“Please don’t go!” you begged, eyes tearing up as you tightened your grip on Loki’s hand in a desperate attempt to keep him there, with you. You didn’t know why, but something was telling you not to let Loki go on this mission. That something was going to go horribly wrong.
Maybe you were just nervous about your own mission, but you had been taught to listen to your gut and you were rarely wrong.
The god in question stared down at you, a feeling in his chest he could not label, he knew very well what it took to retrieve the soul stone and he was set it his decision.
At that moment, however, as he stared down at the midgardian girl he had grown to love more he had ever thought himself capable, Loki wanted nothing more than to agree to stay. To run away with you, across the galaxy if that’s what it took… but he had changed. You had changed him.
Loki Laufeyson was no longer the selfish man everyone had known him to be.
“I am sorry, my love.” Loki said, his hand coming up to caress the face of the woman who had caused the change. Unable to hold it any longer, you gave a small sob and Loki’s hand shook, his resolve wavering.
“Brother?” Thor called over to him from the entrance to the ship that would take them to Vormir. At the same time, Loki felt arms wrap around his waist, and you buried your head in his chest.
The god savored the feeling and took that moment to revel in your warmth, his own hands moving to pull you even tighter into him. “Everything is going to be alright.” He whispered into your hair, pressing a kiss to your head.
Loki meant that. You would be safe. That’s all that truly mattered to him.
Reluctantly, Loki pulled himself from the tight embrace, once again bringing his hands up to cup your face “I love you.” He said, his blue eyes mapping your face and taking in every detail he had relished in finding over your time together. Each crinkle of your eye and scrunch of your nose he had committed to memory.
Smiles that only he had been able to coax out of you, to be seen by his eyes only; signs of your love to him. The things that had made him determined to retrieve the infinity stones and rid the world of Thanos. For you.
He was rewarded with a small, quirk of your lips, all you could muster through your worry in this moment. Loki didn’t care how small the smile was, only that it was aimed at him.
He bent down and your lips met in a gentle, yet passion filled kiss. Loki’s had moving into your hair so as to prolong the moment for as long as he could. Eventually, Loki pulled away and brought one last lingering hand to your face and wiped away the tears that remained.
“Loki…” you said, breaking off your own sentence before gifting him one last crooked smile “Don’t take too long?” it came off as a question.
“I can hardly bare to be parted from you, darling.” He smiled back, willing it to reach his eyes.
Another impatient cough came from the entrance to the ship.
“Everything will be fine, my love. Please trust me in that.” Loki said, ignoring his brother. “I will be back before you know it.”
And so, the God of Lies told his last.
With that, Loki took one more second to scan your face before turning and climbing onto the ship.
“Do not worry, my lady.” Thor said to you as he too prepared to board “I will have him back to you safely in no time, you have my word.”
With a hand to his heart, the God of Thunder gave you a smile and followed his brother onto the ship.
You stood there as the ship took off into the sky, a feeling of dread in your stomach and continued to watch as it grew smaller and smaller.
"Are you ready to go?” A voice asked from behind, Nat.
The spy looked exited at the prospect of travelling back in time. You had to admit, you were too.
“I’m ready.” You nodded, pushing down your feeling of nervousness, telling yourself that everything
would go to plan.
Nat grinned “Let’s hope you’ll be able to convince Loki to hand over the tesseract.”
