Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Chapter Text
Parents are always supposed to die before their children. Only when the child has built a life of their own, with their own family. Parents were supposed to die when they were old and grey, after watching their grandchildren grow up. To give guidance to their children to help raise kids of their own. They're meant to watch their child grow up into an amazing person that they raised.
That's how it should be.
But unfortunately, that wasn't always the case.
My parents just had to get in that car. They could have taken the longer route to get home, they didn't have to take a short cut. They just had to drive down that one street, in the rain, at night. Down that curve that was hard to see, even when it was light outside. They just had to do it.
It wasn't their fault, I know it wasn't. It wasn't their fault it was raining. It wasn't their fault that tree happened to fall, right at the time they drove near it. It wasn't their fault. I just wish it didn't happen.
When the police knocked on the door, when I opened it. When they asked if I was Anna Hanson, daughter of Marie and Ivan Hanson. I said yes. When they came in and told me what had happened, I didn't believe them, not one bit. I thought it was some sort of joke my parents made up. But it wasn't, it wasn't a joke. It was real. They were really dead. Gone.
They took me down to the hospital they were brought to. To make sure they were actually my parents. They were. There they were. Lying on two beds, white cloths covering most of their bodies. They appeared to be sleeping. I could imagine them sleeping. Imagine them waking up and laughing, pulling my leg. But they weren't. They were never waking up. Never. They were gone. Dead.
I would never see them again. I would never wake up, walk downstairs and see them in the kitchen cooking breakfast. Every now and then my dad stealing a bit of food my mom had just cooked. I would never see them after school. I would never tell them about my day. Laughing about how the science teacher had obviously dyed his hair to hide his graying hair. I would never sit with them at the dining room table after dinner, both of them helping me with my homework. I would never hear about their days at work. Dad a Professor at the local college. Mom an event planner. Never would I hear their funny stories about classmates and clients. I would never sit in the living with them, arguing with them about what movie we would watch. So many things I would never do with them anymore.
So many things that were gone. So many things that I would never be able to tell them or experience with them. So many things that would never happen again. That never would happen. So many things.
It's been two weeks since they died, but I still feels like it was just yesterday. The service, the burial, the wake, it all went by so fast. I thought it would go slow, but I was wrong. It went fast. Faster then I thought it would be. It seemed to pass in a blur. In most stories and movies you see, deaths go by slow. Like you're a sloth or a turtle, trying to walk through molasses. But for me. It felt like cheetah running on one of those moving tracks you see at airports.
I know two weeks wasn't long, but to me it was. In another two weeks, it will be a month. 30 days. Now that kinda seems like a long time. Also, for the amount of things that happened in those two weeks. They flew by.
From the accident, to the confirmation of my parents. From family coming to see me and take me home, to comforting and babying me (which I didn't like, by the way). From trying to plan the service and the wake. From my Aunt Dolores coming and insisting on taking everything over. Even though my parents wanted things done a certain way. From the reading of their will. That was in the span of three days.
On the fifth day, officials came to the house. They came to talk to about where I was to live. I was live with my "Godparents" but technically my Guardians. Ones I had never met. Aunt Dolores protested to that. Saying that I was going to live with her. To hell with that. No way was I going to live with her. Legally though, I had to live with the people my parents deemed my Guardians.
My parents never really told me about the couple I would go to if they die. My parents weren't religious, but they still wanted someone to take me in case they passed. The obvious answer was someone in the family, but my parents had their reasons for not having family take me in.
So, the chose someone outside of the family. Oddly enough, it was their neighbor/doctor they appointed Guardianship to me, when they used to live in Michigan. I didn't know why. They never told me the reason they chose this particular couple. All I know, is that my parents asked them, the couple at first didn't want to accept, but they obviously did in the end.
I only knew a few things about the family. The couple's names: Carlisle and Esme Cullen. I knew they had five kids, three boys, two girls, all around my age. I knew the father was a doctor and the mother liked to design and build things. According to my parents, they were really nice. I guess I would find that out for myself when I meet them.
