Work Text:

Easter Bunny Easter Bunny, full of sweets,

Please give us some so we can be complete.

Beaster Bunny Beaster Bunny, full of discord,

You will not quit until the final point is scored.

Easter Bunny Easter Bunny, trails happiness through and through,

It will never be enough to make you spew.

Beaster Bunny Beaster Bunny, splatters blood and lies,

You will never see the sun again in your crying eyes.

“Dennis! I know this means a lot to you…but are you sure it’s gonna work?”

“What are you talking about Winnie? This is a foolproof plan!”

Dennis was pointing at his whiteboard with his pointer on a stick, the words ‘How To See The Easter Bunny’.

“I know I know, but what if we get caught?”

“That’s the thing! We won’t!

Winnie scoffed and crossed her arms, shifting her weight onto her left foot, “How can you be so sure?”

They trot downstairs to see decorations scattered about, the zombie staff doing their best to put up streamers and banners without falling apart. They zipped through the crowds to see Mavis tapping her chin with a pen as she studied a clipboard. She took notice of them coming up to her and beamed.

“Oh Dennis! I was wondering where you’ve been!”

She made the clipboard hover in the air in a puff of purple magic and poked the pen behind her ear before picking him up. Although he was seven years old, she still picked him up with ease.

“Winnie and I are going to see the Easter bunny tomorrow!”

“Really? That sounds…difficult to achieve.”

“It may, but I think with my master plan it’ll be a breeze.”

“Uh huh. Well I wish you well on your bunny hunting endeavors then.” She placed him back on the floor, not wanting to break his heart with any false promises.

The dawn before Easter was approaching, and the monsters were slithering back to their resting places, as the majority were classified as nocturnal. Dennis and Winnie were ready to place their plan into action, pushing a few couches together in a corner, some snacks, and some cushions to keep themselves comfortable during the wait. Winnie peeked over the top of the couch before ducking back down to see Dennis already munching on the chips they had stashed.

“Dennis! We haven’t even started yet!!” She scolded in a harsh whisper. He glanced at her with a full mouth before chewing and swallowing.

“What? I’m hungry!”

They bickered quietly until they felt a new presence in the room. Although the presence felt more grand than a normal being. They hesitantly popped the tops of their heads over the couch to see the one and only Easter Bunny. Or so they thought.

The bunny was strolling through the lobby, a basket in its paws that vaguely resembled hands. It stopped by a fireplace and pulled out two multi-colored eggs before placing them on the mantle. It continued around the vast room, hiding eggs in every nook and cranny, hopping sometimes to put them in harder to reach places. Dennis and Winnie didn’t know what to do other than to watch the legendary creature do its work, wanting to come out and say something, but not sure if it would startle such a beast. It eventually found its basket empty, and so it headed off to the closest room to it and went inside, but left the door open.

“…Does it know that’s a closet?” Dennis whispered to Winnie, her doing a subconscious shrug in response. They stealthily crawled out from behind their fortress of couches and chairs, dawdling over to the room. Colors were now streaming out of the room, which curved their curiosity even more. Upon looking into the room, the bunny had summoned a portal. A vortex of swirling colors and even some sparkles. It was hypnotizing to look at. The bunny stepped in and vanished through it.

“…Should we?”

“I mean…this could be our only chance…”

They chattered quietly, ultimately deciding to follow the bunny to wherever it was going. They reached their arms inside, seeing it was safe, before stepping in entirely.

8:15 AM, I think this is the latest I’ve ever done a jog before…

Ericka was thinking to herself as she popped earbuds into her ears, stepping out of the room. She preferred to do her daily jogs when nobody was around, so that usually meant she did them right before she went to bed. She kept a steady pace during her laps around the hotel, only slowing down when she was crossing the lobby. She saw a few eggs sticking out from couches and fireplaces.

Huh…I wonder if Dennis and Winnie are still down here

She looked around until she saw the small fortress built up in the corner of the lobby, creeping up to it.

“Hey guys did you see the-“ She was about to ask if they had seen the eggs all around the lobby, but was confused when she didn’t see them in their hideout.

