Work Text:

The seven thirteen-year-olds stood in front of her, stoic expressions on their faces. Tsumugi Shirogane stood in front of them, looking over each of their expressions. While mostly stoic and apathetic, she couldn't help but notice the smidge of excitement that One and Seven had, how Two furrowed her brow together out of impatience (tsk tsk), the wide eyes of Six staring up at her (he had yet to hit a growth spurt...Tsumugi should be concerned about that). Without Kirumi here, she had to do it herself. If it were up to her, she'd keep their names numbers, but based on how The Dangan Academy kids had turned out...

With or without Kirumi, The Kuma Academy needed names. Hopefully, if they did stupid stuff like the Other Six, the events couldn't be linked back to the Kuma Academy.

She stood in front of One, cold eyes meeting curious red ones. One was the leader and a gentleman. He had this charming allure to him, and Tsumugi knew just what to name him. "Your name is Gonta. It means authority."

"Gonta..." One repeated. "Like...gentleman?" He seemed to like the idea of being a gentleman maybe a little too much.

Tsumugi nodded. "Yes, One, like a gentleman," she said, before looking over at Two. Two was tough, she didn't know what to name her. On one hand, Two could play melodies and was a bit more of a leader than Gonta. On the other, she was cold, seemed to hate humanity, and was alone frequently when off missions. "Your-"

"I have a name in mind, Mother," Two announced boldly, catching Tsumugi and her siblings off guard. Two had known what her name would be for a few months, and now seemed to be announcement time.

"Very well," Tsumugi said before looking over at Three. Three was, quite frankly, the opposite of Two. Three liked making fun of her teammates, a sharp tongue, and...interesting vocabulary for a teenager. She assumes that Three learned it over the few missions they had. Thanks robbers. "Your name will be Miu. It means Beautiful Feather." Quite an ironic name, considering Three's power.

"Hell yeah!" Three exclaimed excitedly, obviously excited to have a name. That was the only positive reaction she had received so far. "Thanks, Mom- I mean Mother!"

Tsumugi pursed her lips and nodded, moving over to Four. Four was odd. He was tall and skinny, but there were bandages and bruises around his body from training and missions. "Your name will be Korekiyo. It means clean and correct."

"Quite an interesting name, Mother," Four said. "I am thankful for this name. May I call myself Kiyo for short?"

"Your name, your choice," Tsumugi shrugged it off. She went over to Five. Five was tired constantly. She noticed Five wanted freedom and occasionally dozed off during missions, but she cared fiercely for her siblings, and liked making people happy. "Your name will be...Himiko. It means sun child."

"Nyeh...thank you, Mother," Five said, and Tsumugi frowned at the laziness behind Five's reply. Without another word, she went over to Number Six and looked down. He had this childish appearance to him, but an attitude and deep voice to instantly make you realize he's not a toddler and a scowl that would strike fear into you. Likewise, she noticed he was wise, calm, and composed, but a bit depressed. "Your name will be Ryoma. It means dragon."

"Hmph, thank you Mother," Six said simply. His voice always caught her off guard, but she refused to show it. Finally, she went up to Seven. Seven was very cheerful, but her powers included fear inducement. Seven was friendly to all her teammates, but especially seemed close with Five- Himiko. Also, she seemed to believe in an Atua guy. Tsumugi didn't know what to think of that. "Your name will be Angie. It means messenger."

"Nyahahaha!" Seven laughed. "Thank you, Mother! I am sure Atua also approves!"

"Very well," Tsumugi said, before looking at Two in the eyes. "Now, Two, what is it you wanted to be called?"

"Kaede," Two answered simply, and Tsumugi instantly recalled The Other Six. They mentioned a Kaede, but that she was...nobody. Tsumugi paused, deep in thought about this. She didn't want any semblance to the Dangan Academy, but-

"Nyahaha!" Angie laughed. "Atua believes that name is beautiful, Two!"

"Yes, it is," Tsumugi said. "It means maple leaf, but I do think the name suits you quite well."

Two simply bowed with a "Thank you, Mother" before returning to standing still.

"You may all go," Tsumugi said. "You all have training in an hour. Take this free time to adjust to your new names."

As the teenagers left, Tsumugi was left to her own thoughts. They were going to be better than the Dangan Academy.

No.

They were already better than the Dangan Academy.

Notes:

I got name meanings from Google. Thanks Google.
