“Thank you, Uncle Shen. They smell great.” Kai’sa can’t help to smell her paperbag filled with dumplings. “Ah, always the best for my favorite customer. Oh, I’ve added some chicken feet too as an extra.” The shopkeeper smiled as big as Kai’sa’s. “Oh thank you, I’m definitely going to share this. Byeee.” “Be careful and see you again, yes.”
Kai’sa only walked a hundred meters before hearing a ruckus behind her. She turns around and sees her favorite dumpling maker being threatened by two guys with a knife. She runs back to the stall and punched the guy with her crystallized hands; her left hook dislocated his jaw, making him drop his knife onto his feet. As the other guy pulled out his gun, she choked him and vented out her anger Batman style; punching him so hard, broking 2/3 of his ribs.
“Who’s next ?” She asked, fearing approaching thugs. As the scene clears out, she sees her bloody hands and snaps back to normal. “Kai’sa ?” ; Uncle Shen is still in shock after the mugging but still can’t understand what she just did.
“Uncle Shen, I’m sorry, I didn’t know what happened. I’ll help you clean up.” Kai’sa’s hand is trembling hard but still tries to mop the blood using a newspaper found lying around. “Don’t. Please just leave.” “But Uncle Shen, I’m resp-“ “Please, i don’t want you to get caught.”
Kai understood what he meant. She washed her hands and left the area, walking past her dumplings she dropped earlier. All she could think of was what she just felt. A jolt of power darker than her own. And its effect on her emotions and judgement.
“Kai, are you awake ?” A soft voice asks from Kai’sa’s bedside. She opened her eyes to see the clock at 9 am, 3 hours later than she usually woke up; it was all a dream, she thought. “Ahri, I’m really sorry I overslept. I’m going to make breakfast right now.” Kai’sa jolted up from bed and instantly went to the kitchen with Ahri following behind. “Don’t bother. Evelynn is in a coma”.
Kai’sa turned around and saw Ahri’s glassy eyes. “What ? What happened ?” Her instincts kicked in and instantly hugged Ahri. “Sera called, she said their car was attacked and she was ejected by Evelynn. By the time she landed, the car was flipped. Kali’s with them right now.”.
“Then why didn’t you wake me up ?.” Kai’sa’s head was filled with anger. Who dares to attack one of her dearest, let alone the immortal Evelynn. “I know you had a rough night sleeping. Please, calm down. Let’s just.. get our things and visit them right now.”
The drive to the hospital was fairly silent, with only the sound of Evelynn’s old solo songs filling the cabin. They drive straight to the basement from the rear gate to avoid the massive crowd of media and fans filling the hospital's main entrance.
Ahri stopped Kai’sa in her tracks before they entered the VIP hospital room. “Kai, please don’t blame Sera.” Kai’sa replied with a smile and entered the room. Akali is sitting upright on the sofa, which is very unlike her, while Sera sits beside Evelynn’s bed, not letting go of her mentor/mommy’s hand.
Kai’sa approached Sera and gave her the biggest hug she could give and let Sera cry on her shoulder. Ahri joins Akali on the sofa. “Akali, have you talked to the doctor ?” “Yeah, she said it’s not permanent but it would take time to recover.” Ahri sighs, like she can’t do anything else. Kai’sa then joins the sofa, trying to think hard with her hand on her forehead.
“It doesn’t make sense, all of Evelynn’s cars are armor plated and even though it's heavy, she upgraded the engine. Everyone knows that.” Akali looked at Kai’sa in a confused manner. “Kai ? You okay ?” “Huh ? Is there something wrong ?” “Usually I’m the vengeful and you’re the calm one in this kind of situation. It’s not a freaky Friday, right ?” Kai’sa doesn’t even know how to respond to that.
Ahri stands up and turns on the TV. She switches through the channels but all show the same thing, Eve’s crash; some say it’s an alien attack, a terrorist attack, or even purely blame Sera. She couldn’t stand it; she pats Sera on the head and kisses Evelynn. “I’m going to make a conference downstairs. Kali, would you like to come ?” “Yeah”, Akali stood up and grabbed her jacket by the door, leaving the room with Ahri.
Kai’sa scrolled several social media to find comments supporting Eve, condemning Eve or even saying that all of it is just a hoax. She softly throws her phone to the other side of the couch before hearing Sera calling her name. “Yes Sera dear, what is it ?” “Your energy blast is blue, right ?” Kai’sa is shocked to hear that; she might get the first clue of the culprit. “Yes, its blue with pink traces. Why did you ask ?”
