Work Text:

It was a cloudy day in New York City, and on Straight and Narrow Street, inside a certain Freelance Police office, a dog and lagomorph duo were looking at a computer.

"Jeez Max, how do you even use this thing?"  Sam said as he fiddled at the computer in front of them.

"Gee, I don't know Sam, weren't you like super good with computers and other dorky stuff when we were kids?"  Max said.

"Oh, shut it bonehead.  Sam said as he threw Max to a pile of letters were, most of them IRS notices that they ignored.

"That was fun, Sam!"  Max said as he shook off the various letters and paper.

"I'm surprised you aren't covered in paper cuts little buddy."  Sam said.

"Well, you know me, I've build up an immunity to paper cuts ever since that case in Scranton!"  Max said.

"Hey Max, what are you holding?"  Sam said.

"Oh, well, it's an old letter..."  Max said as he read it.

"Hey, this is that invitation I got to the Inventory over a decade ago!"  Max said.

"Oh yeah, I remember that!  You used to love going there and playing against your poker buddies!"  Sam said.

"It was fun!  I wonder why I never played after that?"  Max said.

"Didn't you get banned after you ate the poker chips too many times?"  Sam said as Max coughed up a poker chip from the Inventory.

"Hey, this one's a $10,000 chip!  Wonder if they'll let us use it again?"  Max said.

"Depends if we're ever invited back.  Hope they're doing well, with them getting back off their feet recently!"  Sam said as all of a sudden, the phone rang.  Sam reached for the phone reciever, as Max kicked it straight into the air, the phone getting caught onto the fan, and the two were caught in a stand-off, waiting for the phone to fall down.  Once it did, Max leaped off of Sam to grab it, but Sam grabbed him, and pulled the phone, answering it.

"Yeah, uh huh?  Sure!  We'll do that!  Thanks, bye!"  Sam said as he hung up.

"Let me guess Sam, that wasn't the Commissioner?"  Max said.

"Well, your guess would be right Sam, I mean Max!  Are your psychic powers coming back, by any chance?"  Sam said.

"No, it's just that nearly every time you've answered the phone in this series, it's been someone else besides the Commissioner, so I just guessed!"  Max said.

"Oh you rascal!"  Sam said.

"So who was it?"  Max said.

"It was Sean!  His birthday's coming up, and he invited us over to his place for dinner!"  Sam said.

"Do we get free cake?"  Max said.

"Yes Max, there will be cake."  Sam said.

"Yay!"  Max said.

"Well, first we've got to go get him something that he'll like!"  Sam said.

"Why don't we get him something from that game store at the mall near us?"  Max said.

"Holy oak trees on the Great Lakes region!  You're right Max!  That's a good idea."  Sam said.

"I know what my brother likes.  Now c'mon you big lug, let's get out of here!"  Max said as he and his husband exited the office, passing by Flint Paper, who was tuning his pistol.  After that, they started walking over to where the DeSoto was, when they ran into Sybil.

"Oh hey girlfriend!  How's it hanging?"  Max said, with mock sass in his voice.

"Oh hey Sam, hey Max.  How's it going?"  Sybil said.

"Well it's going alright, what's up with you?"  Sam said.

"I've finally found my life's calling!"  Sybil said.

"Add that to the tally!"  Max said as Sam pulled out a pen and pad, as he marked it, and put it back in his inventory.

"Yeah, it's being a meteor insurance saleswoman!"  Sybil said.

"Sybil, I doubt anyone will buy that."  Sam said.

"I've already gotten a dozen people on this street alone signed up for it!"  Sybil said.

"And when did you start this job?"  Sam said.

"This morning."  Sybil said.

"Well that's actually pretty good!  Some people are just natural suckers."  Sam said.

"I know!  So where are you two going?"  Sybil said.

"To get a present for Max's brother."  Sam said.

"Max has a brother?"  Sybil said.

"I'm surprised you didn't know that Sybil!"  Max said.

"I don't think you ever told me."  Sybil said.

"Well we've got to get going now, nice talking to you Sybil!"  Sam said as the two got in the DeSoto and drove off.  After picking up a game for Sean, they made it back home, and decided go wrap it.  After that, they had to get dressed up.

"Should I wear the pink dress, or the orange one?"  Max said as he pulled two dresses of his off the rack.

"I think you should do the orange one.  You look really sexy in that one."  Sam said.

"Sam, the last person you called sexy was Peepers, do you have a problem with that?"  Max said.

"Max, you should obviously know I was messing with you."  Sam said.

"That's what I'm doing with you, ya big lug!"  Max said as he kissed Sam's cheek.  Sam blushed.  The two got dressed, and went to the DeSoto.  Sam started it, and they went on the speed limit to Sean's house.

"Sucks the kids couldn't join us."  Max said.

"Yeah, well Geek is on the cusp of developing that rifle, and she needs them to test it out!"  Sam said.

"Fair point."  Max said as they reached the driveway of Sean's house.

"You ready?"  Sam said.

"Just a sec!"  Max said as he put on lipstick, and planted a big kiss on Sam's face.  Sam looked flustered as Max did that.

"There, now I'm ready!"  Max said, with a big grin on his face.

"Oh, you crack me up little buddy!"  Sam said as the two were ready for a night of celebration and fun.

Notes:

I wanted to include a special little thing at the end.

It's been one year since I published my first ever fic, Sam and Max Play Poker. One year ago, I just wanted to write a dumb fic about my favorite couple, and I didn't expect how much people would like it. Over the past year, I find I've become a better writer and storyteller, and have managed to create so many good tales and characters. I just want to give a special thank you to everyone for reading, liking, and supporting my fics, it's been a great year, and there will be more to come in the next!

Yes, also this is Sean's birthday! Happy birthday to my first real OC! He's quite grown on me! He's gotten a lot of tentacle cuddles today for sure!
