Cotton Candy (Don’t You Love It?)

Summary:

Deku never was considered Katsuki’s friend. And it wasn’t like Katsuki gave a shit. So why did Deku and Cloudass’s friendship bother him so much?

Or;

After Oboro has been revived by Eri, he was instructed to join class 1A’s hero course while shadowing Midoriya. They become close. A certain blonde becomes jealous.

Notes:

Am I ever gonna stop writing Bakugou faces consequences? No <3
Am I sorry for making him worse than the mange/anime? No <3
Please enjoy loves <3
(Side note and to clear up any confusion: the war arc didn’t happen, it was only a raid between heroes and no heroes-in-training were allowed to join. Though Izu’s vigilante arc stayed but Bakugou wasn’t the one who convinced him to come back (that will be revealed later) so he didn’t apologize.)

Chapter 1

Chapter Text

The morning was starting to be like any other morning. Well, as normal as it was after waiting for the heroes to capture most of the League. Midoriya was back after Todoroki somehow managed to convince him to. The others were worried about some teachers who had been assisted in the raid, but their worries were soon soothed when Aizawa came in a few days ago. Now they were waiting on him to come to teach again.

Soft conversations rose from some students, while others stayed silent. A group or two were perched near a friend. Midoriya was speaking softly to the new transfer, Shinsou, about a new underground hero who was found patrolling around the greenette’s area. Both looked too invested in Midoriya’s notes to notice a certain blonde getting angrier at the voices behind him.

Though before he could blow up, Aizawa walked in with a person following him from behind. He was tall, as tall as Iida, and had blue hair that looked like it was floating. He had a nose plaster on his nose and a big albeit nervous smile. He wore their hero course with red colored shoes and yellow socks that some students thought it represented something, even if that looked atrocious.

(Mina lit up in thinking of giving him a makeover)

Then, to everyone’s confusion, Aizawa said, “Everyone, we have a new student joining us. His situation is delicate so he had to join our year. I’m having him shadow Midoriya for the moment. Midoriya raise your hand, please.” he gestured to the confused green haired student who put his hand up after that statement. “I want no questions asked about his situation unless he says something. Alright,” he turned to the new student, “Introduce yourself and then we’ll begin our lesson.”

“Um right. Hey everyone.” he waved, “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Oboro Shirakumo and I guess I’ll be joining your class.” he chuckled.

Most of the class exchanged greetings with him, some enthusiastically (like Mina, Hagakure, Kaminari, Uraraka and Kirishima) some less so and more politely (like Momo, Izuku, Todoroki and Shinsou) and others were either shy (like Kouda and Shoji) or huffing away in anger (like Bakugou).

After his introduction, Yaoyorozu made a chair and stuck it next to Midoriya. Their sensei informed them that he’ll get a desk later that day for tomorrow, but right now the chair will suffice.

Shirakumo made his way to the greenette and sat down. While Aizawa was starting their lesson on vigilante laws (some people glanced at Midoriya not so subtly), the taller of the two leaned in and whispered while grinning, “Hey man. Thanks for doing this.”

Midoriya sent him a soft smile whispering in return. “It’s okay. Welcome to class 1A. also, you can just call me Izuku.”

“Well Izuku, you can just call me Oboro then.”

Both teens turned to look at Aizawa to catch what he was saying. No one heard about their conversation (unless you’re Jirou but she didn’t care).

No one except a certain blonde in front of them.

---…---…---…---

Izuku wasn’t feeling well. He left UA a mess, and came back a mess. He was still a mess, like Kacchan kept reminding him. His smiles reduced to small ones. His mumbles ceased slightly, only catching himself when he notices. His notebooks are all coded now, with the help from Nedzu. He distanced himself from his friends, but they still stuck by him and nurtured him back in time for classes.

Sure, everything looked normal. It was fine. And it wasn’t like things weren’t better now; the league was captured and he heard that there was a new villain rehabilitation center somewhere in Musutafu. All For One died from a battle between him and Izuku (though they covered that up for the time being). they haven’t lost of the heroes who went on the raid and thankfully they got out with minimal injuries.

But he still felt lost. Until Oboro joined his class.

Oboro ignited the spark Izuku thought was out and brought him back to where he was before. And sure, Izuku wasn’t completely back but it was the thought that counts. Therapy helped too. Though he still felt guilty about making UA pay for it, even if they reassured him over and over that it was okay.

His friendship with Oboro was more than appreciated. It had only been two weeks but they had so many things in common, as Izuku came to find out.

They’ve both been lonely for a long time. They’re both touch starved. Shunned for a long time.

But he had friends now who were closer than before, and they were helping Izuku and Oboro so much because they’ve been giving them hugs, head pats, pats on the shoulders, holding their hands. Izuku is so grateful for them.

And recently, Oboro gave him a new nickname; he calls him Zu-chan! Most of his friends call him by nicknames, and to have Oboro call him by one too?

Izuku loves his friends!

---…---…---…---

Katsuki didn’t care. He didn't care that Deku hasn't once greeted him for two weeks. He didn’t care that the teachers stopped putting them together for sparring or studying. He didn’t care that Deku’s been friends with the blue haired asshole for only two weeks and they’re already acting like best friends. He didn’t care. He really didn’t.

What made him most angry though was that every time Katsuki tries to talk to that useless Deku, the blue haired asshole takes him away and the rest of Deku’s stupid friends glare at him while trying to hide him.

Whatever. He didn’t give a shit about them.

