The asset watches the captain in confusion and slight recognition. The sight of the blond haired man stirs something in the asset.
It pokes at a small part of the asset’s mind, almost buried in the decades of blood and violence and death. A peaceful time, full of friendship and a promise.
A promise to stay with each other til the end of the line .
The words are strangely familiar. The asset isn’t sure what they mean, but the asset knows they are important.
The other words are important as well, but those words are filled with hurt and cruelty. These words are full of love and caring.
The asset doesn’t understand why they are important, but the asset knows it said them. To the blond man, the captain. And now the captain says them to the asset.
It makes the asset hesitate, just long enough for the abused metal beneath the blond man to give way, sending the man into the watery depths below.
The asset hangs onto the beam above it, watching the man fall. The mission is to kill the blond man, but the asset feels itself decide not to. It hasn’t decided something in so long.
The asset lets go and follows the captain into the icy water below.
