The Legendary Trio

Summary:

A small creative writing practice/blurb I imagined back in my pre-teen days of 2001. I remember it fondly and the story was neat, so am posting for archival purposes! ^^

"There were three Pokémon that were born into the world alone. They had no inheritance of any kind...
Once the young trainers saw the Pokémon, they used all of the power they had to capture them. But the Gods revived from their dormant state, and they struck the trainers with their unbeatable strength..."

Notes:

If you clicked to view this, I thank you! This is merely a blurb, completely unfinished and will never be. I am only archiving for memory's sake, and to see the roots of my writing.

I wrote this in 2001, on my off time for something to do (dial-up modem and my family had no cable TV back then, options were limited! lol). Pokemon was and is still one of my favorite franchises, and I recall I wanted to try my hand at my own side-story of it (and totally not knowing it was to be considered “fan-fiction” as it is today ^^)

For context, this took place in Johto region, 2nd Pokemon Generation. If I recall, this was when Johto Pokemon and legendaries were being previewed on commercials, or were only in the games and I didn't have access to anime at that time. So, I imagined what they may be like. Rest is fuzzy history!
Take this for what it is: I was a pre-teen then, so any cringiness or edginess… Wellllll, ha! (The kids' names I came up with… jeeeeez, prime examples!) But I do remember I worked very hard at this to have a more mature theme; I think it shows. ^^

Only things that are edited is the formatting. Converting from extinct .pub Publisher format to archaic .doc Microsoft document, to .pdf and pasted into Google Docs… yup. That'll do it!

If you read this far, congratulations!...? I think? But please, Enjoy!
And btw… LONG LIVE EEVEE! (Eevee was my all time fave 'Man, from the 151 OG's to the secondary mascot it is now :-D)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

The Legendary Trio

There were three Pokémon that were born into the world alone. They had no inheritance of any kind.

One entered the planet after a great volcano erupted. Its interior crumbled, and covered in molten rock was a beast who was immune to the intense heat. Once it shook off the magma soaked in its shaggy fur, it roamed the mountains and triggered more volcanic explosions with its mighty roar.

Another started its life during a massive storm. When several lightning bolts of clouds that blew from the north, south, west and east current collided, an earsplitting crack and blinding light swam through the atmosphere. A bright form slowly soared down to the shaking ground. It made cries that caused tremors and the clouds respond with thunder. The creature raced through the land with its storm following behind.

The last formed in an unusual way. In a quiet, secluded pond when the moon shown overhead, a breeze slowly accumulated over the area. It soon became a harsh wind. The still waters of the pond lifted into waves. The moon’s glow grew, and illuminated the surging waters. From the torrents arose a figure that effortlessly stepped among the surface. Under its feet, the water immediately turned calm once again. The being ran through the barrier of surrounding trees and ventured into the leading meadows, where the stars’ light was its guide.

The three made their long journey across foreign grounds. Their masculine legs carried them far and wide, and traveled a great distance in seconds. Not one living thing could see the creatures bolting through the tall grasses.

On one peaceful day in Ecruteak, the villagers encountered the three beasts. They took shelter and went into a deep slumber inside the Tower that was made for Gods that soon would come in the future. The people worshipped the legends of Water, Fire and Lightning, who were named Suicune, Entei, and Raikou.

The Three Gods lived in Ecruteak for centuries, but their tranquil lives were about to be disturbed. Passing trainers heard the myth of three individual species lying in their wake. The group of unprepared trainers entered the forbidden, enchanted tower, attempting to catch the mysterious legends. Their mistake would bring shame to the World.

Once the young trainers saw the Pokémon, they used all of the power they had to capture them. But the Gods revived from their dormant state, and they struck the trainers with their unbeatable strength. . . .

“I don’t know about this. . .”, said one of the teenagers who was cautiously walking down the rocky steps that would soon lead to the bottom of the Tower. She shivered, mumbling, “This isn’t right.”

The leader of the group made a laugh. “Sandra, there’s nothing to worry about. All we’re doing is following one of the rules of a Great Pokémon Master: Capture as many Monsters as you can. There’s nothing wrong with this.”

“But Spike,” she objected, “We’re about to awake the most powerful Pokémon that ever lived! Aren’t they supposed to be guardians of this Town?” Spike turned around and held Sandra’s cheeks so that her eyes met his.

“We’re going to the biggest, no, most famous Pokémon trainers alive if we pull this off! And, tell me this, why would these Pokémon come all the way over to Ecruteak if they weren’t going to be caught?”

The girl nervously darted her eyes around the dark hallway and whispered, “You’re right.” She didn’t say anything more.

“I know that I am. Joe?”

The other boy nodded in agreement. The group progressed down the steps further.

After continuous walking downward, they finally entered a portion of the lowest chamber. The tower above ground was made of sturdy wood that was said to be chopped off trees from many different Pokémon. The bottom, however, was under the soil, and was forged from pure stone. That is where the Water, Fire, and Electric Pokémon were said to be hibernating.

Spike started to run on the gravelly walkway. “We’re almost there! I can feel it!” His body disappeared in the Shadows.

Sandra called out in warning. “Spike! No!” The only response was a distant yell from below.

The girl’s face turned pale and she rushed ahead. Joe wasn’t far behind.

