Foxes and Goddesses

Summary:

“Miko.” Raiden growls as she feels hands start to play with the back of her hoodie. “You had better not be doing what I think you’re doing…”

Notes:

I wanted to write a cute thing and put a KAhri cameo in an EiMiko fic and we ended up here.

Work Text:

“Miko.” Raiden growls as she feels hands start to play with the back of her hoodie. “You had better not be doing what I think you’re doing…”
“What’s that?” A pair of soft lips press to the nape of her neck and Raiden relaxes marginally, still wary as she softens her posture and goes back to eating her cereal.
“You’re never this clingy without a reason.” Raiden grunts, nonetheless shifting in her seat to make room for her fox to sit next to her. “Do you just want to steal some of my breakfast?”

“If you’re offering?” Miko opens her mouth wide, giving Raiden a cute view of her reduced fangs. “Yesh please.”
“I wasn’t.” Raiden dead-pans, lifting her spoon up to her wife’s mouth and feeding her some honey Cheerios regardless. “But if it wasn’t my breakfast, what was it?”
“I can’t just want to be close to my beautiful, sexy wife because I’m lonely?”
“No.” Raiden says flatly, feeding Miko another spoonful of her cereal anyway. “Either you’ve done something, or you’re planning to irritate me with fox hair.”
“I can be clingy in my human form too!” Miko protests, nuzzling her lips into Raiden’s neck and planting a kiss there.

“I cannot remember the last time you were clingy without being a fox.” Raiden’s free hand tangles in a strand of light pink hair. “Honestly I like it though.”
“I’m glad you like your own wife.” Miko snarks, nuzzling into Raiden’s neck and starting to purr. “By the way, I bought you a new book for your day off.”
“Thank you then darling.” Raiden favours her wife with a kiss. “What genre have you given me this week?”
“Cute romance.” Miko nuzzles her again. “I wanna cuddle while you read it.”

“Are you trying to send me a message?” Raiden eats the last mouthful and then hands the bowl to her wife so she can drink the milk.
“Whu muffage?” Miko asks, very carefully lapping up the milk as she struggles to get her fangs over the edge of the bowl, eyeing Raiden’s suddenly dopey expression out of the corner of her eye. “Babe?”
“You are so adorable.” Raiden whispers, pulling Miko into a gentle kiss.

“Mmmf!” Miko melts into the kiss after a second of surprised resistance, then she breaks away with a laugh. “Come on, Mrs. Electro Goddess. Time to enjoy your day off.”
“Why do I get the feeling that the enjoyment of my day off will involve lots of cuddling with a fox?” Raiden snarks, but allows herself to be pulled to her feet and shepherded through to the living room, where she’s gently pushed down onto the settee and a blanket is thrown on top of her that her wife quickly burrows under with purpose.

“At least you’re comfy.” Raiden sighs, before Miko’s form changes and some tiny little paws clamber up her chest as her now fox-shaped wife snuffles around her face.
“I was promised a book.” Raiden says, folding her arms obstinately.

Miko sits and cocks her head, then slowly and deliberately walks over her wife’s unamused face to hop onto the nearby coffee table, and returns with a romance novel held firmly in her jaws.
“Thank you Miko.” Raiden accepts her novella graciously, then shuffles back so that her hood hangs over the arm of the sofa. “Go on, I know what you wanted to do in the kitchen.”

A pink fox snout nuzzles her cheek in thanks, and then Miko’s tiny fox form is curled up snugly in the hood of her hoodie.
“The things I do.” Raiden murmurs, cracking open her new book.

A few hours later, she’s a fair way though, enjoying the oblivious lovers in the plot fumbling around each other, but finding it increasingly difficult to concentrate due to the loud foxy snoring coming from behind her head.
“Miko.” She hisses. “Miko, shush!”

The fox snoring continues and Raiden heaves a sigh, pulling out her phone and snapping an overhead picture.
Look at what I have to deal with… She posts in a DM entitled “Foxy-Women-Lover’s Support Group.” She snores. So badly. How can something so small make so much noise?
At least yours varies in size. Comes a quick response. Ahri stays one size, and I can’t just carry her around.
Raiden texts with a wry smile, taking in the included picture of Kai’sa drowning in gumiho tails.
It’s 11am in Korea. Kai’sa sends. I should have been up hours ago, there’s fox hair in my mouth, I can’t even reach my earbuds, if you haven’t heard from me in 3 days, please send a rescue team.
Will do. Raiden taps out and then drops her phone with a sigh.

“Why are you the way you are?” She mutters, not unkindly. Listening as foxy snores behind her snuffle into the fabric of her hood.
“Come on Miko.” She whispers, reaching back to steady the hood. “It’s time for my meditation."

She waits a minute, testing to see if Miko is genuinely asleep.
“Come on.” She rustles the hood. “I know you’re awake Miko.”

No response, and Raiden sighs.
“Fine.” She mutters to herself and the sleeping fox. “Guess you’re staying there then.”

That decided on, she checks her embarrassing fox ornament is secure, closes the blinds to darken the living room, and gently slows her breathing as she reaches into her power.

A single spark of brilliant lightning flashes along her arm as Raiden turns herself into a super-conductor. She relaxes into the flow of charged particles, settling into a levitating meditation position. Her concentration is broken when an almost comical snore comes from behind her and a band of electricity jumps from her hair piece to her ear-ring, but when Miko quiets down she ignores it, perfectly content to think about the day they met the other foxy couple.

