Chapter Text

"I think this is a bad idea.”

I look towards the voice speaking to me.

“Rebecca, we talked about this. Nothing bad is going to happen. They’re made for children, human children.”

The red head looked at me with suspicion, though I was barely able to see her eyes under her larger curly hair and hat.

“Nix, I know you won’t be harmed, that’s not what I’m worried about.” She gave with a sigh and a shake with her head. “What I am worried about it your identity. You barely put anything into your disguise! I mean, your horns are literally showing!”

“Hey, be quiet.” I whisper quickly at her. After a pause, I say “and on this ‘costume,’ my horns are attached to a ribbon, so it looks like a headband. I have an explanation for everything that a human can ask about my appearance.”

The questioning look came back on Rebecca’s face as lifted an eyebrow.

“Ears?” she said.

“Surgery.” I quickly answered. You don’t hide your ears.

“Eyes?”

“Contracts.”

“Choker?”

“…” I froze.

Rebecca gave a small sigh of disappointment. She shook her head for a moment, being quiet in her thoughts.

“I’ll let that one slide, just say he’s a normal choker.” She said looking at my neck. I could feel it tighten up as she gave my choker a glare. He was probably scared for her as well. Her eyes looked up towards me to say, “That means you can’t mess or talk with echo as much.”

I gave a small nod. Looking ahead, I could hear the daycare music. I reach into my bag, moving around all the extra things I brought that I probably didn’t need to get my earbuds. I place them in my pocket, alongside my phone. Looking at the large doors getting closer, I gave a sigh.

“you’ll fit in, don’t worry.” Rebecca gave with a joking tone. “You and your 4-foot friends!”

“Hey! I’m at least 5 feet!” I said with a slight laugh.

She gave a small laugh, before giving a me a quick hug. “Be safe, ok? Me and Cal will be working, so come to us if anything happens.”

“I’ll be fine!” I say pushing off from her. “But… could you come in, just… to introduce me to the animatronic?”

With a chuckle and a smile, Rebecca ruffled my black hair before opening the daycare doors. “Alright, come on.”

--------------------------------

Opening the daycare doors, I was bombarded by a sounds and colors that made me freeze in shock. Children screaming over the already loud music, bright lights shining over the bright play structures, and many children running everywhere.

As I was being pulled inside, my eyes quickly turned to the large animatronic. The sun-like smiling face made me unnerved, but the thing that made me stop in my tracks was its size. It was practically double my height. I was already scared of things half my size, like large dogs. How was I supposed to deal with this, let alone work with it?!

Its head turned to us as it hears the doors close behind us. I quickly turn to the side, making sure Rebecca hadn’t left me alone. I was relieved when I could see her hot pink hair, but that was short lived when I saw out of the corner of my eye the large animatronic.

“HELLO!” Its voice boomed, causing me to jump a bit. “It’s nice to see you officer Rebecca. Oh! And who is this?”

It leaned down, looking at me. I could feel my heart beat out of my chest, I felt like I could faint. Though I couldn’t see it, I could feel the eye on my choker glare at the animatronic. I pulled my hoodie sleeves over my hands, wanting to hide.

“Hello Sundrop. This is Olive, she’s gonna be working with you.” She looked at me, noticing me pulling my sweater with my hands, she quickly wrapped me in a side hug. “Please be patient with her, she’s a bit shy.” I couldn’t see it, but she gave a wink as she spoke.

“OH! Well, it’s nice to meet you.” The sun spoke, turning towards me and giving me a hand to shake.

I turned to look at the hand, trying to keep my eyes from looking at its face. I hesitantly shook its hand, barely making any contact and with the least about of effort someone could put in a handshake.

Its hands were much bigger than mine. As I touched it, I could feel something around my neck squirm. I quickly withdrew.

I must calm down or else echo is going to start a riot.

Wanting to be polite, I tried to say 'it was nice to meet you too’, but it just came out as a small squeak. So, I just nodded.

“Well, I’m glad you two got acquainted, but I have to go.” Rebecca said, breaking the silence. She quickly walked out the door, but not before saying “Caleb is going to come by to pick you up once your shift is over. See you at home, bye!”

And like that, I was alone. Left with an animatronic and a bunch of kids.

This is going to be madness.
