A Study on Tengu Biology

Summary:

“I generally avoid sweet foods, not that I have a strong aversion to them. Why? Well, sweet things put your mind and body at rest, so if I ever eat sweet things it's easy to... Ahem, essentially, I mustn't slack off and that's the end of it. No further questions on this topic!” –Kujou Sara

In which Yae Miko wonders what happens when Sara eats sweets, and Ei deals with the aftermath.

Notes:

Had this crazy thought when I read Sara's voiceline. Everything about tengus in this fic is my personal headcanon.

Work Text:

Yae Miko was sitting underneath the Sacred Sakura, bored out of her mind. She was anticipating Kujou Sara’s monthly visit to the shrine.

As someone with an unhealthy obsession with the number five, Kujou Sara, of course, visited the Grand Narukami Shrine on the fifth day of each month, which was today.

Usually, she would arrive no later than noon. Yet, the sun was close to setting, and the general was nowhere to be seen. Miko supposed that she could be occupied with important tasks to free up her morning to visit.

She was about to give up on waiting and head inside her living space, when she heard faint footsteps ascending the stairs. As luck would have it, it was Kujou Sara.

Unfortunately for the general, Miko decided that she would make her pay for making her wait, even if there was no pre-arranged appointment between the two.

Maybe she just wanted an excuse to play with her a bit.

So, nothing out of the ordinary.

“General Kujou.”

“Guuji Yae.”

Polite and professional as ever, she bowed to Miko, who couldn’t help but sigh in frustration. She was tired of how stiff Sara acted in front of her.

Despite the Guuji’s sometimes prickly attitude towards Sara, she didn’t dislike her. The general was capable, strong, and loved by many. There was no one else in Inazuma Miko trusted more—other than their archon, of course.

(That was debatable. For example, she wouldn’t trust Ei with cooking.)

“No need to be so formal. I don’t bite.”

Sara looked uncomfortable hearing that.

“Why don’t you join me for some tea?”

“Tea?”

“You made me wait for you, General. The least you could do is spend some time with me.”

Sara was confused by her words. As far as she knew, she hadn’t arranged a meeting with the Guuji.

Miko didn’t give her a chance to refuse her invitation and motioned for Sara to follow her into the building.

Sara waited in the tea room, while Miko retrieved snacks from the kitchen.

“Guuji Yae…”

Kujou Sara had a painful expression on her face when Miko set down the tray in front of them. There were various snacks being presented, like mochi, yokan, dango, and dorayaki. All of them were sweets.

The Guuji had heard that tengus weren’t fond of sweets, but she couldn’t recall exactly why. While the easier way to find her answer would be to browse through the vast collection of books in her library, it would be more fun to experiment with the general in front of her.

“Why aren’t you eating? Is something wrong with the snacks?” Miko asked, pretending not to know what was troubling her. Her hands continued to prepare the Genmaicha—even that was a sweet blend of tea.

“Sweets are not something I gravitate towards. They make me feel… Light. In a weird way.”

“How unfortunate. I had prepared them specifically for you, since you said you wanted to make something for Ei.”

“What do these have to do with Her Excellency?”

“These are her favorite foods. Can’t live without them.”

Sara was skeptical, but the Guuji didn’t have a reason to lie when it came to their archon. It also made sense that Ei would have a preference for certain sweets.

Little did she know, Miko was simply spewing bullshit. Ei’s favorite food was Sara’s Faith Eternal Egg Roll. It was made with love , Miko rolled her eyes when she heard that from her lovesick friend, not long after the two had, at long last, confirmed their relationship. She thought she was gonna wait another millennia or two with how dense they were.

“If I wish to make them, I will ask for the recipes. There is no need for me to eat them.”

“You agree that Ei deserves the best, yes?”

“Yes, of course.”

“How could you know what you made is the best, if you don’t know its taste?”

Sara fell hook, line, and sinker for her plan. The general was too serious for her own good. If Miko had better morals, she might have felt bad for tricking her.

“Please, dig in, General.”

The good news was that Yae Miko discovered what sweets did to tengus.

Another great idea for a new light novel… Miko mentally noted for the next Yae Publishing House meeting.

The bad news—for Sara, at least—was that she was drunk on sweets. Sweets for tengus were like alcohol for humans.

Since she had generally avoided sweets, her tolerance was frankly non-existent. She couldn’t even keep herself upright and had to lean on the wall behind her as she sat. Her face was flushed with a tint comparable to Miko’s hair color.

“Sara?” Miko tried calling out to her, but all she got was quiet whimpers from her, who now had her face on the table’s cool surface, hoping to relieve the heat of her body.

Taking advantage of Sara’s unawareness, Miko ran a hand through her hair and moved down to hold her chin. She pet her softly like she was a kitten. Sara pushed herself further into her hand, as if asking for more.

