Work Text:
The night Kagami got home she felt like sobbing but she kept it in. She wouldn’t get all worked up over some boy who she broke up with, especially not in front of her mother. Adrien was a decent guy, he was famous, rich and, for the most part, a good person. But he was a liar.
She didn’t know what he was lying about but she knew one thing, she probably would never know it. She was grateful to at least be dating him, almost every girl in Paris liked him. Now they were probably screaming with joy because he was single again. He did seem perfect after all, never truly making a mistake.
Kagami knew he would never feel as strong as she did for him at the time. It was pretty obvious he loved Marinette, but she took advantage of the fact he didn’t notice it. Marinette, she was head over heels for him and Kagami’s only friend now that the whole Adrien thing happened. She honestly felt guilty about that. But this time Kagami knew that she, herself, was the loser of the game. The pain of losing rarely happened because of her high expectations and stubbornness but when it did, it was strong.
That morning the news had just broken out. Kagami at least went to a separate school than him. She would only see his face at fencing she assumed. She went to a private school in London for the rich and elite. She was the top of the class with straight A’s and all. As she walked in she felt everyone’s eyes on her. She saw Adrien’s cousin Felix smirking at her. She ignored them all and went to her classes. She took multiple courses, her only real competition at school was Felix who she managed to beat out almost every time. She hid her emotions, she knew they would only distract her from her studies.
The school day went by quickly. She ignored them all, she was always a loner. Few dared to even speak with her. They called her “The Ice Queen”. Even if it was false she couldn’t let that persona be shattered too. As she walked out to go take the train Felix approached her,
“Is Mrs. Ice Queen sad about her little break up? Hope she doesn’t get akumatized again,” He teased.
“Not sad enough to lose to you, Felix,”She replied back feeling annoyed.
“You sure? You seemed pretty crushed last night,” He smirked.
“Shut up,” She muttered.
“Make me,” He laughed. Kagami rolled her eyes and just ignored him as she waited for the train. Soon she went on, finally alone time from him. She put in her airpods and put on some music. She went to spotify and shuffled her playlist. By the time she got back she saw Adrien, Marinette, that girl Marinette said was Alya, and some guy with headphones just getting out of school. Kagami’s school started and ended earlier than theirs. She overheard them talking about her and Adrien’s breakup.
“That sucks what happened to you last night dude,” Headphones told Adrien.
“It doesn’t really matter honestly,Nino,” Adrien responded.
“I don’t know man, she does kind of seem like a pretty bad guy for this one dude. I mean getting akumatized and then breaking up with you?” Nino said. Marinette elbowed him. He looked at her, seeming confused.
“Don’t talk about my friend like that Nino! She probably had a reason to do it,” The pigtailed girl said defensively. Kagami slightly smiled about her only friend standing up about her like that. But her face fell after remembering what Adrien said. What had wrecked her emotions didn’t matter to him? As the four turned her away, she quickly walked away. She knew Adrien was as committed but she thought he would at least care. She didn’t expect him to be crying or all emotional, but was a little pain too much to ask? He looked completely fine like nothing even happened, not even a little frown came up on his face when talking about her. She went to an alleyway and just sat there. She didn’t feel like going home to her mothers crazy expectations. She just wanted to be alone. She felt like a water main, burst and flooding. He always kept up his perfect persona just like her cold one. But she let it out for him, he kept it on all the time. Just then she spotted a butterfly in the distance. An akuma! She pulled herself together, she couldn’t fail and get akumatized once again. She stayed where she was and thought positive things, like the look on Felix's face when she would beat him again.
About 5 minutes later, Ladybug showed up with the dragon miraculous. Kagami gladly accepted it. Maybe a distraction would be all she needed. Mr. Pigeon was back at it again, but defeated easily. As Kagai reached to give her miraculous back, Ladybug told her to wait. She then explained that Shadowmoth was getting stronger by the day, they needed new permanent heroes. He knew her identity so they couldn't use Ryuko permanently, but Kagami was good hero material. She would be the new holder of the bee miraculous. Kagami of course accepted. Ryuko was no more, she was Mitsubachi. The holder of the bee miraculous.
Months flew by, she was a permanent holder, along with the new fox holder, a boy named Vulpin and a new turtle holder, a girl by the name of Coquille. No new holders were needed and Shadow Moth was close to being defeated. She had pretty much moved on from Adrien but something in her kept her from fully doing so. Sooner or later they had defeated Shadow Moth and he was found out as Gabriel Agreste. That night the group had revealed identities to each other. Like she had suspected, Marinette's friend Alya was Coquille and Nino was Vulpin. She then de-transformed, Alya and Nino were shocked but Chat Noir didn’t look very phased, Ladybug probably told him about the identities of the permanent heroes. Then what they had all been waiting for, Ladybug de-transformed. She was Marinette? It all made sense now, why Ladybug had known to give her the miraculous and all. Honestly, Kagami was surprised she didn’t realize it sooner. They did look a lot alike. Probably some effect of the miraculous she assumed. Then finally Chat Noir transformed back. To everyone’s shock he was Adrien. Pain struck her, Adrien as Chat Noir had been flirting with Ladybug the whole time they were together? She looked at him in disbelief and he sent a guilty expression. Though it did make sense with how often he had left her. Always during an akuma. Adrien and Marinette just stared at each other, turning redder by the second. Nino looked like he was about to faint and Alya was just fangirling in shock.
“My best friend is Ladybug? How did I not realize this sooner?” Kagami heard Alya faintly mumble. Adrien was the first to actually speak.
“Marinette, I-I’m sorry. I was a blind fool, should have known that you liked Luka.” He said quietly and turned to leave.
“Wait! I don’t like him, we’re just friends now. The reason I rejected you as Chat Noir was, well because I was in love with you as Adrien.” She confessed. He said nothing but pulled her in and kissed her.
Between the next few days, they started secretly dating. And Kagami couldn’t be happier for them. Adrien was finally free to be himself and Marinette was living her dream. As for Kagami? She finally fully moved on. She was ready for a relationship where she wasn’t the only heartbreaker.
