Chapter Text

“Was he your friend?”

Dean looked down at Jesse and then to the action figure version of Castiel on the mantle he just set down.

“Him?” Dean pointed at Castiel.

Jesse nodded.

“No,” Dean lied through his teeth, trying his best to shield his ingenuity.

“I did that,” Jesse tried making sense of the recent events, most notably turning a random man into a toy. “But how did I do that?”

“You’re a superhero.”

Another lie.

Jesse turned to Dean with a look of awe and excitement shining in his eyes, “I am?”

“Yeah. Yeah, I mean, who else could turn someone into a toy? You’re Superman - minus the cape and the go-go boots. See, my- my partner and I, we work for a secret government agency. It’s our job to find kids with special powers. In fact, we’re here to take you to a hidden base in South Dakota, where you’ll be trained to fight evil.”

“Like the X-Men?”

“Exactly like the X-Men,” Dean chuckled. “In fact, the, uh, guy we're taking you to—he's even in a wheelchair.”

Jesse looked up at Dean, and then to the door. The knob was softly rattling, as if someone was trying to pick the lock.

“You'll be a hero. You'll save lives. You'll get the girl. Sounds like fun, right?”

Jesse teleported the figure of Castiel next to the door.

Before Dean and Sam could register what was happening, Castiel was reanimated and stabbed the woman who burst through the door. The blonde screamed in pain as the angel blade impaled her shoulder and her eyes went black.

“Apparently, you’ll save our lives, too,” Dean muttered. Dean ran over to Cas as Sam picked Jesse up.

“Okay, Jesse, let’s get out of here!” exasperated Sam as he frantically ran out of the house and to the Impala. The younger Winchester placed Jesse in the back of the Impala and then sat down in the passenger’s seat.

“Who was that?” Jesse asked with an anxious expression.

Sam sighed as an apprehensive look came over his face. He turned to the kid in the backseat. “It was a demon, Jesse.”

“A demon?”

“Yeah, it may sound crazy, but they exist.”

“…Is that why I can do what I can do?”

Sam frowned. The kid was much smarter than he let on. “Yes, yes, Jesse. Your biological mother was possessed by a demon when you were born. And now she’s been possessed again.”

“My parents aren’t my mom and dad?”

Sam sadly shook his head. Jesse bowed his head with a sorrowful look on his face.

“…Were you lying? About taking me to a safe place? The government agency?...Me being a hero?”

Sam frowned as Jesse trailed off.

“Dean may have told a few small fibs about the whole government thing, but we’re going to take you to our friend Bobby’s house. He’ll be happy to house and train you. That’s the safe place he was talking about.”

“But, I’m half-demon, right? Doesn’t that make me evil?”

“Jesse, just because you’re half-demon doesn’t mean you have to lose your humanity. You’re half-human, too.”

“Can a human turn people into action figures?”

“No, but a human can learn from their mistakes and train themselves so next time no angels get turned into GI Joe.”

“He’s an angel?”

“Yes, that was our friend, Castiel.”

“If angels are real, does that mean God exists?”

“Um…probably? We’re not sure yet," Sam awkwardly smiled.

Before Jesse could ask any more questions, Dean opened the driver’s door and plopped into the front seat.

“Cas found a container of salt in the kitchen. Suffocated that demon out of her.”

“What if the demon comes back?”

“No problem. Remember how Cas carved that Enochian whatever into our ribs? Try an anti-possession tattoo engraved onto your skull.”

“So, she’s safe?”

“Should be for now. Cas took her to Bobby’s place.”

“And what about Jesse’s parents upstairs?”

“We can talk to them in the morning. Right now, we need to get him out of here,” Dean gestured to Jesse, “before more demons come.”

The Winchester brothers, with Jesse in tow, drove overnight from Alliance to Sioux Falls without interruption. Sam didn’t sleep, expecting to have to gank at least one demon that would show up in front of the Impala. Dean didn’t sleep either because he drove the entire trip. Jesse was fast asleep within the first half hour.

Dean pulled into the scrap yard on Bobby’s property, parking the Impala and stumbling out of the car. Sam sighed as he opened the back door of the Impala, unbuckling Jesse and lifting him into his arms. The two brothers walked to Bobby’s front door in silence before Dean knocked softly on the door. Bobby took a bit to answer the door, but let the Winchesters and Jesse in as soon as the door opened. Sam gently set Jesse down onto Bobby’s couch.

“So, that’s The Antichrist?” Bobby crossed his arms.

“Yeah, believe it or not,” Dean scoffed at the situation. “One of Lucifer’s ‘most powerful weapons’ and now he’s here.”

“You said that demons and angels can’t track him?”

“That’s what Cas said, and it would seem to be true ‘cause Jesse wasn’t on his radar.”

“Good thing. I am not wanting to deal with angels anytime soon. Or demons.”

“Yeah, me too. Is the panic room still in shape?”

“It is, but don’t get your hopes up.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean the boy is half-demon. It’s possible that he might not even be able to enter the room.”

“Well then, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”

Dean retired to the guest room Bobby set up from him and Sam. Sam soon followed.

“Bobby said he can watch over Jesse, Cas seems to have disappeared, and Jesse’s mother is fast asleep.”

“Great, that means I can get some shut eye without having to worry about having to gank any demons.”

“That also means first thing tomorrow morning we drive back to Alliance and talk to Jesse’s parents about the situation and see what they want to do about it.”

“Alright, awesome plan, now shut up. I want to sleep.”

“Jerk.”

“Bitch.”
