Chapter Text
Yawning, you rolled out of bed and started your morning routine. Y'know, the usual. Wake up, take a shower, brush your teeth, get dressed, eat, and work.
You worked for a famous company, one that makes toys for children. You were one of the head designers for the toys' appearance. Your job involved a lot of drawing, which is why you dedicated a room of your house to just that.
Setting down the pencil you were holding, you sighed. Today was just not your day for inspiration and you had a deadline for the character you were having artists' block with.
Closing your eyes, you took a deep breath, hoping to calm yourself from the stress. Just as you opened your eyes again, your phone buzzed with a text.

Chuckling a bit, you set your phone down next to you. Mari always didn't like people making fun of her texting style. Man, that brought you back. How nostalgic.
Wait a second. Mari said you have 15 minutes before she arrives...and you just wasted five of them thinking.
Spitting out some colourful words, you ran upstairs and jumped into the shower. After that, you hurried to your room and threw on a pair of jeans and a hoodie.
Just in time too, as the doorbell had rung.
Walking down the stairs, you opened the door for your friend. Mari's grey eyes narrowed at you suspiciously, "(Y/n)."
You gulped, intimidated by her icy gaze. "Y-yeah?" You cursed mentally at yourself for stuttering.
"Don't make fun of my grammar."
"Alright," you bowed your head, "I'm sorry."
Mari tilted her head, making her charcoal hair shift. "Good," clapping her hands, Mari's attitude did a full 180. "Anyway! I heard that there was a new store opening. It sells merch for various games and anime. I wanna check it out."
At those words, your eyes lit up. They might sell Undertale merch! Good quality merch is extremely hard to come by, very expensive, and snatched up quickly.
Undertale had always been something you enjoyed. Ever since its release in 2015 (and before that, even), you had fallen in love with its large cast of characters, the storyline and the endings. So when people started making AUs of it, you were stoked.
With a new mission in sight, you pulled Mari by the arm, "let's go, let's go."
She raised an eyebrow, "damn. You're really excited now, aren't you? Next time we go out, I'll just mention Undertale lol."
You stopped tugging your friend. "Did you seriously just say 'lol' out loud?" You asked incredulously.
"Yes, yes I did. Do not question me, my child." Mari took the lead, patting your head and grabbing your hand. She then began to drag you to her car. "Let's go!"
20 minutes and a coffee stop later, you both arrived at your destination. "Where should we go first?" You asked Mari, at a loss. You don't usually get out often.
"Hm...uh, well I do need some new clothes...we could stop at (insert a local clothing chain)," she said, looking around the mall.
"Sounds good to me," you shrug.
You and your friend had a mini fashion show in the store.
After that, the two of you walked along the length of the mall, window shopping and browsing. Seeing a place that sold boba, you tugged on Mari's sleeve. She turned her head and you pointed to the place, "can we stop there?"
"For boba? Y'know the answer's always gonna be yes for that," she cheerfully replied.
And so, you and your friend walked into the restaurant, looking to buy some bubble tea. You got what you ordered, payed and left.
Now you were sipping on (insert favourite flavour boba) and walking with Mari. The two of you were just wandering around the place, looking for something to do.
That's when you noticed it.
The store.
Grabbing Mari's attention, you pointed to the shop. "Is that the place you were talking about earlier? I don't remember it being there last time we met up..."
"Hm? Oh yeah! That is the place. I nearly forgot about it!" Laughing, the ravenette pushed you to the door of the place, chatting about the different anime merch they could have on sale.
A bell attached to the door rang as you walked inside. The atmosphere of the store was quite cosy. With a fireplace roaring, the yellow fairy lights and the heaps of merch, it's no wonder that you relaxed immediately.
Mari was having a field day. "Look at this, (Y/n)!" She then ran away, squealing with whatever she was holding.
You nodded, distracted with your own mission. You had spotted the crate when you walked in, but you weren't sure if you were seeing things right.
Digging around in it, you tried to find a good quality Sans plush. And low and behold, you found it. It was almost unfairly realistic, but still held a cartoony look. Picking it up, you turned it over in your hands. "You're coming home with me," you stated.
You were about to walk away, proud of what you had found when you noticed a splash of red in the pile of Sanses. Blinking, you reached down and pulled out a plush that looked like Underfell!Sans.
You didn't even know there was merch made of him (or…legal merch, anyway)!! There was no way you were passing up this opportunity. You pulled him out, curious on how he managed to get in the box. Shrugging, you went to leave again, before another splash of colour caught your attention.
Thinking that you couldn't have seen what you have just seen, you reached your hand in the crate -yet again- and pulled out an Underswap!Sans plush.
You blinked. It was just as realistic as the first two. In fact, now that you look, there was something creepy about it, but you can't place your finger on it.
Oh well. It's probably the lack of sleep...right?
Shaking off the bad feeling, you took the plushies to the checkout and set them down gently. The employee greeted you, "hullo! Just these three?"
You nodded.
"Alrighty! That'll be 130g."
You blinked. That cheap? You said as much to the employee.
He responded with, "Yeah, these three come together. That's why it's so affordable."
"Huh. Alright," you got out your wallet and paid the guy.
"Thanks for your business!" He called as you exit the store. You waited for Mari outside, not wanting to spend any more time in the weird store, even if the decorations were really beautiful and you loved them…
Sometime later, she came out...more like bursting out, now that you think about it. "HELLLO! I'm back, didja miss me? I betcha you did!" Mari's hands were full of bags. Looked like she splurged. Again.
"How much money did you spend..?" You asked, treading carefully.
"Oh, just a few hundred thousand gold or so."
You still couldn't get over how rich Mari was sometimes.
"R-right...I think it's time I head home."
The ravenette's face fell, "aw. Are you sure? Dont’cha want dinner?"
"Y-yeah. Sorry. I've had my fill of human interaction for the week. I also have a deadline." You apologised wholeheartedly.
"That's fine. We can hang out next week then," Mari replied cheerfully.
"Alright, see you then!"
"Mhm!"
And so, the two of you went your separate ways before you paused. "Wait...wasn't she my ride?"
