the answer being obvious and gardevoir nodded. "Did your friends go home?" You asked as you stood up and loved at the darkening surroundings in slight worry as you had promised to be back before dark. "Gar!" Your pokemon nodded again. "Alright, let's go home before Adaman gets worried." You muttered as you got the flute and went to play it when you suddenly heard a sound right behind you
"Toooooommmmbbbbb." A haunting voice sounded through the air and you carefully looked at gardevoir without turning around to see where it came from, fear filling you as you simply knew that you were not alone anymore. "There's something right behind me isn't there?" You asked in a small voice and gardevoir slowly nodded. You gulped as you turned around, trying to keep your heartbeat under control
You then came face-to-face with a creepy pokemon you had never seen before. It was like a swirling vortex of something had gotten a face and it was not a nice face as it grinned at you. You took a step to the left, but it blocked your way and doing the same thing when you went the other side, stopping you from getting away and you couldn't wait for braviary to arrive. It started to hop closer to you with every step
You backed up with gardevoir putting you behind her, resulting in your current situation. You backed up until your heels hovered over the edge of the ravine, the ground being several metres beneath you Looking back at the scary pokemon as it slowly got even closer, you took a deep breath as you took a step forwards to stand beside gardevoir like the team you always were. You were not a helpless little girl anymore. You had your own pokemon more and you suddenly remembered that it actually had the type advantage over whatever pokemon you were facing right now.
"It's not going to let us go." You muttered."Gar." Gardevoir growled as she glared at the opposing pokemon, daring it to come even closer to you. Gardevoir had also become increasingly protective over you, rarely letting you out of her sight and sometimes even refusing to let you recall her into her pokeball. "Let's get it." You whispered and your pokemon nodded as it took a step forwards to get ready to battle.
The opposing pokemon stopped moving for just a small minute as if utterly surprised that you actually went to fight it instead of running away as far as you could. You immediately took advantage of its surprise. "Gardevoir, use draining kiss!" You ordered and your pokemon immediately listened. The opposing pokemon cried out as the move was super effective against it. It grunted, before getting hit by a following moonblast. It sent a dark pulse attack, but you both managed to dodge it. Seeing it getting weaker, you took a deep breath and threw an ultra ball at it.
Fireworks went off a few seconds later as you successfully caught the pokemon and you sighed in relief. "I got it, gardevoir!" You cheered. "Gar! Gardevoir!" Your pokemon cheered with you, before you heard voices. You smiled as you realised Adaman's voice calling you, sounding frantic and worried. "I'm here, my darling!" You called back and soon, umbreon run towards you, your very relieved husband right behind it
"Oh, thank Almighty Dialga. I was so worried." He breathed in utter relief at seeing you were completely alright and you smiled at him as he pulled you into a bone-crushing hug and kissed your hair. Despite having won your very first battle against a ghost pokemon, you sagged in relief at feeling his arms around you and buried your face into his shoulder. The other members sighed in relief as well at seeing you were okay
"I'm sorry. I fell asleep." You muttered into his shoulder, your voice muffled in his thick clothing and he chuckled as he pulled back. He was just happy that you were okay. "Guess what?" You asked with an excited grin as you cupped his cheek and he raised an eyebrow. You showed him the ball with the pokemon inside. "I caught my very first ghost pokemon!" You then stated with a small squeal and he stared at it in utter shock before pulling you into another hug and spinning you around. "I'm so proud of you." He laughed and you giggled as you held onto his neck
Putting you down again once he was done spinning you, he smiled at you. "Come on then. I want to see it." He said in an ecstatic tone. You let out the pokemon and he stared at it, before looking at you again. "Only you would catch a rare spiritomb as your first ghost pokemon." He chuckled as he kissed you and you smiled as you kissed him back. You were h good to finally know what pokemon you had caught.
Recalling your pokemon once you had broken apart as it was really time to go home again, you went back to the camp, Adaman keeping his arm around you the whole time and keeping you safe from anything that might attack you. Some ghost pokemon tried to bother you but the others kept them away from you as you rested your head against your husband's shoulder, getting tired again now that the adrenaline was going away.
Adaman simply lifted you up in his arms after seeing you almost stumble over a rock and carried you for the rest of the way, easily able to carry your weight after often climbing the hills and mountains of the Mirelands, no matter how much it worried you when he did it. You simply sagged in his grip and held onto him, letting him do what he wanted as you knew he had been very concerned about you this time. Before you knew it, you were back at the camp and he finally put you down again. Thanking everyone for helping him search, he gently led you inside for the night
You chuckled as he checked you over now that he could see you better. "I'm fine, my darling. Gardevoir protected me." You promised and he let out another sigh of relief as he hugged you tightly. You simply hugged him back, before pulling back, Before you went to bed, you let out gardevoir to ask her something. "Gardevoir, why are you so protective over me the last few weeks? What are you trying to tell me?" You asked.
Adaman sat next to you and gardevoir put a hand on your stomach, giving you a look. You looked down, before looking back up at her in shock and looking at Adaman, who understood the meaning as well, a smile growing on his face. "Oh, my darling." He whispered, before kissing you once again. You immediately kissed him back, feeling happier than ever. You had overcome your fear and you two were going to be parents
This day had seemed to go dark, but turned out to be the brightest one yet