Sandra tried her best to move quickly, but she didn’t have enough footing. With an alarmed cry she lost control and buckled, but landed face first on a smooth floor.

“Aaaah!” Another yelp arrived as Joe skidded onto the same area that Sandra landed.

Joe searched his hands on the floor for his fallen glasses. Once slipped onto his face, he scanned the area.

“I don’t see Spike. In fact, I don’t see anything!”

There was no light whatsoever. All they could see was darkness. Sandra placed her hands in front of her face, but nothing appeared. Her voice echoed against unknown walls as she questioned, “Where are we?"

A tremendous roar echoed in the two’s ears, and a light suddenly loomed in the gloom. A dragon-like monster breathed fire that activated an instant change in their surroundings.

The darkness disappeared as the place was set aglow. A brilliant radiance reflected off of the floor, walls, and ceiling’s . . . crystalline surface. Clear, colorful crystals.

The Charizard stopped releasing flames, but the mysterious glow in the room remained. Next to the gigantic Pokémon stood Spike, with a great smile planted on his face.

“Quite crafty, isn’t it?”

Aghast, the others joined them. Sandra looked around and shrugged. “What do we do now?”

Joe was already there. He was against the wall ahead of them pushing the glimmering gems. Much into nature, he could tell any unusual difference in the environment. His hands pushed on the icy outside. Smiling, he concluded, “This wall is softer than the rest. Like its slowly dissolving. What would be warming it on the other side?”

“Living things’ body heat!” Sandra snapped.

Joe nodded. “Exactly. And we need to break it down.”

Spike raised his hand. “Got it.” He dispatched one PokéBall from his belt and threw it forward. From it, a creature with poisonous barbs lined along its back stamped its burly feet and gave out an aggressive bellow.

“This oughta be the easy part,” Spike pointed a finger at Charizard. “Melt that wall with FlameThrower!”

The large lizard inhaled deeply and blew out glowing, fingering flames toward the crystal barrier. There was a crack as the fire met with it, and red waves flowed over the whole enclosure. Before their eyes they could see the gems’ ends ooze like sap.

As Charizard kept on blowing, Spike next ordered his Nidoking. “Earthquake! Now!”

The Pokémon jumped into the air and shifted its bulk on its hefty tail. After another loud howl, it released its weight and dropped heavily onto the glassy floor. The whole room shook as if under an erupting volcano, and the ground beneath their feet split under the quakes spreading from Nidoking’s claws. Bulging surges of rock followed its way to the crystal barricade that was still victim of Charizard’s extreme flames.

CrrrrrrrAAAACK! A giant explosion concurred.

There were sharp bursts as the crest of the icy, crystal wall caved in downward. The center was crushed as huge blocks came collapsing down. After moments of rumbling and crashes, thick, choking smoke cloaked the glistening room. The three teenagers sputtered and coughed, gasping for air . . .

. . . BOOM! CrrrrrrASH!

Huge explosions reverberated off of the walls. Nothing could not of heard the forceful blast.

And some things did . . .

. . . Joe threw one of his own PokéBalls into the smoke. Under his stalled breaths, he commanded, “Whirlwind!” The Pokémon responded by flapping rapidly, which created a miniature spiral. Its sharp winds sent the smoke at bay until it dissipated into nothing but harmless air.

The group heaved a couple of relieved sighs. They all turned to Joe’s Pokémon, a Crobat. The purple bat gave a screech and flew over to Joe to settle down on his shoulder.

Its extra wings that were in place of toes folded into the crevices of Joe’s shirt, enabling it to balance.

Spike gave a cocky smile. “Let’s go.” He raised an arm to show where the crystal barrier had used to stand. There was nothing more except for the base that rose three feet from the ground. Heaps of glittering dust and pebbles was the rest of what used to be pure crystal. Ahead, the only thing that could be seen was darkness.

“Well? What’re we waiting for?” Spike consulted. But the other two teenagers stood their guard.

He crossed his arms and shouted, “C’mon!” A minute had passed and no one did anything. Spike, annoyed now, stepped to Joe and said, “Heeeello? Can we go?”

All Joe did was start to fidget with his glasses, and gave a passive grin. Spike returned him with an angered frown and immediately walked to Sandra. She stared ahead, unmoving.

Spike shook his head, but said no more. He started his way into the darkness, and his Pokémon loyally followed behind.

As the group’s leader went forward, Sandra’s hair lifted on end. Goosebumps spread over her body as a bone-chilling breeze suddenly blew in. It made her shiver: from the temperature or fear, she did not know. All she could do was watch as Spike disappeared . . . . .

“Spike! Nooooo!”

The air around them dropped so sharply that Sandra gasped, but couldn’t breathe the icy oxygen. Both she and Joe dropped to the cavern floor, stunned by the quick change of warm to freezing . . .

Spike was now engulfed in the darkness with only the faint glimmer of his Charizard’s fiery tail. The dragon lead the way. . . .

Notes:

That's all, folks! I think I had a writer's block and shelved it then. Sadly. But it was a neat practice for what it was!

I am going to upload another secondary and SHORT fanfic I also wrote in 2001, from another Pokemon head-canon I had starring (me) and my Eevee and friends. Stay tuned if (anyone at all!) is interested
