Notes:

This is the first ever story I post here, so please feel free to tell me if you see anything I should change or that I should keep an eye on while writing. Also I apologize for my gramma, I am not a native to the english language and even with someone reading over it there can be mistakes.

Also this story is made by me and a friend that I will tag as the Co-Creator as soon as they have an account on here.

Another thing, the beginning of this story will feel similar to Handplates and XTale, we know that, we didn't intend this to happen, but after going through our ideas and mushing them together we realized that ourselves. Please check out the actual Handplates and XTale stories, they are really good and deserve to be appreciated.

Okay now I will let you go for the first, chapter of hopefully many in this story. Don't expect too much from it and please excuse if they aren't too long at the start.

I hope you will like it ^^

Chapter 1: It started with a plan

Chapter Text

It was a wasted space. This AU was forgotten, abandoned by it’s creator and the moment this universe started to fall apart the characters that belonged to it escaped into the Omegaverse. This left the AU to fall apart. Some of the places are still there, ruined but existing.

Now this space would be it? At least this dying AU wouldn’t be watched too closely by Ink, so they would be not disturbed here. At least that what Nightmare hopes. ..how ironic, HE out of all people, had hopes.

“So are you sure this is the right place for this?” the gooey Sans asked his taller companion, still looking around the white space between the ruins.

“Yes, very sure” came the answer from the high figure next to him, who was still facing away in the other direction.

Nightmare watched him for a few seconds with narrowed eyes. “And you are sure you can do this?” he just needed reassurance. This was a difficult task after all. Not entirely impossible, especially for a guy like him, but still difficult.

“Was that ever to doubt?” he received the cold answer. That guy could even sent a being of nightmares shivers down the spine by only saying something simple as that. He really wasn’t something to mess with. “Just bring me the needed ingredients and I will take care of the rest.”

Even if the bigger one wasn’t watching, the only answer Nightmare gave him was to nod before he turned around. The next moment he opened a portal and only glanced back for a split second. The view he had was XGaster standing in this half void of a dying AU staring into the different direction so he couldn’t see his face. No chance of getting a glimpse of what he was thinking about. Nightmare himself had a few thoughts tho. One of them being, if it really was a good idea to work with XGaster on this project. Even if it wasn’t he couldn’t back out of it anymore now. With this thought very present in his head he left through the portal and left the thinking Gaster alone.

-------

After getting the ‘ingredients’ they needed, which took a lot of time and accurate planning, Nightmare returned to the AU XGaster chose for their plan.

Walking through the portal, he did already expect to see something changed, since the environment itself didn’t seem fitting for what was to come. What he saw tho, was far beyond what he could imagine.

The half vanished and ruined AU he left, wasn’t recognizable anymore. The white space that was in between the few still existing places wasn’t no more. The world was fully rebuild. He was now standing on a big flower field, in the distance he could manage to see trees, as if this field was surrounded by a large forest. Only one direction gave the view to a larger lake, closer than the trees. But the most impressing thing that was to be seen was towering in the middle of the giant filed.

Nightmare was standing in front of a big building. It looks like a mixture of a medical facility of older times with the impressive structure of a mansion. It wasn’t a building you could view fully by standing in front of it. You would need to walk around it to get a good impression of it’s outside and yet it would still not say anything about how it was built inside.

The gooey skeleton didn’t know how long he was standing there, just starring at the building impressed by its look. But he only snapped out of it because he could hear his companion in this journey talking from the side.

“I did my best to find an environment that provides what we need for our little project.” the slender skeleton said without even greeting the smaller one. He again also didn’t look at him, but at his own creation. “I assume you have what we need?”

Again there was a nod as an answer from Nightmare before he handed three small jars, that he could easily hide in his hand to the taller one. “It was tricky, but after all I did it still. I didn’t know that the silent one would be the most difficult out of the three to get to. However, how fast do you think you can do this?”

XGaster placed a hand at his chin, taking one of the small glass containers into his other hand and inspecting it’s content. He took his time with answering and just left the dark one hanging in the silence for a bit. But eventually he looked down to him and gave him a little grin that was full of self confidence. “It won’t take much time to create them. But it will take time to study them. I won’t create them into a fully finished body, I want the magic to form the body by itself. I will just provide what is needed for that.” With these words he took the other containers out of Nightmares hands and gestured him to follow while he walked inside of the building.

Inside there were long hallways that led to a variety of rooms. The rooms that are directed at the outside wall had a good view of the flower field around. The other rooms, placed on the other side of the hallways had also a view to the outside. But it was not the flower field or the woods around that was seen from the windows there. You could see into the biggest part of the building. A garden in the middle of it, as if the whole thing was build around it. But Nightmare wasn’t able to get a good look at it tho, since he was guided by Gaster further inside. In fact they took a staircase into the basement that was divided in only a few big rooms. The biggest of them containing two big glass tubes filled with a greenish, slightly glowing liquid. It was still transparent like water, but it had a green glow and looked like it was a little thicker. The rest of the rooms was filled by a bunch of technical devices Nightmare didn’t understand and he also wouldn’t try to. This was Gasters territory and he didn’t want to interfere with it.

The slender skeleton walked over to a desk where he placed Nightmares small containers on. He seemed that he didn’t do it in a random manner either. On the left side it was the container with a blue and black mist that sometimes was interrupted by a red swirl. On the right side it was the one with the color-changing liquid, that couldn’t decide if it wanted to stay liquid, become gas or a firm block. And in the middle he placed the container with the substance that Nightmare would explain like a storm of forms and shapes, most to be seen were stars in different colors. He looked at the ‘ingredients’ one more time, before his eyes locked onto Gaster again, who know had his well-known Overwrite button floating underneath his hand. Before he knew it, the taller one pressed it and the next thing the greenish black skeleton knew was that there now were only two containers on the table. The content of the left one representing most of the one before, just now the red swirls formed into red stars floating around in the mist. The other still contained the color-changing liquid, but there also was a little change, whenever it turned into a hard object, it wasn’t just a block anymore, but took different shapes. Here also it were mostly star shapes.

Gaster now took these containers and placed them into the openings in the base of each of the glass tubes. The contents got sucked out of the containers and now spread into the liquid. It was showing for a while, before seemingly vanishing inside of it.

“Now we wait” XGaster announced and watched the tubes for a bit. Then he looked at his small partner and studied him for a bit. “I will let you know when there will be changes worth mentioning. But I guess you will still check in on how everything is going?”

Nightmare shrugged shortly and was now the one looking at the liquid in the tubes “maybe in the early states, but I think when they’re old enough to remember, you should be the most present one for them.” he declared and moved towards the stairs. “If you excuse me, I have some other things to handle.” And with that he left the little lab in the basement and went back into his castle. Now the real test would begin. One part of it being, how long they can stay unnoticed.