The class was sitting in the common room with Dunce Face and Soy Sauce playing something on the TV with a few people watching. From the corner of his eye, he could see blue bitch and Deku talking animatedly with gestures and shit over Deku’s creepy notebook. Katsuki couldn’t care less about what they were talking about.

But then he heard it; “You’re totally right Zu-chan!” and felt his heart break, confusion and rage blossoming inside him. That…that was his nickname for Deku when they were kids, wasn’t it?

Did Deku even realize? Does he remember?

Katsuki looked slightly to the left and froze. Deku was…he was smiling. And laughing. His eyes were sparkling and he looked better than when he came back from his stupid vigilante time.

What the hell?

Did Deku replace him or something? Whatever Katsuki didn’t care. He shouldn’t care. Deku and him haven’t been friends for a long time so why would he?

But the rage and betrayal was still there. How dare Deku look down on him with his new friend?! how dare he flaunt it in front of him, when Katsuki was training to be the number one hero?

Then he heard Cloudass saying “What if we ask sensei to try them tomorrow morning?” and Katsuki lost it.  The fucker wants to skip out on training with an extra who joined their class late? He might have let Deku skip on their usual sparring matches but he couldn't hold it in anymore.

His hands started to pop, making it apparent how angry he was. He growled while standing up and marched over to Deku and picked him up by his collar. “WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING DEKU?!”

---…---…---…---

Izuku was sitting on the couch with Oboro, talking to him about some theories he had for his quirk and costume. The blue haired-student had his arm around him looking over the notebook. Izuku felt happy because someone was interested in his notes and was listening to him.

It wasn’t like his friends didn’t, they just weren’t as curious as he was (though Momo was an exception) so he was excited that Oboro was intensively nodding and adding to some of his theories. The he told Izuku they could ask Aizawa-sensei if they could test out some of the theories tomorrow morning, and Izuku didn’t even get to accept when Kacchan came over, screaming over how Izuku’s been ignoring him for two weeks and how useless of a hero he would be.

Kirishima and Sato both held Kacchan away from him, while Oboro and Ochako put their hands around him to calm him down. But he wasn’t thinking about calming down, no, Izuku was thinking about something else entirely.

In the backround, Kacchan was still shouting, “IGNORING ME FOR WEEKS DEKU! HUH?! YOU THINK YOU’RE SO TOUGH NOW? THINK YOU’RE STRONGER THAN US USELESS NERD?!”

He could hardly hear over the screaming but he knew some of his friends were defending him. He focused on his words, instead.

Ignoring Kacchan? Did Kacchan think they were friends? And Izuku…he couldn’t let that slide. No, he wasn’t going to. The greenette spent years trying to be friends with him, only to be relentlessly bullied and suicide baited by him. He’d spent years being beaten by him. Called useless. Worthless. Being made fun of because his dad left him and his mom. Laughed at every time a classmate put spider lilies on his desk. Ridiculed by his teachers. Told he was looking down at Kacchan when in reality, Izuku couldn’t have been more proud to have him as friend.

Izuku spent years making up excuses for him. He spent years trying to understand if his worth was different than any other human being’s. And that was what he gets? After months full of villain attacks and still being bullied by him? That was what he gets?

“YOU IDIOT!”

Izuku shouted making everyone look at him in shock. But Izuku wasn’t thinking about anyone’s reaction, no, the only thing he was thinking of was destrying this guy’s huge ego because Izuku was done making up excuses for him and his actions. He vaguely saw Aizawa entering to break up whatever fight Bakugou was about to start, and both Oboro and Ochako holding him to not fly at the blonde jerk that was in front of him.

He continued to speak in the silent room, “Is that what you still think? You still think I’m looking down at you, aren’t you?”

“THEN WHY THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN IGNORING ME SHITTY DEKU?!”

“BECAUSE I’M FINALLY LOOKING AFTER MYSELF! Or because I have friends who care about me! I’m focusing on my studies as a hero, and not letting anyone ruin them! I have a little sister who I’m helping raise. I have my mom to look after. My teachers to listen to. Trying hard to fucking live and all you’re thinking about is how I’m ignoring you?” he scoffed. “Did you ever stop to think that ‘huh, maybe the guy I spent years pushing away finally listened?’. Because I sure as hell I’m getting better with you out of my life Katsuki!”

No one said a word. Iida hasn’t even lectured anyone of them for their choice of language but Izuku guessed it was because of shock. Bakugou was pale, and shocked but managed to ask, “Out of your life?”

“Yeah, isn’t that what you wanted Mr.Future Number One Hero? Or is your ego finally deflating that you don’t understand a fucking word I’m saying, because of how hard your head actually is with your anger or you screaming every little insult at me or anyone around you.” he took a deep breath. “But I’m done, Katsuki. I’m done chasing you around, or waiting for you to finally treat me like a human being. If you’re that small of a child and that stupid of a human then go ahead and beat everyone black and blue like you used to do to me.”

“What the fuck?” questioned someone who Izuku could make out to be Jirou, looking at Bakugou with a glare on her face.

“I’m sorry-”

“No you don’t get that anymore. You lost the right to say sorry to me a long time ago. What the hell did you want from me anyway? Screaming like a little kid, having a tantrum over the fact that I’m finally smiling and happy? That I’m safe with the people I love and that you’re not a part of them?”

“I wanted…um I wanted you to-”

“Jump off a roof? Bet you wished I fucking did that when you told me to, didn’t you?” gasps all around the room were heard, and he could faintly hear people crying. But he didn’t care. He was exhausted. So he turned and put his head on the nearest person’s shoulder, which turned out to be Oboro’s, and sank in the hug his friend gave him.
