Work Text:
When the jump points forming right on top of the station reveal three Minbari war cruisers and one ship of a configuration he has never encountered before Lieutenant David Corwin is too stunned to report. Seconds later it has become a moot point anyway.
"This is Ambassador Delenn of the Minbari. Babylon 5 is under our protection. Withdraw or be destroyed."
On board the Alexander Major Ed Ryan does a double take. Captain John "Starkiller" Sheridan has made some powerful friends indeed.
"Negative. We have authority here. Do not force us to engage your ship."
Lieutenant María Ortega, leader of the Agrippa's alpha squad, swears. She is not a coward by any means. In fact, when the reinforcements appeared, she was looking forward to turning the tide and avenging her mother ship's destruction. But this is just stupid.
"Why not? Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me."
Adrift in her escape pod, totally helpless, Susan Ivanova realizes she was lucky enough to not only join the right side, but the winning one as well.
"If you value your lives, be somewhere else!"
On the bridge of the Nimrod Captain Drake exchanges a look with his second in command and knows they are both thinking the same thing. This is not worth dying for. Earth is. President Clark is not.
Delenn watches the Earth Alliance ships turn tail and feels the tension leaving her body. She would not have hesitated for one second to make good on her threats. But she is utterly relieved she will not have to.
As the jumpgate opens allowing the ships to flee, John Sheridan's eyes are glued to the monitor. He looks, but he does not see. Because his mind is still stuck with the image of Delenn's face.
