Work Text:
It was war; even at the respite they were under, UA was safe, but it felt safer with each other in reach, so they all witnessed Izuku get the news.
Izuku knew the moment the officers and his teachers approached him in the rec room with a look of bad news. Standing to meet them, he glanced over them all.
The officers were ones he saw in passing, Browns, and James, but he figured if Aizwawa and Mic-sensei were here, he could trust them. This Izuku thought was probably why they weren’t also taking advantage of the peace to hold Eri. Toshinoriwas probably amidst meetings, or he would be here as well.
The younger officer is the one that looked about to speak, cutting the poor soul off, “She is dead, isn’t she?”
The younger officer looked startled, but the older one nodded, “Yes, Hero Deku, as of 14:06, Inko Midoriya passed due to the injuries sustained during the Hospital Attacks.”
Izuku heard many gasps from his friends because last they heard, Inko seemed to be recovering and was talking only yesterday.
Izuku and Inko had known differently. They said their goodbyes and last requests in their previous conversation.
Izuku stood at parade rest, nodded shortly, “All her last wishes are in order and outlined in her will. Which Nezu, Eraserhead, and Rei Himura all have copies of. Most outlined in her wishes will be executed after this War is over. Except one, as I will be informing my father due shortly,” the last sentence was said with a promise that had hair raise on everyone’s arm. Some swear they saw sparks, but Izuku’s face and body language never changed.
There was a beat, and then Midoriya looked toward where the walls of UA would be, “Respite over.”
Izuku walked out the door before the words could sink in.
“You fucking heard him,” Bakugou cut in the silence and started barking orders. “Respite Over, we got incoming, and only Nerd can walk out there without his fucking gear. Those who haven’t slept in 24hrs to the medical to help carry shit and fuckers around. Those still lightly injured your job is to get the other assholes, the rest into your gear.”
Crackling and blue light filled the room as something hit the barrier of UA and lit it up.
Everyone had things to protect and lives to save, and none of them had time to even think about Izuku Midoriya.
It was amidst a fight, not 30minutes later, that there was a lull in the battle. Most of the enemy forces pushed back except All for One.
There was a loud crackle as anything that could connect to radiowaves sparked to life (spooking many as that included phones), and Izuku’s voice rang out, “Heroes, stay behind the barrier.”
Many listened because they all knew Izuku Midoriya didn’t do sane by this point, and no one wanted to get caught by that, and those that didn’t were held by the smarter ones. Even some villains began running.
Midoriya walked beyond the barrier to stand across the battlefield from All for One.
The monster of a man gestured widely, using his many quirks to project his voice, “Come to finally face me one-on-one, and do what your predecessors all done, and die.”
Izuku’s face was bland as he brought a mic up to his mouth, “No.”
Then he took a breath, and All for One braced for a fight.
Instead, Izuku spoke, “As of 14:06 PM of July 15th 2XXX, Inko Shimura died due to injuries she sustained saving multiple fellow civilian lives, including children in the Hospital Attacks orchestrated by you,” Izuku’s eyes turned sharp as he stared at the faceless man, “As per her request, Hirashi Midoriya-Shigiraki, she wishes to post-mortem divorce you for being the cause of her death and the extensive injuries to your shared child, Izuku Shimura. You have been served.”
The air weighed heavy with this realization. Both sides were unsure of what to do.
(There was a shared thought from two brothers on opposite sides, “wow, they make our family drama look tame.”)
“No, you can’t be,” Hirashi whispered; it was denial; All for One was thrown off balance.
Izuku laughed with his whole body, then snapped up, staring straight where All for One’s eyes should be, “I hold a singularity of a nine generational quirk filled with 8 lifetimes of power. I am the one that could wield it to the fullest. That is what made us look. Only one related to One for All could have unknowingly survived what I was doing. So I am unfortunately your son, but fortunately, Uncle and Aunt made up for it,” Izuku started glowing, and 8 outlines of people burst out on either side of him, including All-Might, which confused some as Torshinori was standing in the communication room watching the video, looking all to knowing about what was going on.
“Hirashi Midoriya-Shigraki, you are charged with Treason against humanity, murder in first and second, abuse of minors and adults, as well as a host of other crimes you have committed,” Nana Shimura stood in her full costume, staring at Hirashi, “The irony I hope isn’t lost on you, grandson in law.”
Another voice continued, a man in with his white pulled back, looking vaguely like Izuku.
“Your sentence for these crimes is too dangerous to live; you are unwilling. Therefore, you are unable to change; you failed, brother .”
“NO” Hirashi screamed, and a power wave washed out, knocking anything standing over except Izuku and the eight ghosts.
“I can just take the quirk, and then you can come with me, and I can get you to see the light-” Hirashi looked at Izuku.
Izuku cut across, “I am eighteen: today actually, I have no need for a man that only cares now that he has realized he has lost more than he was willing in a war he started. You are not or will ever be my dad.”
He had a much better-chosen dad figure life than a man on a two-century power trip.
Izuku turned and walked to stand behind the barriers. The ghosts closed the gap behind him.
“Mom had another message for you,” Izuku adds as the ghost in a combat jacket (Second), and the one with a black bandana (Third) grabbed Hirashi, who was trying to fight back, but they were ghosts. What did they care about physical reality, Hirashi’s head snapped to Izuku, likely going to try and prey on Izuku’s heart or something cliche, but Izuku didn’t care, “Fuck you.”
The rest of the ghosts grasped All for One, as the man screamed, then like a supernova, everything went white, then it was gone, and all that was left were ghosts and suit.
“Finally” The world breathed.
A boy dropped to his knees, surrounded by his ghostly support and finally was able to begin to mourn for his mom.
A teacher ran towards his problem child, another was living in the control room heading toward the same.
A childhood friend arrived first, uncaring of the ghosts and stood sentinel. More friends joined standing guard, only allowing the two teachers to pass.
Villians went quietly and passively, led by just as silent and stunned heroes and police.
Tomorrow would be a new dawn, a new hope.
