Work Text:

She’s been watching the family for a while. Ever since she found herself in the odd, normal yet magical place, she had to do something to keep her mind focused. She’d arrived some time after the first grandchild had been born. It was a big celebration that gained her curiosity, she’d gone through a crowd to ask, what was so big that fireworks were going off in the sky.

She’d been told it was the birth of a new Madrigal. She had to assume that was a family name and not a song. How strange that an entire town celebrate the birth of one baby. It reminded her of fairytales and made her wonder if the family was essentially royalty.

A few days later she had met the first magical member, The mother of the new baby and a healer apparently. It had been shocking to watch a man with a very badly broken arm eat a cheesy biscuit of some kind and instantly be healed. She absolutely had to learn more. She’d gotten in line and gotten one , to save and test the limits.

It was children of the town who’d helped her learn more because she’d gotten strange looks. Strangers weren’t normal in this place, which was named Encanto. The children told her of how the lady with the healing food just had a gift! All the Madrigal blood family do, and nobody else in town. They spoke of another woman, the first one’s sister. A woman whose emotions affected the weather. She wasn’t in town lately because she was heavily pregnant at the moment and with her emotions in a rollercoaster she’d been staying in her home. There was also a man, who told the future but was known to give bad visions. The kids looked a bit scared when telling her about him.

Then there was the matriarch, the holder of what was a magical candle. Everyone called it a miracle. She had to see it. People were lined up at the house to get their fortunes told by the man, Bruno. She had a lot of thoughts in her head, getting in line.

He looks absolutely exhausted when she gets to him. A little pale, his eyes had a dim glow she found interesting. He seems a little confused when he meets her. Awkwardly polite. She felt a bit tired from those god damned stairs. She hated sand in her shoes as well. But she was lucky, apparently this was his bed room, she couldn’t imagine having to go up and down every day.

She was polite with him. It seemed a bit necessary to share the food she’d gotten from the Healer woman with him. It surprised him that much was certain. He was almost hesitant to take it but he was definitely grateful. He smiled a little and she couldn’t help smiling back. He was a sweet guy, she could tell that much but he was suffering a little. If the angry expression on several of the people who’d gone out of his room was anything to go by, he probably had bad days often.

So she talked with him, for a few minutes. She asked about some of the broken tablets, which she learned were visions and from the look of them they were pure Emerald. He was nice enough to let her take the broken pieces. She asked about how his power or gift as he called it worked. He offered to show her give her a Vision. She hesitated.

She used to read a lot of mythology, power always interested her as a little girl. Her parents even bought a few books about it for her. Future vision was always tricky when she read about it. Sometimes it was in stone. Most times learning your own future caused the self fulfilling aspect but she supposed that these ones were just warnings. Preventable if you knew about them. So she asked for something minor. She wanted to see if she would be here long, in this Encanto of theirs.

To say she was pleasantly surprised was an understatement.