“Miko, I expect you back here by the time it gets dark.”
“I know~.” A head of pink hair nuzzles under Raiden’s chin.
“Do you really?” Raiden raises an eyebrow and tightens her hug on her wife to communicate her message. “Because you never seem to be on time.”
“Foxes don’t wear watches.” MIko recites, form shifting before Raiden can respond. She pulls a figure eight around her wife’s legs, then sprints off into the fox park.

Raiden’s lips twist a fraction as she watches MIko bound off, then she makes her way to the café to enjoy a soothing warm drink. She pays for her tea and a small slice of a brownie, then settles at a corner table, and is about to start her book when a woman in a cap and hoodie pulls out a chair next to her.

“Excuse me,” she says, in strangely accented Japanese, “do you mind if I join you?”
“My pleasure.” Raiden says in English. “You’re from South Africa?”
“I…” The woman looks at her with unconcealed surprise. “How did you know?”
“The accent.” Raiden shrugs and turns the page. “Also, you’re going incognito by wearing your own merch.”
“Dammit Ahri.” the woman who can only be Kai’sa sighs and sinks into the chair. “‘Nobody will notice, it’s a perfect double bluff!’” She mimics; heaving a sigh. “Why do I ever listen?”
“If I had the answer to that question, I’d be better at it myself.” Raiden notes, wryly.

There’s a moment’s silence, and then the k-pop idol gives Raiden a shrewd glance.
“You know, I think I might have seen you before.”
“Oh really?” Ei bites the inside of her cheek. “Can’t think where.”
“No, I’d swear you were on TV.” Kai’sa narrows her eyes. “Some report on the weather.”
“Oh, I’m a weather girl.” Ei lies, immaculately.
“Really?” Kai’sa raises an eyebrow. “Not sure that’s where I’ve seen you.”
“It’s true.” Ei shrugs, but can’t resist. “After a manner of speaking, anyway.”
“Meaning?” Kai’sa sits back in her chair and takes a sip of tea.
“Well, I do have something to do with the weather.” Raiden sighs. “I’m responsible for a significant chunk of it.”

Outside of the world of her memory, Raiden relaxes further into her power, feeling the flow of charge that spiderwebs around the whole planet. Lightning rolls between her fingers, mimicked halfway across the world by dark clouds swollen with rainwater as the heavens open above England. She delves further into the feeling, finding the next storm, and the next, in every one Raiden nourishes a spark, turning it into a spike of electricity that connects sky and ground for the briefest second with a single brilliant spear.

A fox snout nuzzles at her cheek and Ei turns to her wife, quite literally in her element, a gentle smile tugging at her lips.
“Something wrong Miko?”

Lavender eyes focus as Raiden pulls her mortal body to the forefront of her perception again, only to immediately have to stifle a giggle at the sight of Miko, sitting in front of her as a normally sized fox, fur sticking every which way thanks to static electricity discharge, levelling a foxy glare at her.
“What?” Ei raises an eyebrow, and Miko huffs.
“You cuddled up to me while I was meditating, you knew to expect this.” Another glare, and Ei rolls her eyes as she gives up on her duties.
“This is like that time you rubbed yourself on the carpet and expected me to fix it.

With a small touch of magic, Miko as a human is standing in front of her again, her glare undercut by the fact that her hair is still all over the place and that she just about comes up to Raiden’s chin.
“You’re mean.” She grumbles.
“And you’re cute when you’re angy.” Ei pats her wife’s head and laughs when Miko swipes half-hearted at her.
“I’m not angry!” She huffs, folding her arms.
“No, angy.” Raiden corrects her, patting her wife’s head again. “It's angry, but cuter.”
“...have you been on the internet again?”

Raiden crosses her arms and levels a flat look at her wife.
“I’m allowed to go on the internet, I’m several thousand years old. I can look after myself.”
“Online safety is important, the elderly are more likely to fall for scams.” Miko teases, following up with a kiss and a giggle as a spark of electricity borne of irritation flashes from the crown of Ei’s head. “Oh, my wife is sparking, I think I’ll have to take her in for a service, electronics aren’t meant to spark.”
“I’m not electronic.” Ei grunts, but MIko ignores her with a smile.
“I might have gotten you wet, I wonder if my warranty covers water damage.”

“I will disintegrate you where you stand.” Raiden warns, allowing a bolt of lighting to conduct out of her wedding ring and through open space to one of the clips in her hair.
“That might have worked for the first hundred years.” Miko rolls her eyes and just kisses Raiden, ignoring the sting of stray electricity in between their lips.
“You’re so annoying.” Ei whispers as the contact breaks, embracing her fox anyway.
“You’re the one who married someone so annoying.” Miko points out, happily accepting the attention as they move back to the settee and settle down.
“Lack of options at the time.” Ei defelcts, closing her eyes.

Miko scoffs. “Oh please, you’d always choose me, I’m the best.”
“Well you definitely believe that, and confidence is attractive.”
“Exactly-”
“There is such a thing as too much confidence though.”
“You’re so mean, Ei.”
“I’m realistic.”

Miko sighs happily and lays her head down in the crook of her wife’s neck.
“I’m tired.”
“You spent all day asleep.” A half smile curves the words against the crown of her head and Miko grins.
“Relaxing properly takes a lot of effort, I need my beauty sleep.”
“No you don’t.”
“And now you’re being nice!” Miko shakes her head and snuggles closer. “Several millennia and you’re still a mystery to me.”

Raiden scoffs and kisses her head.
“Please, you had me figured out from day one.”
