Work Text:
"Hey Jeon, what's with the whole look? Did you forget it's photo day today?" Taehyung remarks when he sees his young colleague walking out of the elevator.
"Mind your own business, Kim..." Jeongguk grunts, using his free hand to fix his messy hair and fight the little headache spreading on his forehead from having one drink too many yesterday night with his friend Yugyeom.
How the hell this man can hold his liquor so well is still a mystery, Jeongguk thinks.
"You know you're actually making it worse, right?" Taehyung observes his fruitless attempt, thinking that the young one actually looks cute with tousled hair. Actually, he always has them gelled back in a neat manner. So looking at him being all casual, hair-wise, is a first for him.
The young one looks good even with messy hair, Taehyung thinks. But he can't tell him that because Jeon Jeongguk is Kim Taehyung's greatest rival. And he kinda hates his guts. Well, maybe not right now, when the brat looks like a complete baby.
"Fuck!" The young boy curses, frustrated. "When does the photoshoot start?"
Taehyung checks his watch, then rolls his eyes to the pouty face.
"Ten minutes."
Jeongguk sighs, finally giving up fixing his hair in front of the whole office, walking away from Taehyung and towards the bathroom without saying a word.
Taehyung would normally roll his eyes and go back to what he was doing. But there's something on Jeongguk's face that makes him want to help the little brat out.
So instead of joining his colleagues in the meeting room for the photo, he goes back to his desk and grabs the emergency hair gel he keeps for emergencies like this one.
Taehyung has never done anything like this for Jeongguk. Of course, he likes to help everyone around the office but this specific doe-eyed boy doesn’t really deserve it. Taehyung has his reasons. He never does something without justification.
Now, when he finally reaches and opens the bathroom door, Jeongguk is standing in front of the huge mirror. He looks a lot more distressed than he expected with tears threatening to fall on his puffy cheeks.
"Jeongguk..." Taehyung murmurs, shutting the door behind him silently. "Are you okay?"
"I told you to mind your own business!" The young one averts his eyes from Taehyung's reflection, trying to hide his face from his inquisitive feline eyes.
"Once a brat, always a brat, I guess..." Taehyung pouts but instead of going away, he moves to him, squeezing the last of the transparent gel on his fingers. Then, in a wild plot twist of fate, he lets his hands run through his rival’s fluffy black hair, trying to fix it for him.
"What the heck are you—" Jeongguk murmurs with a pout when he notices Taehyung’s somewhat blushed face.
"I'm trying to help you, okay?"
Jeongguk gulps a little. Taehyung's fingers actually feel nice on his head. His fingers are long and they move carefully, trying to fix the messy hair.
"Taehyung—" He then tries to speak, closing his eyes. This sensation is so soothing that the young one wants to keep his eyes closed and just relax.
He’s already been stressed over work and some personal matters, including his mother’s annoying attempts to set him up on a date with her neighbor’s daughter and the constant bickering between her and her new husband.
"Yes?"
"Why are you doing this? You hate my guts, don't you?"
Taehyung can sense the change in his voice. This is probably the calmest conversation the two of them have ever had so far in their one year working together.
"I do," Taehyung murmurs. "But I can't see you like this. I am the one who is supposed to make your life miserable, not your stupid hair, remember?"
"Oh..." Jeongguk's eyes are now fixed on the little boxy smile on Taehyung’s heart-shaped lips. They look nice when they are calm.
Taehyung is so beautiful when he is serene. No. Taehyung is always beautiful no matter what.
When he's finally done, Jeongguk is left speechless, staring at his rival’s tie, trying to say thank you but failing to do so. He didn't expect such treatment from the older one.
"Why do you hate me so much?" He dares to ask instead with glossy eyes.
"Hate you? I don't hate you," Taehyung says, surprising both Jeongguk and himself.
"So you keep messing with my coffee order and my desk out of love ?" The doe-eyed boy murmurs.
"Well," the older one starts, trying to collect his thoughts. "That's your fault. You're so annoying sometimes I just want to squeeze your—"
"That's workplace harassment, you know!" Jeongguk pouts instantly.
"Fuck it!" Taehyung then moves forward, cupping his milky cheeks before he slots their lips together, leaving the young one in shock.
His big hands travel in his hair automatically, messing it up again. The kiss is short but it makes Taehyung's heart beat faster.
When he moves back, Jeongguk is a blushing mess.
"What. The. Fuck. Was. That?" He asks, looking at his rival panting a little.
"I told you I wanted to squeeze your cheeks!"
"Not my neck?" Jeongguk tilts his head in confusion.
"I wanted to kiss, not kill you, you brat!" Taehyung admits. Well, the thought has been in his mind since the first day his eyes met the doe-eyed boy. Jeongguk was always handsome. And when Taehyung first saw him, looking all shy and lost, his heart had done a thing.
"Why?"
"Because I like you?" Taehyung shouts, turning around to spill some water on his face. "But you had to bad-mouth me to our manager the first week here! That was a hit below the belt. I know I made some mistakes but I was nervous. This company was my dream job. I heard you, Jeongguk. And I was devastated because we really seemed to get along well!"
"What? I never bad-mouthed you to Manager Kim Seokjin!" Jeongguk moves a little closer, his hair is a mess again but he doesn't really care about it. "I was telling him about that rookie chef, Kim Tae-hyun! Manager Kim is a fan of Masterchef… For god’s sake! All this time, you thought I had bad-mouthed you to our manager?"
