There is no denying that those they care for have been through a lot, but Luna cannot help but feel that they have finally made a time for peace.
She hops up onto the window ledge, leaving Artemis who is still asleep in their cat bed basket, and peers out onto the quiet streets of Tokyo. Artemis has always been slower to rise.
It’s a calm, foggy morning, the sun’s rays not fully bursting though the low laying clouds.
It’s her favorite sort of morning, one that’s slow and encourages one to take the day at their own pace.
Her ears perk as she hears the timer come on to signal that her tea is brewing. Though Usagi and Mamoru are out of town this weekend, Luna remains grateful that Mamoru has an interest in a modernized home. It means Luna herself can have all the luxuries she’s become accustomed to—whether or not Usagi and Mamoru are home.
And Usagi has set things up so Luna can prepare and drink her own tea with minimal fuss and no thumbs.
As she laps at her tea, she mulls over the recent changes life has brought.
Chibiusa has returned to them and found love with Helios. Luna thinks they will announce their engagement soon.
Though Setsuna has not advertised it, she has found love herself with Saphir. Saphir has begun gardening with Setsuna, encouraging her more and more to leave the doors she guards alone.
Kunzite and Minako have announced their engagement. Luna and Artemis gifted the couple cooking lessons—for Kunzite’s sake.
Ami has Zoisite supporting her through medical school while he works as a jeweler.
Makoto is in culinary school abroad while her partner Nephrite designs the jewelry Zoisite sells.
And Rei has found love with Jadeite and they have opened a cafe at her temple.
It is what Queen Serenity would have wanted, Luna thinks. Everyone has found their own version of happiness.
”Luna?”
She turns to see Artemis groggily looking up at her. “Yes, dear?”
”Good morning.” He yawns widely. “How’re you and the baby?”
Luna smiles. “We’re both fine,” she assures her worrywart of a husband. Their daughter is nowhere close to being born, but that does nothing to quell Artemis’ worries.
Artemis nods, still half-asleep. “You should go back to sleep,” he chides. “It’s too early.”
She laughs but allows him to badger her back to bed. She’s finished her tea, at any rate, and she’s in the mood to indulge his need to snuggle.
As they curl up in the basket, she thinks to herself that she is glad of the changes Usagi has made. In time, Luna thinks, Usagi will prove to be a better queen than even her mother was.
Artemis curls around her, murmuring sleepily as he put a paw over her side.
As she drifts off back to sleep, she swears she feels the embrace and scents the perfume of Queen Serenity, along with the murmured words, “Thank you, Luna…”