After the two hour long argument my Aunt got into with the people that came to the house and the rest of the family there, it was decided that I would live with the Cullen family, but after the funeral and all that stuff was done. The officials had called the couple before coming here. And they said they would have everything ready for me when I arrived.
To say I was nervous was kinda an understatement. I was a little terrified. Going half way across the country to live with a family I've never met and only heard about briefly. I would be disrupting this family, I know I would. They didn't know me, I didn't know them. Strangers. They all knew each other, they had memories and inside jokes and everything a family has. I knew none of these things. I would be intruding on their lives.
Author's Note: Hi! Thank you for choosing to read this story, I really appreciate it. Just thought I would give you a little news about updates. I don't know how much I'll be able to update, it'll probably be slow in the beginning. I am in school and I work, which takes up most of my days/time. I also don't want to rush this story, I have a lot of ideas for it. I'll try not to make you wait too long, but don't count/hold me on it.
I also have this story up on Wattpad and Quotev as well, under the same username.
Anyway, that's all I have to say for now, thank you again for reading this. Have a nice day/night/whatever time it is for you right now!
Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Chapter Text
"About twenty more minutes until we're at the house." Donna, one of the officials that came to my old house a couple of weeks ago said.
I merely nodded, watching the forest of trees rush by.
I arrived at Seattle's airport early this morning. When I arrived at the part where you got picked up, there was a man and woman, Jerry and Donna, holding a sign with my name on it. Anna Hanson Cullen.
We exchanged a few words before getting my luggage from the belt. And then we were off, driving to a small town called Forks.
The ride was quiet, I liked it. The longest conversation the three of us had was about five minutes long. It was mostly just the two of them going over what they told me when they were in Ohio. I just said "ok" and "got it" at random moments. After that, silence, except for the occasional "how much time until we're there" saying.
We drove through the small town named after an eating utensil. It looked nice, cheery. The people walking around looked happy, all of them smiling, waving at each other. By the looks of it, everyone knew everyone. Great.
As the car drove through the town, people's heads turned. They smiled and waved at us. Either they didn't get many visitors or they thought we were a new family moving to town. Only I was the one moving to this town. Jerry and Donna were the ones visiting. The rest of the town would know that soon enough.
We then the town behind and started driving down a forest edged road. There were trees as far as the eye could see. Deep greens and browns. Grays and yellows from the long winding road. Sometime I'd see a flash of white, a bird sitting in the tree. The sky was a pale grey, with dark grey clouds threatening to cover the sky. The sun was not visible in the sky, the dark clouds covering it.
At some point, the car turned onto a winding dirt road in the middle of the trees. If we weren't looking for it, I doubt that we would have found it. The edges of it were overgrown, some of the ferns were swashed into the ground from other cars driving on top of them. Trees surrounded us, we couldn't see anything else. The only difference was the dirt road in front of us.
After five minutes of driving carefully down the road I see the first glimpse of the house I'll be living in for at least the next two years. It was another flash of white in the sea of green. As we turned the corner to fully see the house, my heart started to pound. It had really hit me that I would living with other people who weren't my family. Complete strangers.
The house looked out place in the middle of the trees. On the way here I thought the house would match the scenery. Rustic, browns and greens. I imagined it as looking like a cabin in the middle of the woods.
What I didn't imagine, was a modern house, three floors high, lots of windows. It looked like most of the house was windows. Brown planks and dark grey concrete. It was beautiful.
Jerry gave a low whistle as he stopped the car. Donna nodded to his unsaid statement. She kept looking up and down at the house, taking in every detail.
"You ready, kid?" Jerry turned in his seat to look at me.
"Ready as I can." I answered, grabbing my backpack and opening the car door.
The coolness of the air hit me, it felt nice. Looking up at the sky, I knew it was going to rain soon. The sky seemed ready to bust. I could hear some thunder very faintly. Any minute now it was going to pour.
