Work Text:
"Actually, I play the piano." Karen said with sparkling eyes. "Kind of, sixth grade, I was the main attraction at the talent show in elementary."
"you do?" Matt said. he and foggy didn't know that, they didn't know much about Karen's childhood, or her past in general.
"Of course." she said confidently eating her salad "I could play but there is no piano here."
"What a pity." said foggy distantly, thoughtfully.
. . . . . . . . . .
The doorbell rang, Karen opened the door to find a package guy on the other side.
"Hey miss, we have a piano for this address and we need a signature." the guy said, handing a confused Karen a clipboard and pen.
"That is for me!" said foggy excitedly taking the papers from Karen's hands "could you bring it here?" He asked the guy once he gave him the signed paper.
The guy just nodded and with another parcel man they brought an elegant black piano into the small office. It fit but it greatly reduced its space.
As if by divine Matt arrived at work, late as usual once the shipping workers were leaving, almost meeting at the door.
"What is that?" Matt said asking about the piano that was a big lump in his office that made it hard to walk around.
"A piano!" replied foggy excitedly, like a child at Christmas.
"But why." Karen questioned, confused as was Matt.
"And with what money, we can't even buy coffee." Matt had a worried look on his face, but inside of him he was also excited about it.
"It's my sister-in-law's piano. I convinced her to give it to me to give it to me and and I told him to send it to the office, she was happy to get rid of this thing. Later I'll have to take it home and learn to play or something. Meanwhile Karen can give us a demo." he said while playing some keys.
"aggressive but sure. I just-" Karen sat on the padded bench and started playing a piano solo from Swan Lake. It sounded so calm and peaceful. Foggy grabbed Matt around the waist, dragging him along. Matt quickly understood what was going on and grabbed Foggy by his shoulder and followed him in his little dance around the room. Karen laughed and played as they kept dancing.
"Don't worry Karen. Once I'm done with Matty here, you'll follow." Foggy said looking at Karen, They continued with their little game until Karen's solo ended, then Foggy went over and grabbed her shoulder." Would you give me this piece?
"Wait, who's going to play?" she asked.
"It's my turn." Matt replied, loosening his tie. He sat down on the piano and began to play the scientist from Coldplay. "I may have practiced a little in my life too. I will not clarify if it was before or after the blindness." He smiled self-sufficiently while Foggy and Karen began to dance the typical waltz. Matt missed a few notes but didn't stop until the song was over.
"I didn't know you could play, puppy." Foggy kissed Matt's cheek." Is there anything else you can do?"
"A lot foggs, some are secret and others should be done in private but if you get me a guitar I can play songs as beautiful as you." said Matt kissing his lips.
"Cute but how would you know I'm beautiful? you've never seen me." the questioning made Karen laugh, who sat down to play again.
That whole afternoon they didn't work. Between Karen and Matt they took turns playing while Foggy danced with the other, until at one point both began to teach Foggy to play the piano and while he played it very badly Karen and Matt danced. That afternoon was the best Matt can remember, it didn't feel real and he wished that his life would stay like this forever.