Before Sera could answer, the TV newscaster mentioned that Ahri would make a statement. She could just go downstairs but Kai’sa rather stay with Eve and Sera should anything happen. And there she was, Ahri stood on an impromptu podium the hospital found in the basement with Akali, the police chief, and the doctor who treated Eve.
“Good afternoon everyone, I’m Ahri. I’m sure you have heard about the foul incident that happened earlier today. As the manager and also a member of the K/DA family, we would like to say thank you for your support during this trying times. Seraphine is fine and Evelynn is currently making progress thanks to the help of Dr. Harleen Calamy.” Ahri looked at the doctor beside her and said thanks, which was replied with a nod. She then switched places with Akali so she could give her piece.
“We didn’t know what caused this incident and rest the case to the police. We, K/DA family, request for privacy during these times. Therefore, no comments will be made for any questions. Thank you.” As Akali stepped off the podium, Kai’sa heard a familiar noise. The noise of her energy blast. She rushed to the window and there it was. A dark purple energy blast is on course to the hospital entrance where Ahri and Akali are at.
Kai’sa’s hand instantly crystallized again and she would’ve jumped out of the window if Sera hadn’t got her attention. “What is it Sera ?” “Evelynn.” Sera said in a teary voice. “Evelynn’s finger moved.” “Really ? Thank god.” Kai’sa then remembered the energy blast. Fortunately, Ahri successfully encases it using her crystal ball, so the blast becomes safe enough.
Ahri and Akali were furious when they returned to the room. “I swear it isn’t one of mine. I store all of it in the same place you store your weapons.” Ahri looks disappointed while Akali is still pouting. “I’m sorry to break this argument but I just wanted to say Evelynn’s fine. I guess she’ll recover in less than a week. Faster than expected.” “Thank you Dr. Calamy.” “Please Akali, call me Harley like you used to. Oh, and Kai’sa ?” Kai’sa seemed confused as to why Harley called her. “Yes doctor ?”
“You could call me if you need it.” Dr. Calamy said before she left the room. Kai’sa followed her out and caught her in the hallway. “Why did you think I needed you?” Harley stopped in the middle of the hallway. “Darling, I’m not only a neurosurgeon but also a psychiatrist. I can see your mind isn’t all that straight.” Kai’sa didn’t understand what the doctor said. “Here, try these chewy candy, they will help you clear your head. Don’t worry, I used them too.” Harley then left Kai’sa to wonder a bit.
Akali, Sera and Kai’sa returned home while Ahri took this turn to watch over Evelynn. After showering, Kai’sa felt something strange in her face. The return of her void marks. Seeing it in the mirror confirms that. As she gets a closer look, the reflection switches to the original runeterra Kai’sa and says boo. She jumped and tripped into the bathtub. She ate the candy that Dr. Calamy gave. Akali rushed to the bathroom to ask if Kai’sa was fine. “I’m fine, Akali. Just slipped.” She could feel the marks had gone away.
After dinner, Kai’sa went to the weapons vault in the basement and was shocked to see that it was opened. Sera’s platform, Akali’s scythe, Eve’s lashes and Kai’sa’s pods are all there. But the Pop/Stars era pods have some dirt on them. She sees some strange markings and a purple glow around the room, so she ate another candy. As she touched the pods, she blacked out.
She opens her eyes and ends up in a void space. “Where- Where am I ?” Kai’sa then sees a light in the distance. As she tried to float towards the light, a few purple void spiders chased after her. A female figure then appeared in front of the light source. “Ah, Kai’sa. The hunter of the void.” Kai’sa then stops floating. “Where am I ? Who are you ?” The mysterious figure then opens her mask to reveal Runeterra Kai’sa but with black pupils instead of white.
“Ah, so you never went into the Void, yet your belief in humans is very high.” “What are you talking about ?” As Evil Kai’sa started to walk effortlessly through the void space, she asked “Do you believe in human kindness ?” “I’ve been around the world since my childhood, felt alone but eventually i found my way and my family so yeah, i believe in humanity.” Evil Kai’sa then laughs maniacally.
“Well, human belief is what made me stranded here. And as they found each other, they left me here alone. For a decade, I had no one but these great fellows accompanying me. They abandoned me, and I’m going to make them pay.” The Void creatures started to crawl around both Kai’sa’s. “I have defeated many Kai’sa’s before. Crushed their human society, making them at their lowest before crushing them. I shall do the same to you, starting by killing you call Dearest.”