The other car doors opened and closed. Donna standing on my left, Jerry walking around the car to stand on my right. All three of us looking at the massive house that I would be living in for at least two years.
"Ok, let's go." Donna gave me a pat on my shoulder before walking up to the house, Jerry following two steps behind. I waited until they were almost at the door to start moving toward the house.
Jerry knocked on the door as my foot hit the first step. The sound was loud to me. Each knock piercing into my head. Slow and loud. He only gave three knocks, only two seconds, but they felt like minutes. Time seemed to slow. All I heard was the knocking, echoing in my head, and my breathing. I tried taking slow, deep breaths but they kept getting stuck in my throat.
The door opened and I forced my eyes to look at the two people standing at the door.
Holy shit. These people were breathtakingly beautiful. Never had a seen a person look like them. They looked perfect. Absolutely perfect. From their face, to their body, to the way they presented themselves, to the way they smiled at the three ordinary people standing in front of them.
The thing that caught me staring a them was their eyes. Both husband and wife had the most beautiful goldenish-yellow eyes. Never had a seen a color like that. I didn't even know that that color was possible or a real thing.
"Good morning, are you Mr. and Mrs. Cullen?" Jerry asked, voice shaking a bit, taking in the beautiful couple.
"Good morning to you as well and yes, yes we are. Please, come in." The husband replied, his voice also, somehow, beautiful. He put his arm around his wife's shoulder, stepping back and gesturing with his hands for us to come in.
We were hesitant, but we started walking in the house. I didn't look at the couple as I walked in, instead looking around the inside of the house.
If the outside of the house was amazing, it was nothing compared to the inside. Nice and light and modern like the outside, but with all the paintings and artifacts and sculptures on the walls and around the room. All of it was interesting and different to look at.
"Welcome to our home. My name is Carlisle and this is my wife, Esme."
"Thank you, I'm Jerry Thomas."
"I'm Donna Parks."
They stopped talking, while I was looking around the house, trying to take it all in. It took a couple of seconds for me to realize it was my turn to responds.
"Anna." Short answer.
"Hanson, well, I guess Cullen now." I muttered under my breath, knowing that no one would be able to hear me.
"You have a beautiful home." Donna commented.
"Thank you." The wife, Esme, replied. Her voice also beautiful. Perfect.
They were just the perfect couple weren't they?
"This cross. How old is it?" Jerry asked.
I followed his eyesight to see a beautiful old looking cross hanging on the wall near the stairs.
"I don't remember the exact year, but it was made sometime before the mid 1600s. It actually belongs to my family that was alive back then. Most of the sons and fathers back then worked at the Church. One of the fathers made this cross by hand and has been passed down through generation after generation." Mr. Cullen answered.
"That's amazing, incredible even. The cross looks like it's been well taken cared for."
"Thank you very much, I appreciate that." Mr. Cullen smiled and bowed his head. Even that was perfect.
While Jerry and Donna were looking around the room still, I was looking the wall on the stairs. There sat a bunch of what looked like graduation caps. All of different colors, five rows of them. Wonder where if they bought a bunch of the caps, or just found it one day while shopping.
How much of a coincidence was it that they had five kids and an art piece with five rows of graduation caps?
"-do you have a place we can sit and get the started?" Jerry asked, bringing me back to what was going on around me.
"Yes, we can go upstairs to the parlor." Mr. Cullen answered, raising his hand up the the floor above us.
Without saying anything, I started walking up the stairs, hearing the other footsteps behind me.
The second floor was just as impressive as the first. Art along the walls, what looked like expensive looking couches and chairs, even the coffee table looked expensive. One of the walls was made of glass, looking out into the forest. All of it was beautiful.
I sat down on one of the love seats, staring down at the floor.
