Chapter Text
A family of four were eating breakfast when one of the members froze, her eyes rolled back and her glass of orange juice slipped from her grasp and clattered on the table. The rest of the family paused and watched her for a moment.
“Mark honey. Would you get her a new one? I’ll clean the spill.” The woman who spoke stood as she did so. She headed for the fridge and filled a second glass of orange juice. Her husband, Mark, nodded his head in acknowledgment to her before he went to the fridge to get another glass. The woman was shaky as she started to clean up the mess, she jumped a little as Mark placed a hand on her shoulder.
“She’ll be fine, Elizabeth. I know you worry when these happen but she’s been having them since she was little. She knows how to handle it.” Elizabeth nodded a little, though she still wrung her hands with worry. As the two cleared the mess, the young man who was seated at the table watched the girl carefully. When her eyes finally returned to normal, he grinned a bit then reached over to flick her gently on the nose.
“Hey Clair…you with us?” Clair nodded a little, the vision had rattled her but she was coming back to herself. The young man smiled a little and then looked up as Elizabeth and Mark came back, noticing Clair was no longer in her vision.
“ Hey kiddo…glad you’re back…what did you see?” Clair frowned a little and took a sip of the orange juice her father had held out for her.
“Another death vision, dad…. Young man at that school for mutants….there’s an explosion, and he’s too close to it. There’s a blue mutant who takes a man in a wheelchair, the other guy goes after him and there’s an explosion. Then all I saw was silver and everyone was safe….except the one who tried to save his friend….”
“So… I guess we’ll be visiting the school?” Clair nodded a little and stood. She wobbled a little and Nicky stood to try and steady her, she waved him off then headed for the door. Seeing a vision of death always made Clair determined to try and save the victim, no matter what it took to save them. She hurried to the family’s car and hurried to get in the back seat. Nicky sat beside her and her parents got in the front. Mark started the car as soon as the family was all buckled in and he took off as fast as he could.
Once they got to the school Clair almost tore the door off the car then anxiously waited for her family to exit the car. As soon as Mark locked the doors she was dashing inside, a few mutants gave her funny looks but she didn't care, she needed to save someone's life, that's all that mattered at this moment. When she got inside she asked one of the students where she would find Charles Xavier, the poor student looked almost scared at her questioning before they stuttered out that he had been seen heading to the basement with a few others. They quickly warned her that “the professor” wouldn’t want to be interrupted. She ignored their warning and instead grilled them into telling her where the elevator down was, eventually the student showed her where the elevator was and she quickly thanked them and entered it. The ride down was short but for the brunette girl it dragged on forever. When the doors opened she saw an unconscious man in a wheelchair zipping down the hall, several calls of 'Charles' caught her attention. Clair stepped out of the elevator and a half second later the blonde man from her vision slammed into her, they both topped to the ground and lay there stunned.
The blonde quickly scrambled to his feet and shot a red-hot bolt of energy down the hall, Clair's eyes widened in horror and she screamed out.
"NO WAIT!" She was too late to stop the man and within a second the explosion from her vision was tearing up the school. She had barely taken a breath when she found herself outside standing beside the blonde, in front of her was a silver haired man, who was wearing a silver jacket and goggles. She quickly realized this was the silver blur who had saved the others in her vision, when she turned to look at the blonde she was relived to see the only thing wrong with him was his windswept hair. She had done it, she had saved him. She let out a sigh of relief, which caused the blonde to look over at her. He paused a moment, then frowned in confusion.
"Who are you? What just happened?" Clair opened her mouth to answer, but the sound of an approaching car startled her. As they pulled up, the occupants of the car all gasped in shock at the smouldering wreckage of the school. There was barely a moment’s pause before a boy with red glasses and brown hair rushed forward and shouted.
"Alex? Alex!? Where's Alex!?" The blonde beside Clair lifted his attention from her to the boy who was calling out for Alex. Evidently he was this “Alex” because a second later he responded.
"I'm over here, Scott....didn't know you cared so much." A small smirk formed on Alex's face when Scott ran over to make sure he was truly okay. A second later, Scott spotted Clair, a look of confusion crossed his face.
"Who's this? I don't remember seeing her..." Clair was once again about to speak when she was pulled into another vision. She saw government agents of some sort knock out the mutants gathered on the school grounds, then take a few and leave. She frowned and looked around, trying to see where the agents would be coming from. The sender came in the form of a fast approaching military chopper thudding towards them, she grabbed both Alex and Scott's hands and pulled them towards the ruined school. A red haired girl and a blue boy exchanged confused glances before following. Clair crouched behind a section of still standing wall and pointed at the chopper as the other four couched behind her.
"They aren't here to help...we can't be seen..." She spoke in a hushed, quick whisper. A moment later she was proven right when a large shock wave like blast tore though the area and the mutants not hiding behind the wall were knocked unconscious. She got a few questioning looks from the other four mutant she was hiding with, the looks were ignored, she’d have time to explain herself later. When a soldier started walking towards them she frowned and looked around for an exit. Her search for an escape was halted when the red haired girl also saw the soldier and simply raised her fore and middle fingers to her temple and watched the man carefully. When he passed by them Clair tensed up, the soldier looked right at the group. He didn’t raise an alarm, however, he simply walked back to his superiors. Apparently giving the all clear because the shopper started preparing to take off. Scott looked around then turned to the blue boy.
"Kurt, can you get us in there?" Kurt paused and looked panicked for a second.
"You vant to go in there?!" Scott nodded and Kurt frowned before holding out his hands.
“Fine…hold on.” The others quickly reached to hold onto Kurt’s hands before he teleported them all inside the chopper. Barely a moment later there was a loud metallic clang as the doors were sealed, and an electric field went up, trapping the group of five.
