Summary:

Kefka waits in the dungeon for Emperor Gestahl to free him so they can enact their plan

Work Text:

Kefka was currently hopping back and forth in his cell, humming a tune to himself. If he knew that Emperor Gestahl would throw him in a prison cell as part of the plan that Kefka himself came up with, he never would have brought it up. What was this genius idea of Kefka’s? Well, since the Returners had so kindly shown that Magicite is far more powerful than simply extracting magic from the Espers, they decided that they would wait until the Returners got Terra to bring the Espers right to them and then they could have all the Magicite they wanted!

But of course they had to gain the trust of the Returners first. Once again, it was Kefka’s idea to have the emperor declare a truce once the Espers had ravaged the city of Vector, and then the Returners would lead all the power right to them! Unfortunately for Kefka, for the whole truce thing to be convincing, he had to stay in this cell as Emperor Gestahl discussed peace with the Returners over a great feast. The Returners.. What a stupid name! Kefka had always known that King Edgar of Figaro was a member of the Returners, and he could have easily taken the girl by force from him! But he was feeling destructive that day and simply decided to set the castle on fire. Great solution, right? Wrong . The castle went under the sand

Kefka frowned, he didn’t like thinking of the few missions he’s failed. To cheer himself up he decided to think of the successful massacre of Doma Castle. His lips formed a twisted grin as he thought of the people realizing moments too late that all the water had been poisoned. The best part is that the lone survivor had a family who perished! After all, what fun is a genocide if there isn’t anybody left to carry the guilt of what happened? If only he hadn’t joined the Returners.

Kefka stopped humming as he heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Could it be the emperor coming to finally let him out of this wretched cell? He eagerly awaited his arrival, only to be met with disappointment when those awful Returners were the ones who stepped into the dungeon. He was met by glares from his favourite Magitek Knight Terra, the survivor of Doma’s poisoning, the king of Figaro, and his twin brother. Kefka glared back before quickly switching his expression to a manic smile.

“Oho, Returners? You’re not here to be all buddy-buddy with me like the emperor decided to be, right? I really wish he would just let me out of this cell already so I can take REVENGE! If only General Celes were here, she’d let me out of this cell without me even having to ask,” he let out a loud, overdramatic sigh.

Kefka obviously knew that there’s no way Celes would ever let him out of this prison, but it was fun seeing the flash of distrust on their faces. Really, how easy is it for him to get them to question Celes? Guess their bond isn’t that strong after all. He decided it would be entertaining to keep up this whole ‘Celes being a traitor’ charade. Besides, if there’s anything he likes almost as much as murder and destruction, it’s sowing seeds of distrust. And torture. You can never pass up a good torture opportunity.

“Lady Celes would never do such a thing for the likes of you,” the survivor from Doma was the first to break the silence.

Kefka rolled his eyes. “You’re quick to defend someone from the Empire. Well, formerly of the Empire as far as you know,” he could see the uncertainty in the Returners’ eyes, but quickly became bored of the same charade. “But it’s fine, I don’t need a key to escape this place anyways! I assure you that the next time we meet will be out of the cell,”

“We’re not going to be fooled by your tricks anymore Kefka, Emperor Gestahl wants peace, and that means keeping you locked up here,” the king of Figaro declared before leaving the dungeon, the other three following close behind.

Kefka let out a sigh of disappointment, it’s no wonder South Figaro was easily taken over when someone that stupid is their king. Well, hopefully those idiotic Returners will leave already so he can get out of this godforsaken cell.

A few hours later, Kefka heard footsteps coming towards the dungeon, and an imperial soldier holding a ring of keys walked in and cleared his throat. “Emperor Gestahl sent me to tell you that General Leo and the Returners have gathered the Espers in Thamasa. We already have aircraft ready to fly to the city,” they said, using the keys to unlock the cell.

Kefka practically bounced out of his cell, a sinister grin on his face as he thought about all the Magicite the emperor would be able to get his hands on. All the Magicite that he would be able to get his hands on.

“I can’t wait! The anticipation is nearly killing me.. Killing? Killing! Now that murder’s on my mind I’m in the mood to murder, and murder I shall!” Kefka laughed as he skipped up the stairs to where the emperor and the airships were waiting.

Of course Kefka wasn’t going to let Gestahl keep all the power for himself. The old fool had become another pawn in Kefka’s game a long time ago, and he’s almost outlived his usefulness. Kefka began humming as he thought about the various ways he could kill the emperor. He wasn’t too sure about what would happen in Thamasa, but he knew it was going to be fun .