"Ok, let's get started," I heard Jerry unzip his briefcase, with all the paper work in it. I heard him put the papers on the table and I started to zone out.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I didn't really listen to a word anyone said, only when they spoke directly to me, usually when they wanted me to sign something.
The whole thing only lasted about 45 minutes, but it felt like forever. I spent most of that time just thinking about how this new life would go.
Would they like me? Would we all get along? Did all them even want me living here? Did some of them wish I wasn't coming into this family? Were any of them excited I was joining the Cullen family? Would I even fit into the family? Would they get sick of me and decide that they didn't want me anymore? The list of questions went on and on.
"Looks like everything is all set. Anyone have any questions?" Donna asked, looking between the Cullen's and I. I shook my head, Mr. and Mrs. Cullen doing the same.
"Well then," Donna started to get up from the couch, Jerry doing the same. "if that's all, I guess it's time for Jerry and I to get going."
"Anna, it's been lovely meeting you." Jerry came over to me to shake my hand.
"Thank you, nice meeting you too." I answered quietly, standing up as well.
"You'll be fine, don't worry about. Everything will be fine. Trust me." He whispered so that I would only hear. No one else. I gave him a small smile, which he returned. I hoped he was right.
"Yes, lovely to meet you too." Donna also came over to shake my hand.
"Mr. and Mrs. Cullen, it was nice to meet you two as well, have a great day." Jerry went to shake their hands. He shook Mr. Cullen's hands first. I noticed him flinch a tiny bit, but shook it off.
"Nice you meet you too. I'll walk you guys out," Mr. Cullen offered.
The four adults said their goodbyes, then three of them making their way out of the room. Leaving me alone with Mrs. Cullen.
"I know you didn't listen to any of the conversation. I don't blame you though. This must be hard."
I turned to look at Mrs. Cullen. She was giving me a small smile. I gave a quick one back.
"Yeah, maybe a little. Sorry." I answered.
"You don't have to apologize, I understand that. You have every right to be nervous."
"Thank you. I guess I am a bit nervous."
"It'll take time, but I think that you'll get comfortable here in no time." She paused. "I know you've probably heard this a lot already, but I'm sorry about your parents. They were wonderful people when I met them."
"It's fine, don't worry about it. And yeah, they were great. From what my parents told me about you and Mr. Cullen, you guys seem like good people too."
"Please, you can call us Carlisle and Esme, might make this a bit easier. Our other children call us that too from time to time." Mr. Cull- Carlisle, entered the room. I only nodded, looking around the room.
"All your stuff is in your room, they came yesterday. We left them in there. We thought you would like to put everything away yourself. The other kids don't get home from school for about two more hours, so you'll have some time of peace and quiet until they get home."
"Loud bunch?" I asked. I heard both of the chuckle.
"Sometimes, yeah. It's mostly Emmett that's the loud one, but don't worry, he's very nice, just excited most of the time." Esme laughed.
"There's a picture of them on the shelf over the fireplace, if you want to look." Carlisle pointed behind me.
I turned around, my eyes finding their way over to the few pictures above the fireplace. Pictures of the family I'm barging into. The one that caught my eye was the one in the very middle. A picture of seven perfect-looking, extremely attractive people.
I recognized Carlisle and Esme in the middle of the group. Carlisle was on the left and next to him was two other blondes, a boy and a girl. Both were attractive, but they had this look to them that they didn't want to be there. They even looked a little mean, like someone not to cross.
Great.
Next to Esme were two brown haired people, a boy and a girl, and one boy with bronze hair. The two brunettes looked like they were genuinely smiling. Both looked very nice and very opposite of the two blonde teens. The bronze haired boy smiled as well, but it didn't look all there. He didn't want to be there either.
All in all, the family looked perfect. Too perfect.
"From left to right it's, Jasper, Rosalie, Alice, Emmett, and Edward. Rose and Emmett are a year older than you, but the other three are the same age." Carlisle nodded to the picture.
I hummed in response. "Looks like a nice bunch."
