Work Text:
Crime fighting meant late nights, sometimes those late nights even lead into the early morning. Which usually results in Dick and Wally going nights without real rest. Settling for a quick thirty to forty minute power nap before working their civilian jobs wasn’t ideal, of course, but you have to make do with what you can.
Tonight would be one of those nights for the pair. Luckily, the criminals weren’t some metahumans or giant mob bosses, just some petty drug dealers with weapons. Guns and knives, the usual in Gotham. But of course, with the more lethal weapons follow the more tattered up suits and a few more cuts and bruises than usual.
So that puts the two men back in Dick’s apartment at 5am, covered in wounds and dark circles under their eyes.
Wally pulls off his cowl, a long yawn escaping his mouth. “That was rough,” he says, and Dick hums in agreement. “Do you want some coffee?” he asks as he opens one of his cabinets. Wally grins over at his boyfriend. “You read my mind. I’ll grab the first aid kit while you play barista?”
Wally knows his way around Dick’s apartment like the back of his hand, so finding the neatly packed first aid kit is easy for him. It’s tucked on the second shelf of the hallway closet, next to some spare towels and washcloths. Wally grabs the first aid kit, as well as a few washcloths, before heading back to the kitchen.
Dick is slouching against the counter rubbing his eyes when Wally returns. The redhead sits everything down before placing a hand on his boyfriend’s back. Dick sits back up slowly and smiles, and Wally couldn’t help but get caught in Dick’s eyes. “Let me clean up your cheek first,” Dick says softly before turning his attention to the first aid kit.
“Okay,” Wally agrees mindlessly. With the mixture of exhaustion and his helpless infatuation with Dick, he can’t help but study every movement the other makes. Wally watches Dick’s eyes as he scans the different ointments, alcohol pads, and Band-Aids. A smile had snuck on his face by the time Dick turned his attention back to Wally.
Dick returns the smiles, as he tears open an alcohol pad. “What are you thinking about?” he questions. “Oh, just how hot my boyfriend is,” Wally says with a teasing tone. Dick rolls his eyes before placing a hand on Wally’s cheek. “Whatever,” he says with a tired chuckle, “I’m going to clean this up now.”
Wally flinches a little bit at the sting from the alcohol wipe, but he keeps his eyes on Dick. Without thinking, Wally gently presses his lips against the others. He wraps his arms around Dick, pulling his boyfriend closer. After a few more seconds, Dick pulls away from Wally with a smile. “Let me finish this up, dork,” Dick demands, but Wally shakes his head. “I’ve got it,” he says, “You finish up the coffee.” Dick agrees before turning back to the almost forgotten coffee.
“I want the Nightwing mug,” Wally says with a grin, winning him an eye roll from Dick. He then grabs some Band-Aids and starts putting them on his face. By the time his wounds are covered up, Dick had already poured Wally’s coffee and prepared it the way Wally likes it. Something about that makes Wally’s stomach flutter a bit.
Wally says a quick ‘thank you’ before taking a drink of the coffee, sighing in relief. He presses a happy kiss to Dick’s cheek. “You’re the best,” he claims happily. Wally watches Dick pour his own coffee into a Batman mug and snorts. “And you say that I’m a dork,” he says. “You’re going to let me patch you up now right?”
Dick opens his mouth to object, but the unimpressed look Wally was giving him cut him off before he could. “Only if you insist,” he says, which causes Wally to smile again. “Of course I insist,” Wally says before grabbing some stuff to clean the wound that sits across Dick’s nose. When he finishes putting the band aid on, Wally leans in and puts a gentle kiss on it.
A soft blush spreads across Dick’s cheek at the sentiment, and Wally definitely takes that as a win. “Think you can call off today?” Wally asks. Dick shrugs, “Maybe. Probably not.” Wally pulls Dick closer to him. “I think you're sick,” he claims, “You need to rest.” Dick laughs a little and leans into Wally. “I can try,” Dick says, “But only if you stay in with me.”