“How cute…”

The contrast between her normal personality and now only made Miko’s urge to play with her stronger.

“I promise I’ll send you back to Ei when I’ve had my fun with you.”

Miko took out the Kamera hidden in her sleeves.

Ei had been reading and signing official documents the entire day. She had expected Sara to return some time after sunset, but it’s been almost two hours since then, and she still hadn’t seen her return.

A heavy landing was heard from the balcony, alarming her, as it differed from Sara’s usual landing. The general was cautious to avoid making unnecessary noise, thanks to her military training.

Carefully, she approached the balcony. It could well be an unwelcome guest. Not that any common assassin could harm her…

To her surprise, it was Miko carrying an unconscious Sara in her arms.

(Do not be shocked that Miko was capable of such a display of strength. She was a yokai with inhuman strength, after all.)

It put her on high alert, as the tengu looked lifeless in her arms.

“What happened to Sara? Is she injured?”

“Hello to you, too. I am doing well, and you?”

Ei wasn’t in the mood to joke around with her, as she still hadn’t received her answer to Sara’s well-being.

“She’s fine. Just drunk.”

“How?”

“That I wouldn’t know. I saw her at the shrine and did what every upstanding citizen of Inazuma would do—I brought her to you.”

That was, once again, a whole bunch of bullshit coming from Yae Miko. Ei would have prodded further, but right now she just wanted to make sure Sara was alright.

She took Sara from Miko’s arms and dismissed her without sparing her another glance.

“Bye, little tengu.”

“Wait, where are her socks and geta?”

“Who knows. Someone took them off so she can take feet pics of her?”

“Feet… Pics? Is that dangerous?”

“Very. Aren’t you glad I saved her?”

“Sure…”

“Anyway, have fun with her. Well, I mean, consent is important.”

Ei put Sara to bed after Miko was gone.

According to Miko, Sara was drunk, but she couldn’t smell any alcohol on her. In fact, there was an unfamiliar sweet scent on her. It was intoxicating. Ei contemplated another deep inhale near her neck, when a small tug on her sleeves pulled her away from that thought.

“What’s wrong?”

“My wings.”

Sara turned around to show Ei her back, where her smaller set of wings was poking at the clothing.

“I can’t let them out…”

Ei had always wondered how Sara’s uniform didn’t get ripped apart when she unfurled her wings. She suspected it might have been some tengu magic. With her intoxicated state, it was only natural that she didn’t have control over her powers.

“It hurts…”

Sara pulled Ei’s hand towards herself and slipped it underneath her shirt, pleading for help. Her clothes were already in disarray due to her failed attempts to remove them.

Ei was going crazy. The teary eyes of Sara looking at her and her begging… It reminded her of the nights they shared. Why did she have to be drunk tonight?

“God is testing me.”

That didn’t sound right to Ei’s ears. Oh…

“Wait. I’m the god.”

After much internal struggles, Ei finally took off Sara’s clothes.

Now Ei had a naked Sara in her bed, lying face down. She spread her wings and the dark feathers gleamed in the moonlight. Her current position made her ripe for the taking. There was barely any distance between them, it would be so easy…

Ei smacked herself in the face for entertaining those filthy thoughts. She wasn’t a pervert. What kind of god would she be if that were the case.

She decided that some distractions would do her well, before she did something unforgivable. Meditation was out of the question, given how excited and flustered she was. Boring work documents would be the next best thing.

It was fine for a while, until she spotted movement in the corner of her eye.

Sara had gotten out of bed and tried to leave the room. Luckily, the door was locked, so no one was able to see a naked tengu walk around Tenshukaku.

“Sara, what are you doing?”

“I want a bath.”

“Now?”

“Please?”

Ei couldn’t say no to her. She brought Sara to her private bathroom.

Tengus weren’t good with water–not to mention a drunk tengu–so she had to keep watch as Sara bathed, just in case she slipped and fell.

“I am watching respectfully.” Ei repeatedly muttered to herself.

At some point, she couldn’t help but think Sara was purposefully seducing her. Everything felt strangely sensual.

The motion of Sara’s hands caressing her own body… How Ei wished that was her hands instead. She knew how sensitive her tengu was, especially her wings, which was why she didn’t get to touch them often.

Water dripped down her body. Ei wished to lick and nibble on her milky skin. The sounds that she could elicit from Sara would forever be engraved in her mind.

Sara was wholly unaware of what her god was thinking about the entire time and enjoyed sitting in the hot water, until she grew alarmingly red in the face. Ei had to forcefully pull her out to cool her down.

Ei patted her dry with a towel. She took the opportunity to give special care to her wings.

Sara always got shy and embarrassed when she touched her wings, as they were very sensitive. She disliked those sounds she let out when they were touched, even if Ei had told her that she appreciated them.