"They are, most of the time anyway. They are teenagers after all, they get into mischief every now and then." Esme added, a smile on her face. I can tell that she really loved her children.
Would that be the same for me?
"Can't wait to meet them then."
"Come on, we'll show you to your room. It's on the next floor up."
I nodded, following Carlisle and Esme up one more set of stairs.
On the way up they told me where everything in the house was, whose rooms were whose and the like. My room was next to Jasper's on the right and Emmett and Rosalie's room on the left. Why Emmett and Rosalie shared a room, I have no idea why, but I didn't feel like asking either. It really wasn't any of my business.
I just hoped the Cullen family liked me.

Author's Note: Disclaimer, I have no idea how the adoption thingy works, so that's why I didn't really talk about it, I just kinda made it up. Plus, my story, I can make up things if I want to.
Also, I was in Cellular Biology the other day and we were learning about mitosis and meiosis and all I could think about was the scene in Twilight where Bella and Edward talk for the first time.
Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Chapter Text
Carlisle and Esme left me alone most of the time. They only came in once to ask how everything was going. Then they left me alone. I liked that. I liked people who didn't hover.
Almost all of my stuff was unpacked. Boxes littered the whole room, but most of them were empty.
The more I'm in this house, the more grand it gets. My room was twice as big as my old one. The closest alone was as big as my old room. I even had my own bathroom, with a mini (5ft) hallway to get there. I wouldn't be surprised if all the bedrooms had their own baths and walk-in closet. One of my walls was made of glass, which looked out into the green forest. There were sliding glass doors that led out to a porch outside. That would be a great thing in the summer, if it ever gets hot here.
My phone started ringing. I walked over to my bed to see who it was. Sara. One of my friends from Ohio.
I answered it, putting it on speaker phone, so that I could still put stuff away.
"Hey, Sara. You're on speaker phone."
"Heyyy, Anna. How's it going?" Her cheery voice asked. The girl was always smiling.
"It's going alright. Almost finish putting away my stuff. How are you?"
"I'm great! Just got out of school. I had to stay behind because someone decided to trash the girl's locker room. The gym teacher made whoever was left in there to clean it. It was terrible."
"Who wrecked it?"
"No idea. It happened so fast that before anyone could see who did it, they had already left. Sucks ass, but whatever, I'm out now. Figured I'd give you a call, see how everything was going."
"Like I said, it's going good. A little nervous, but that's to be expected."
"Have you met the whole family yet?" I heard her car door closing, her keys jingling.
"Not yet, just the parents. They're very nice. They've left me alone while I was putting away my stuff, so that's good."
"That's good, that they're nice. Anything else?"
"Um, well, the drive here was quiet. Drove through town before getting here. Everyone smiled and waved. It seems like everyone knows everyone here. Small town, so I already expected that. The house is in the middle of the woods, away from town."
Sara squealed. "Ooo, do you live in like a wooden cabin?"
I chuckled. "No, it's not a cabin. It's a more modern house. A big modern house. Three floors with one of the walls made out of glass."
"Glass? Like actual glass?"
"Yeah, like the whole entire side of the house. It's cool looking, but weird. I just hope there's not a big storm. That would be one hell of mess to clean up."
"I bet! I think I would be scared to even go near that side of the house."
"It's not so bad. It's a very pretty sight. Looking out into the woods. There's even a porch that I can go out to. It'll be nice in the summer, when it gets hot."
"Girl. It's Washington. It doesn't get that hot, I think."
"Ok, then it will be nice to sit out there with a hoodie and hot chocolate."
The girl on the phone sighed. "Yeah, they does sound nice," she paused. "So, when do you meet the other teens in the house?"
"Ummm, I don't know. Soon thought, I guess. According to what Carlisle and Esme said earlier, they should be getting here from the school soon."
"OoO, sounds exciting! And hey, I know you're nervous to meet them, but it'll be fine."