Maybe they went to bed already? No…I would have passed by them in the hallway…

“Dennis? Winnie? Are you down here?” She called their names, hoping that they’d respond, but only silence greeted her.  Her face became concerned as she scouted around the lobby more frantically, hoping to find them asleep somewhere, when she found the closet door open with a mysterious light pouring out from inside. “…Guys?” She poked her head around the doorway, and saw the portal still open and swirling with the hypnotizing blur of colors.

Dennis and Winnie are missing…the eggs are already here…and there’s a mysterious portal just sitting here…I can’t believe I’m about to say this but…I think the Easter Bunny kidnapped them.

It didn’t sound real to her, but the situation was more than a realization. She hopped away from the portal and sprinted up the stairs to tell Mavis about the situation.

The portal felt more like a doorway to Dennis and Winnie, as they stepped through and passed into a whole new world in a brief second. They took in the new surroundings, which looked like a normal forest, except the plants seemed oddly colored. More vibrant and alive than the ones back home. They looked up at the dark sky and saw that multiple mysterious planets were visible close by.

“I…Don’t think we’re on earth anymore…” Winnie mustered out through her astonishment.

“Y-Yeah…definitely not-“ Dennis also expressed his amazement, before remembering their objective, “-hey, where’d the bunny go?”

“Are you talking about me, youngin?”

A surprisingly masculine voice asked, the same rabbit from before walking out from the woods, making Dennis and Winnie gawk.

“You’re the…the Eas-“

“I’m NOT the Easter Bunny!” It snapped at them, making them flinch back. It corrected itself and smoothed its fur out while clearing its throat, “I um…he’s my brother. My name is Beaster, actually.”

He held out his paw for them to shake it, and Dennis shook it hesitantly.

“It’s nice to meet you…sir.”

“Hm, quite fitting,” Beaster looked amused for a moment, “now that we’re all acquainted, my brother should be expecting me back at the palace right about now so I should be goi-“

He started trailing off in another direction, when Winnie called out to him.

“Wait!! Can we come with you?”

He froze and turned to look at them, before silently scoffing, “Hm, why not? Tag along then.” He walked off into the woods and they scrambled after him.

“Mavis!! Mavis wake up!!” Ericka knocked quickly on the door to Mavis and Johnny’s room, whispering harshly. She heard a groan from inside the room, before shuffling footsteps approached. Mavis creaked the door open and her tired face showed, still looking half asleep.

“What is it?” Mavis mumbled, rubbing her eye before seeing what Ericka was wearing, “…and what are you wearing?”

Ericka glanced down at her adventure outfit that she half hazardously threw on before rushing over to Mavis’s room, “It’s my ass kicking outfit, anyway, THE EASTER BUNNY KIDNAPPED DENNIS AND WINNIE!!” She continued speaking in a hushed tone, but Mavis just blinked slowly.

“…Are you okay? Did you drink too much coffee before bed?”

“What?? No! I’m being serious! Come on, I'll show you!!”

Ericka grabbed her wrist and dragged her down the hallway, snapping her fingers and changing into her normal attire while dragging her feet on the ground. Ericka took her to the lobby and aggressively showed her that they weren’t in their hideout, that there were eggs scattered all around the lobby, and that there was a magic portal sitting in the closet. Seeing the sight of a magic portal made Mavis finally wake up.

 “You…weren't lying.”

“What? Did you think I was ? Psh…I’m not your father.” With her reply she approached the portal and poked her finger through it, then her hand, and then her entire arm before stepping completely inside. Mavis followed in close pursuit, seeing her pull something out of the holster that was resting on her hip.

When Mavis breached the other side, she immediately saw Ericka scouting the area with a pistol in her hands.

“Wh-Where did you get a GUN?” Mavis demanded, running up behind her.

“I always have it with me.” Ericka replied, keeping a sharp eye out in the surroundings as she continued forward, sweeping the environment with her watchful glare.

“ALWAYS? WHY? DO YOU EVEN HAVE A LICENSE FOR THAT?”

“You never know what’s out there, and no, I don’t have a license. I’ve been trained to handle firearms since I was five .”

“Easter! You home?”

Beaster walked through the doors to their family palace, Dennis and Winnie trailing behind him and gawking at the beauty. “Easter?” He continued to call, seeing a small feral rabbit hop up to him from the side with a small tuxedo on. He tossed his empty basket over to the rabbit and it landed on top of it, but it slowly started dragging the basket away from underneath as Beaster continued to call for his brother.