The soft and unique texture of her feathers were different from crows that she had come into contact with. She also thoroughly enjoyed the slight trembling of Sara’s body and low moans as she preened her feathers.

After the bath, Ei felt less easily aroused by her lover’s every movement, which she was glad. Though she did wonder if there was something else in play. She hadn’t been so affected before.

“Is this what Miko calls a… Kink?”

(“A kink, my friend, is like how your little tengu loves being punished.”)

“No, knowing Miko, this must be her fault.”

Ei couldn’t put her finger on it, but she was sure there was something unnatural about how she couldn’t stop looking at everything in a sexual manner.

After what felt like an eternity–not the one Ei had envisioned, for sure–they were done with the bath and returned to Ei’s bedroom.

“What do you want to do now?” She asked.

“Hmm…”

Seeing how Sara rubbed her eyes, she had a pretty good idea.

It was fascinating to her that she was witnessing a childlike Sara.

Ei wasn’t oblivious to the cruel and unhappy childhood that she had. Not being able to have friends and socialize did a lot of harm to her.

(When Sara had nightmares, the cries she let out were quiet, like she was intentionally suppressing them. But they were loud enough for Ei’s keen ears. All she could do was to hold her until she calmed down.

Sara didn’t divulge many details of her bad dreams. She didn’t want to remember them and open up old wounds again. Ei respected that, but she hoped to help ease her pain and trauma. She wished Sara could be less burdened by her past.)

But, now was not the time to dwell on it. What mattered the most now was to get Sara some sleep, as she could barely stay awake.

Ei tucked Sara in once again.

“Will you stay with me?”

“Of course.”

Ei got into bed and wrapped her arms around Sara, who curled up closer to her.

Slowly, as her tiredness accumulated throughout the day hit her, Sara closed her eyes and ultimately fell into a deep slumber.

Ei kept watch over her the entire night.

When Sara opened her eyes, a wave of dizziness hit her. The harsh light coming from the window hurt and made her nauseous. She had no recollection of last night, except that she met with Guuji Yae. Perhaps she fell ill at the shrine and spent her night there.

But that wouldn’t explain why there was someone in bed with her. This person had locked Sara into their embrace. They were so close together that she was practically breathing into their neck.

Could the Guuji have assigned a shrine maiden to watch over her? Maybe the Guuji herself was with her? But neither could explain her current position. She could hardly imagine she allowed anyone to touch her in her sleep and not startled awake.

Curiously, she raised her head and her eyes met with the person who was holding her.

“Almighty Shogun?”

Ei looked at her with amusement in her eyes.

“Sara… What did I tell you?”

“Sorry, Ei. What happened last night?” That was the best question she could manage to formulate.

“You were drunk. Miko sent you here.”

Everything suddenly made sense.

Her headache and nausea must have been caused by her drunkenness, and her current state of undress was likely due to her losing control of her rational self. Not to mention her wings must have been in the way of Ei.

What an embarrassment she was.

Sara broke out of Ei’s hug and kneeled on the bed.

“I apologize, Almighty Shogun. I don’t know what came over me. I should have known my limits and controlled myself better.”

Sara bowed her head. While she didn’t know how she had gotten drunk, she should have been more careful with what she consumed.

“I willingly accept any punishment you deem fit, as I have caused you trouble with my unseemly behavior.”

Ei let out a sigh. She lifted her chin and their gazes met.

“It’s Ei, and last night wasn’t your fault, so there will be no punishment.“

Sara was puzzled. How could being intoxicated not be her own fault? It wasn’t like someone forced it upon her… Right? And why did she feel disappointed, knowing that she wouldn’t be punished?

All of a sudden, she felt her world flip upside down, and now Ei hovered above her with a hungry look in her eyes.

“Instead, I will reward you for being a good girl last night. What do you say?”

The shudder that ran through Sara’s body told her everything before she responded verbally.

“Yes, please.”

Yae Miko received a visitor at noon. She could tell that Ei wasn’t pleased in the slightest, if the lightning crackling in the dark skies was any indication.

“What did you do to Sara yesterday?”

So that was the reason behind this visit. Miko decided she should play along and get something out of this conversation.

“I can answer that question better if you tell me about yesterday in detail.”

Ei proceeded to describe the events from last night, including her own reactions to Sara’s actions. She paused when she noticed that Miko was jotting down notes as she spoke.

“Why are you writing this down?”

“Confidential business secrets. Anyway, how did she react when you touched her wings? Tell me more.”

Confronting Yae Miko was a bad idea, Ei realized too late.

A few months later, a new book published by the Yae Publishing House took Teyvat by storm. It gained popularity due to its unusual story and accurate depiction of tengu biology.