"Maybe."
"Have you at least seen pictures of them?"
"Yeah, I did. They're all very attractive, it's freaky." I remembered the picture of the five attractive kids.
"Well, then you'll fit right in with them then."
"I don't know about that. They're like, model pretty."
"And so are you."
"Sara, you think everyone is attractive."
"That's because everyone is. Everyone is attractive in their own way. I haven't met one single unattractive person in my life. And besides, it's not looks that make you attractive 100% of the time. Personality and who you are as person also makes you attractive."
"I-," before I could get another word out, I heard a door slam from somewhere downstairs. I had my door open, so the sound was even louder.
"Hey, what's happening?" I heard Sara's voice asked. I took her off speaker phone.
"I think the other's are here."
My heart started beating faster. I nervous to meet the rest of the Cullen Clan.
"Ohhh, ok, I'll let you go then. You'll be fine, don't worry. I know you're shy when you meet new people, but you'll be fine. Call me later, I'm free for the rest of the day, to tell me how everything went, ok?"
"Ok, I will. Thank you again. I'll talk to you later. Good bye."
"Bye bye." And Sara was gone.
I breathed out, throwing my phone on my bed.
I quietly walked to the open door.
Although I was very nervous, I had to eventually meet them. Better to get it over with as soon as possible.
Looking out the door, I saw no one in the hallway. Slowly, I put a foot in front of the other, making my way to the stair case.
"Hello dear mother! Good bye dear mother!" I heard a booming voice say very quickly from downstairs.
"Emmett Cullen come back here right now. You don't need to be shouting in the house." I heard Esme's voice call out.
Emmett. I remembered the picture of him. Very tall and buff, like a bear. Esme's voice sounded in my head of how Emmett was the loud one of the bunch. I can clearly see that now.
I stood at the top of the stairs, not yet ready to head down.
"But I want to meet my new sister."
"He's already calling me his sister? Well, I guess one person is excited I'm here. Wonder what the other's think?" I thought.
"I know you do, but don't go barging up there. You'll probably scare her. She's only been here for two hours."
"I've been telling him that all day, he hasn't been listening." I hear a female's voice add. I could hear the eye roll in her voice.
"Come on Rose, this is Emmett were talking about." Another male's voice.
Rose. Rosalie. The image of the model blonde flashed in my mind.
"Don't worry I'm excited to me her too, Emmett. You'll meet her soon." Another female voice. Alice. Her face also popping in my mind.
"So, two out three children are excited. And maybe one who doesn't. Could be worse, I guess."
I debated on whether to go back to my room or just face it and go downstairs to where everyone is.
I looked back at my room and then to the bottom of the stairs. What I didn't expect was someone at the bottom of the steps. He didn't see me, he was still facing towards everyone else was. I froze in my place, just looking at the guy.
I couldn't really see the side of his face, his blonde hair covering it. Remembering Carlisle's words from earlier, I knew that this was Jasper.
A second later, he turned his face away from the other room, his eyes finding mine. Hazel meeting bright gold.
I took a quick breath in. His picture didn't do him any justice. He was even more attractive in person, holy shit.
"I swear to God, if this whole entire family is this attractive in person, I'm dead-ass going to disintegrate into fucking dust."
We kept eye contact with three seconds, but it felt a hell lot longer. He was the first to break it. He looked back at the room he just came from.
That's when I unfroze and quickly and quietly made my way back to my room. When I got there, I breathed out of my mouth, trying to calm some of my pounding heart.
I made my way to the glass wall, staring out into the forest, taking deep breaths to calm down. That was not the way I wanted to meet the others.
About five seconds later, a wave of calmness flowed through me. My heart slowing down. Never had I been able to calm down that fast, but I'll take what I can get right now
I heard a knock on my door. Turning around I saw Jasper in the doorway. His eyes shifting from either me, around the room, or at the floor.
I shifted from foot to foot, crossing and uncrossing my arms. I also kept switching from looking at him and around the room.