Kai’sa struggled to get free of the creature's grip. Evil Kai’sa stabs her counterpart in the stomach. “Your fighting those thugs was the moment when i could connect and control your pods from here. And now, i’m going to use them to attack your friends.” Evil Kai’sa grabbed her counterpart’s chin and lift it. “Now you might think I’m stupid that I just gave away my plans by monologuing, but as other Kai’sa’s have found out, they’re not strong enough to fight me. So do you. I’ll see you when this is all over.” Evil Kai’sa then removes the knife from her counterpart as the latter blacked out again.
Kai’sa wakes up and sees that she is back in the basement lying on the floor. There was no stab wound in her stomach. As she sits up and felt relief, she saw that all of her pods (P/S, A/O, and both Prestige versions) had gone. Determined to beat Evil Kai’sa, she grabs each weapon from the vault (Sera’s A/O platform, Eve’s Baddest lashes and Akali’s P/S scythe).
As she prepares, she can hear Akali’s and Sera’s frantic screaming from above as well as the sound of her pods. She rushed above and helped attack her P/S and Prestige P/S pods in the garden. Believing the candy weakens Evil Kai’sa’s control, she eats another one and strikes the pods with Eve’s lashes. Kai’sa then looked at Akali protecting Sera under the dining table. “Get your weapons below. I’m trying to control them.”
As the pods struggle with the lashes, Akali strikes at them by dual welding her True Damage and A/O scythe while jumping from Sera and her platform. The pods were rebooted and Kai’sa was able to take control of them. “What the hell was that, Kai ?” Akali frantically screamed at Kai’sa while Sera stood beside them.
“Calm down, Kali. An evil me from another dimension is trying to break my belief in humanity by killing you girls first. We have to hurry to the hospital.” “Huh, glad you are returning to your calm self, Kai.” Akali and Kai’sa hugged it out and Sera then joined in. “Don’t worry, Kai. We’ll get through this.” Sera just smiles and nods. Kai’sa wiped a tear from her face before they got in the car and went to the hospital.
They arrive at the hospital just in time as they can see Ahri shooting at the pods. Kai’sa and Sera fly above the ground while Akali goes inside and uses the lift. They did the same as before by shutting the pods down and Kai’sa recontrolling them. “Kai’sa, you did all this ?” Ahri speaks with a stern tone. “No, no it’s-“ Kai’sa tried to deny it before a bright purple glow appeared behind them.
“I’m the one who did all of that, Ahri.” Evil Kai’sa emerges from a void portal and flies level with her counterpart and Sera. Ahri was confused so Akali tried to explain it to her inside. “I know how to beat you.” Kai’sa chewed another candy, thinking it would remove Evil Kai’sa. “What ? You think by chewing candy you could defeat me.” Evil Kai’sa teased her counterpart.
“Then, this will.” All 4 pairs of pods appear on Kai’sa’s shoulder and start to blast Evil Kai’sa. They have a great battle in the sky and it made a great light show. While battling, she realized that Eve’s lashes and Akali’s scythe did more damage than her Pods. She finally knows that it’s not the candy but her belief in her friends and humanity that did more damage. Kai’sa kept striking her evil counterpart countless times without giving her any time for rest.
When Evil Kai’sa opens a void portal to escape, Kai’sa’s lashes grab the former and stabs her in the stomach. The lashes managed to penetrate Evil Kai’sa’s void armor. “That’s for hurting my family.” Evil Kai’sa is then blasted by an energy blast from the 4 pairs of pods into the void portal as it closes. “That’s for hurting me.”
Evelynn finally wakes up from her coma and sees Kai’sa asleep beside her and on her thigh. She stroked Kai’sa’s hair softly. “Evelynn, you’re awake.” Kai’sa screamed and hugged Evelynn while also pressing the nurse's button. “Is Sera safe ?” “She is. Eve, you were in a coma for 5 days.”
Evelynn tried to straighten her bed so she could sit more upright but it hurt her stomach. Kai’sa called the other K/DA members to come. “Evelynn, I’m really sorry. The attacks 5 days ago were because of me. I let my emotions control me and an evil version of myself tries to kill us.”
“It’s okay, Kai. Emotions make mistakes, and we grow from that.” Kai’sa smiled and couldn’t help but to kiss Evelynn. “Why did your story sound like my dream ?” They both laughed as the others arrived. Kai’sa is glad that no matter what mistake she made, her family is always at her back.