“You’re back so soon! I thought it would take you longer to cover the entire eastern hemisphere!”

Easter had shown himself at the top of the grand stairs before trotting down, approaching them with a cheerful demeanor.

“Well I’ve been working on my efficiency recently-“

“Beaster?”

Easter finally saw Dennis and Winnie standing silently behind Beaster, not even sure how to process what they were witnessing. Beaster noticed him staring behind him at the kids.

“Ah, right. I’d like you to meet my new acquaintances I met at my last destination.”

“BEASTER! you can’t just take kids from their homes!!”

“I didn’t take them, they followed me.” Beaster replied with a smug face, making Easter scowl.

“Their parents are probably looking for them!”

“Doubtful. It’ll be a few hours until they even notice they’re gone.”

His seemingly completely void replies made Easter fume at his brother, pulling him aside so Dennis and Winnie couldn’t hear their conversation, making them think they were free to roam the palace.

“This is unacceptable behavior! You need to take them back home!”

“I don’t have to do ANYTHING! You know why I brought them here.”

“I do, Beaster. But…children? Really?”

“They’re the only thing that can sustain me…I need this.”

“P-Please, can’t we find something else? Maybe I can find a cow or-“

“NOTHING ELSE IS GOING TO WORK!…And you should know that.”

Easter’s ears drooped and he glanced over at where Dennis and Winnie used to be standing, but felt mild panic seeing that they had wandered off somewhere in the palace. He whipped his head back over to Beaster and saw him glaring back. Without saying anything, Beaster suddenly tackled him to the ground and slammed his fists into his face numerous times, trying to decommission him. Easter tried to fight back, but Beaster had the upper hand. He soon jumped off of him and bounded down the nearest hallway to him, desperate to find the kids before Easter did.

Easter sputtered out a cough, blood dripping from his mouth onto the cream colored fur that covered his chin. He sat up and struggled to stand on his feet, racing down the same hallway Beaster ran down moments before.

“Are you seriously about to walk into this random mansion??”

Mavis was questioning Ericka as she was lockpicking the door, mumbling around the pistol she put in her mouth while her hands were occupied.

“It’s literally the only house out here, the kids have to be inside.”

She popped the lock and hesitantly peeked inside, Mavis right behind her. She took the gun in her hands again and stepped inside.

She and Mavis scouted around the main room, and after finding a small, orange, curly hair, they knew that the kids had been there. But they weren’t exactly sure where they were.

“Did you hear what they were talking about?”

“I did. I don’t think we should have followed Beaster here…”

“I-It’s going to be alright, we’ll find our way out of here, find the portal, and get home like nothing ever happened!”

“That’s wishful thinking, young one.”

Beaster’s voice called from behind them, but he sounded different. They turned their heads to see him approaching them from the other end of the hallway. His fur was molting black as his small tail was growing out into a longer, furless whip. His small flat teeth had molded themselves into ridged fangs, the transformation causing his gums to flush red and bleed.

They did not hesitate to start running, but Beaster just laughed and began to sprint over to them. To Dennis and Winnie’s dismay, the hallway was a dead end. They skidded to a stop at the wall and started clawing at it, screaming for someone to help them. They waited for the monster to claw them from behind and behead them, but instead they heard Easter scream at him and tackle him into a nearby room. The kids looked at each other before booking it down another hallway, still begging for someone to help them.

“DAMMIT EASTER I HAD THEM!!”

Beaster snarled at his brother, shoving him off with impeccable strength, his previous fluffy and posh demeanor no more.

“I-…I can’t let you hurt them! Th-…They’re kids!!”

Easter hobbled back onto his legs and stood his ground, making Beaster growl in annoyance.

“You know brother …you created me…you know what happens when I don’t get my fill…”

“I do…but I won’t let you use them.”

“…Fine…”

Beastar growled a response while trudging up to Easter. He didn’t budge in Beaster’s intimidating shadow as Beaster used one of his scabbed up clawed hands to creep around his neck. Easter struggled slightly, but it didn’t seem like he was really trying to escape.