"Hello," he finally said. I raised my eyebrows up. I did not expect to hear a smooth Southern accent coming from his mouth.
Again with the other's voices, it was perfect.
"Hi," I replied quietly, taking a step towards my bed, where the box I was working on before Sara called sat.
"This is very awkward. What the fuck should I say?" I thought.
"I'm Jasper."
"Anna," I paused. "You can come in, you don't have to stay at the doorway." He nodded, stepping into the room, looking around. "It is your house too, it's yours first even," I thought to myself.
"Sorry if I scared you on the stairs," he looked at me quickly before looking away.
"Um, it's no problem. You didn't anyway, just surprised me. I was the one eavesdropping anyway, so I guess I kinda expected that."
He chuckled, my heart picking up at the sound. Never did I think I would a chuckle that sounded perfect, but here I was.
"At this point, I think I should just expect everything about this family to be fucking perfect."
"So I'm guessing you heard Emmett then?"
"Yup."
"Sorry about my brother. He's... well, he's Emmett. I sometimes like to say that he has the mentality of a five year old." Jasper rolled his eyes, but smiled at the thought.
"No need to apologize about it. I don't mind really. Plus, my cousin Darrian is the same way and they're 25 years old."
"Emmett's a handful sometimes, but he's great when he's actually quiet. Just takes awhile to get him to calm down." I nodded at Jasper's words.
I heard my phone buzz, so I grabbed it off the bed.
Darrian <3
Hey sweetie, just checking in. How's everything going?
It's going alright
Have you met the whole fam yet?
Just the parents. Other teens just came home. Technically talking to one now.
Oop, didn't mean to interrupt that.
I just wanted to see how everything was going.
I'll let you go now. ttyl, Annie!
It's fine, don't worry about it. Everything is fine right now. Talk to you later, Dar.
*Read at 2:17pm*
I turned off my phone before putting it in my back pocket. Looking up, Jasper was still there, looking around the room. I also looked around the room. If felt weird. All my stuff was in here, but it didn't really feel like mine. All my stuff may be in this new room, but it wasn't my old room. The one I was used to, which held so many memories.
This place held none. Yet.
"You done unpacking everything?" Jasper asked.
I shrugged. "Almost, just have a couple more boxes." I looked around again, before sighing. I was done with unpacking for now.
"Well, I've decided I'm done for now. Might as well get this meeting the rest of this family thing over with."
I started walking towards the door, giving Jasper one last look before leaving the room and heading downstairs.
I took a deep breath at the top of the stairs before making my decent. Turning my head to look at all the things on the wall, I saw Jasper a few steps behind me.
I stop at the bottom of the stairs, taking a deep breath to calm the last nerves in my body. A second later I felt that wave of calmness wash over me again. I was as ready as I wanted to.
Jasper walked past me, over to the living room I was in a couple of hours ago. He turned his head to look back at me before waving his hand over, letting me know to follow him to where the other people were.
I gave him a slight nod before making my way to the living room.
"Holy shit," I thought. That picture wasn't joking, the whole family could be fucking models. All of them were the most attractive looking people I've ever met.
And here I was, just a average looking person. Surrounded by a bunch of model looking people. Holy. Fucking. Shit.
"What the Hell is this family?" I thought loudly in my head.
As soon as that thought crossed my mind, the bronzed-haired one, Edward, who was the closest to me, looked over in my direction.
I smiled shyly before giving him a small wave.
He turned around, facing me.
"Hello, I'm Edward. It's nice to meet you."
"Again with the perfect voice." I thought.
"Anna. Nice to meet you too," I answered quietly.
Why the fuck was meeting these people so hard? I'm usually great with new people. What was so different now?
"Hi, I'm Alice!" The pixie like girl stood next to Edward, bright smile on her face.
"Hi," I smiled back.
"Is it alright if I give you a hug?" Alice asked.