"What—" Taehyung turns around only to be met by Jeongguk's dark eyes. "So you didn't tell him that I had to leave because I have no skills and I’m clumsy as hell?"
"Are you fucking kidding me? You have been employee of the month for 6 fucking months in a row!"
"It seems I was mistaken..." Taehyung tries to look away before the young one's hand cups his cheek and moves closer.
"Big time, you idiot!" Jeongguk murmurs, eyes falling on his heart-shaped petals. "And for the record, I really liked you too! But then you kept acting like an asshole and I thought that you being all nice and shy was just a facade.”
"I’m such an idiot..." Taehyung admits shyly. "I'm sorry."
"I'm not accepting such a lousy apology..." Jeongguk says, confusing his colleague.
"Then wh—"
"Try again tonight at my place. You'll bring the wine. I'll cook. You owe me this one for adding salt to my coffee!"
Taehyung tries to speak but Jeongguk doesn't let him, trapping his lips in a more fierce kiss that makes them both gasp. Then, Jeongguk’s hands slide on Taehyung’s small waist, pushing him against the white sink, forcing him to sit on it while positioning himself between his legs.
The older one thinks he’s going to pass out on the spot. Jeongguk definitely knows how to kiss. Experience or simply a gift? Taehyung doesn’t know. All he wants is to feel his tongue against his some more.
“Guk—” He manages to say when the young one’s lips move to his jaw before they touch the sensitive skin of his neck. Little shivers go down his spine as his eyes lock on the door. What if someone walks in?
“I like this more than arguing with you every single day!” Jeongguk is a red mess. “Fuck! You’re so fucking irresistible, you know?”
"So you like me..." Taehyung says when they finally part, heart fluttering and eyes forming little crescent moons.
“I just made out with you, Taehyung. What more proof do you like?” Jeongguk says with a little pout, looking at Taehyung’s eyes moving lower. He knows. Jeongguk has just gotten a little hard from all this unresolved tension between them, finally being released through a single hungry kiss.
"I'll bring my favorite bottle."
"8 o'clock sharp," Jeongguk stares at him, trying to hide his boner, and Taehyung nods all flustered.
"We need to go back to the meeting room now... The photoshoot..."
"You go first. I'm coming in a sec, okay?" Jeongguk finally says, letting Taehyung walk to the door cheerfully.
"8 o'clock then."
When he's gone, Jeongguk tries to breathe normally. Taehyung is probably the most charming man he has ever met. And he most definitely likes him back, otherwise, he wouldn’t have checked him out so shamelessly. Jeongguk loved the look on his face.
"Fuck... " He then tells himself, looking at his messy hair because a huge smile paints his red-tinted cheeks.
Jeongguk doesn't really care about the photoshoot now. All he thinks about is his little dinner date with Taehyung and how much he wants to pin him against a wall and kiss him hungrily, making up for all the lost time due to a silly misunderstanding.
So, before he goes, he gives his hair a good ruffle and walks out of the bathroom with the brightest smile ever.
That night both of them talked until late, drank all the wine, ate Jeongguk's delicious bossam, and, well, made out on the couch for an hour or so, feeling how each other’s bodies reacted to the other’s touch.
And then, when making out wasn’t enough, they headed inside Jeongguk’s room for more apologies .
Jeongguk still remembers the company photo day. Well, Taehyung doesn't let him forget about it even four years later. His sneaky hyung has put the picture of baby-looking Jeongguk on their fridge to remind him of their first kiss.
"Baby! Can we take it down now? Please?" Jeongguk asks, looking at his messy hair, recalling Kim Seokjin’s and Kim Namjoon’s remarks when they saw him.
"Nope," Taehyung says as he hugs him from behind, enjoying his baby’s warmth.
"It's been four years! Come on! Let’s put the recent one. I actually look hot in it!"
"Nope, again! I'll only replace this photo with our wedding picture."
"The what?" Jeongguk turns around to meet Taehyung's boxy smile and cute eye smiles. Being his lover is a thousand times better than being his rival.
"If we ever get married, I mean."
"Do you want to?" Jeongguk suddenly asks, face turning red as a cherry.
Taehyung cups his cheeks ever so softly before he kisses him gently.
"Who wouldn't like to marry the cutest brat in the office?"
Jeongguk laughs. Marrying Taehyung sounds nice in his mind.
"Let's do it then!” Jeongguk declares before popping the most important question in his life. “Will you marry me, Tae?"
"Of course I will, baby! I love you so much! And you need someone to fix your hair during company photoshoots!"
"Fuck!” Jeongguk is sailing in a sea of happiness. “I love you, too!" He shouts, grabbing him from the waist before he pulls him to the sofa for another hot make-out session that probably led to the best sex in their lives.
The wedding was simple. Elegant. And Jeongguk’s mother cried so much the moment her son had said ‘I do’ to the love of his life.
At the wedding party, they both found themselves slow dancing, bodies pressed together and heads leaning on each other before Taehyung moved his hand through Jeongguk’s soft hair.
“I’m so happy that you had a bad hair day 5 years ago,” he murmured.
“And it was the best worst hair day ever!” Jeongguk giggled before he kissed his new husband ever so softly, murmuring again and again how lucky he was to have met him.