“You’ll have to do instead…”

His grip swelled on Easter’s neck, feeling his paws starting to jab at his hands as he constricted on him. Beaster saw his eyes starting to bulge and his mouth dry coughing and sputtering while his chin was stained scarlet from his previous bleeding mouth.

“Dennis? Winnie?” Mavis called their names as she and Ericka wandered the hallways of the palace.

“I don’t think calling their names is really helping, Mavis.” Ericka grumbled while she peeked around a corner, soon progressing down it.

“Well what else are we supposed to do?!”

Maybe we could- AAH!”

One of the small bunny servants had hopped into the hallway and startled Ericka from her sentence, making her stumble the pistol back into her hands and point it at the bunny.

“O-Oh…it’s just a little bunny…” She pointed the gun down and looked away in embarrassment, before seeing the bunny’s ears perk up. It looked down the hallway for a second before sprinting in the direction they had just come from. Ericka and Mavis glanced uncertainty at each other, getting defensive until they heard Dennis and Winnie’s cries for help, slowly getting louder.

“DENNIS! WINNIE! WE’RE COMING!!” They both shouted coincidently at the same time, Ericka putting the gun back into her holster as they sprinted in the direction of the kids.

They swiftly turned a corner and saw Dennis and Winnie absolutely booking it in their direction, their faces hinting slight joy seeing that they had come to their rescue.

“MOMMY!!! MAMA ERICKA!!!”

“MAVIS!! ERICKA!!”

The kids both cried their appreciations simultaneously through their sobs as they ran into their arms, weeping about how they followed who they thought was the Easter bunny, but it was really Beaster and how he had just become a monster.

“Woah woah woah, what are you talking about?” Ericka tried to make sense of what Winnie was blubbering, when a tremor rumbled through the ground. A large crashing noise sounded far down a few hallways, with heavy footsteps approaching them rapidly. Mavis and Ericka backed up a few hesitant steps, Ericka resting a hand on the pistol and flipping the safety off while shifting Winnie onto her upper back, wrapping her paws around her neck to support herself.

Beaster crashed through the wall at the end of the hallway, seemingly having grown even bigger. His arms let his clawed hands drag on the ground, leaving a spotty, dim red trail, licking his serpent like tongue over his blood soaked face while stomping towards them,

“Fresh blood…”

He droned demonically, his voice seemingly echoing on its own in multi toned layers.

Mavis did not take a second to think before sprinting as fast as she could out of there with Dennis slung over her shoulder, Ericka taking a little bit longer to actually process what was going on.

“HOLY SHIT!!”

She screamed and instinctively lifted the pistol to take shots at it before running. The sharp sounds of the bullets being shot at Beaster cutting through the air. They pierced his flesh flawlessly, but he barely even flinched. The gun quickly ran out of bullets and she fled from the beast, shoving the gun back into her holster which was a lot harder than she anticipated.

The chase didn’t last long, reaching the main entrance within a few minutes, Beaster still screeching as he galloped through the halls after them, crashing through a wall occasionally as well. They skittered out the front door and slammed it shut behind them, not taking a second to stop for breath. After dashing through the woods for a minute, and when they could no longer hear the demonic roars, they slowed down, Ericka gasping for air.

“Wh-…What the FUCK was that thing??”

Dennis and Winnie explain everything that they knew about the situation on their way back to the portal. It was starting to destabilize so they had to rush through it before it closed on them. They popped through it right as it shimmered out of existence. Although where they ended up was far from what used to be there. Instead of reappearing in the closet, they were in the middle of some thick vegetation, with trees growing scattered about.

“S-Shouldn’t we be in a closet right now?” Mavis was concerned about their current location.

“Yeah…” Ericka shifted her eyes around before taking the lead, not even sure where she was going, but the area felt familiar, almost feeling like something should be there. Mavis followed her soon after, Dennis and Winnie almost paralyzed from what they witnessed with Beaster. They walked until they came to a sheer drop off, water surrounding the base of the island, thick forests and mountains surrounding them, similar to a natural barricade from the outside world.

“Mavis…I…I don’t think the hotel exists .”

Notes:

So Uhh this was just a short story I created for an Easter contest! I made it in about five days and yeah that’s about all I have to say.

Hope you like it lol.

Also I didn’t come up with the name “beaster” that was a pun my friend made and I turned into into a character lol.