"Um, yeah, sure," I nodded my head.
"Yay!" She exclaimed, before taking a step closer and wrapping her arms around me.
The first thing I felt when she hugged me was cold. Even through the layers of clothing she wore, I could feel the coldness. It was weird, but I didn't think too much of it. They did live in a cold place. Isn't surprising that she was cold to the touch.
However much Alice was cold, the hug was also warm. It felt nice to have someone to hug. Even though I'd gotten plenty of hugs over the past two weeks, this one felt different. It didn't feel like pity or sympathy.
"We're going to get along so well," Alice said as she pulled away. "All of us are going to get along so well." As she said those words, there was this glint in her eyes. Like this knowing glint that what she said was 110% going to happen.
I smiled at her words. I'd like that. For all of us to get along.
"And I'm Rosalie." Letting go of Alice, the model blonde was standing next to her, hand extended.
"Nice to meet you." I replied as I shook her hand. Weird greeting, but alright.
"Same here." She turned her gaze away from me and over to Emmett and Esme still talking.
I may have only been down here for a little longer than a minute but I so far I wasn't noticed by Emmett yet, we weren't that far away from each other. He was still talking with Esme.
It was cute watching them interact. I could tell how much Esme loved Emmett, just by how she was looking at him. The same could be said for Emmett as well.
Maybe one day I'd be like that with them as well. Probably will be a lot farther along the line.
"I apologize for anything Emmett does in the future. He can be a handful sometimes. He's like a child." Rosalie looked back at me quick.
"It's fine, my cousin Darrian is the same way and they're 25 years old." I repeated the same words I said to Jasper not even a couple minutes ago.
They all chuckled at that. And just like with Jasper, it sounded perfect.
I wonder if any part of them wasn't perfect, but I highly doubted that.
At the sound of laughter, Esme and Emmett stopped talking and turned to the rest of the teenagers.
When Emmett laid his eyes on me a big smile lit up his face. In two giant steps he was in front of me and suddenly my feet were off the ground and the room was spinning. Alarm flared quickly through me before I realized I was just getting a hug. A big, bone-crushing hug. I kinda expected that though.
And just like Alice's hug, the temperature was cold, very cold, but the feeling was warm. Like he actually wanted to hug me, not because he felt like he had to. It made just a little bit happier than I was.
"Emmett," I heard Jasper's voice call out in warning.
"It's fine, I'm fine," I managed to giggle out, but Emmett put me back on the ground.
The whole interaction lasted probably five seconds, ten seconds max.
Emmett gasped. "I made her laugh first! Yay! I win!" His voice boomed around the room, but it had a playful edge to it.
"I didn't know it was a competition," Rosalie rolled her eyes.
"Of course it is, babe." Emmett responded.
"Babe? Did he just call her babe?" I thought to myself. I shook the thought from my brain.
Rosalie rolled her eyes at Emmett, who was grinning from ear to ear.
"Are you done unpacking, dear?" Esme asked me.
"Almost, I have two or three more boxes, but I'm at least done for now." I answered and Esme at me. I smile back. There was no emotion behind it right now, but she didn't know that.
She turned to look back at her children. "Now, you five, I'm assuming you guys have homework. Go and do it now."
A chorus of "Yes, Ma'am" and "Yea, Mom/Mother" followed. Emmett groaned.
She smiled at her children as they left before turning to me. "About to school for you. Tomorrow we'll go down to the school, you're already registered, you just have to pick your classes. Then you'll start school on Monday. There is no sense in having you go in for one day and then it be the weekend. Sound like a plan?"
I nodded. "Yes, thank you."
"You are very much welcome, Anna."
She gave me a warm smile, which I returned, like I was already one of her children. Even though we've known each other for only three hours. I did't know how I felt about that.
As I made my way back the stairs, I let out a breath. I can check meeting the whole family off of the list. It actually went a lot better than I thought it would go. Hopefully it stayed that way.
