Work Text:
The bridge was small, with the water sparkling under it, in the city lights. The night was a little more chilly than usual, as it was already the end of summer.
Miku held Luka's hand, swinging it up and down as they went up to the bridge. Her eyes lit up, when she saw the sight from the place she was standing on.
"It's so pretty here," she was amazed, looking at the city from afar, a beautiful nightime picture put in front of her.
Luka answered with a smile that could only be read as "told you so". She stood next to Miku, staring in the same direction.
They were both wearing hoods over their heads, their bright hair, although, not in their usual stage hairstyles, was still quite noticeable for anyone who knew their names. Which was a lot of people. And while yes, Luka loved singing and seeing the excited expressions of her and Miku's fans, she wished she had more days like these, when she could spend time alone with her girlfriend.
Turning her head and seeing the reflection of stars in Miku's bright blue eyes, Luka leaned onto the railing, laying her head against her palm, smiling. The way Miku clapped her hands together when she was excited, how she didn't even notice her hood sliding off, her girlfriend having to fix it for her, the way she was humming one of their tunes as she was focused, staring into the distance... God, Luka would die for her.
She was so enchanted with Miku, that it took her a few seconds to notice, that the girl was no longer looking at the city, nor the sky. In fact, she was leaning over the railing, half of her body hanging in the air, as she pointed her finger towards the calm, blue, shimmering waters below.
"Look, look, I can see the reflection of lanterns from up here!"
She lifted her feet up, her shoes no longer touching the ground. Luka immediately moved towards her, putting her hands around her waist and pulling her back.
And it seems like she pulled a bit too hard, because a second later, both of them ended up falling back and now sitting down on the ground. Luka's hands were still holding Miku's waist, tightly.
"Please. Please, be careful," Luka couldn't recall how many times during the past years she had to repeat that phrase.
Miku blinked a few times, finally understanding what just happened.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Luka-"
Luka sighed, lowering her head onto Miku's shoulder, so close, that the other girl felt her breathing on her neck.
"You better be," she still didn't let go of her lover, her hug only tightening, "I love you."
Miku felt her face turning pinker. She had a feeling, that Luka's going to say something else.
She was right.
"If you'd fallen into the water... Well, that would certainly ruin the plan."
"The plan?"
At last, the pink-haired woman let go, standing up. She gave Miku a hand, so that she could also get back onto her feet. Putting Miku's hands in hers, she was looking down at them, gently tapping onto her girlfriend's hand with her thumb, mastering the courage to say what was on her mind even way before the date.
About a minute or so of silence, no sound asides from the lantern light flickering, and a buzzing heard from the bushes further away.
And then, she spoke.
"Listen, I admire you. Truly. I'm happy for your victories, I'm proud of how much you've grown..."
"L-Luka?" Miku's face felt even hotter after the sudden compliments and she wasn't sure on what to do with them.
She was nervous. Both of them were.
Luka took a deep breath.
"But... it's not the World Famous Idol Hatsune Miku that I love the most. I love you, Miku. And I want to spend more time with you outside of work. Because times like these are what I treasure the most."
She turned Miku's hands around, so that her palms would be facing the sky. After slipping two fingers into her own pocket, her heart almost jumping out of her chest, Luka put a small silver ring into Miku's hands.
"Will you marry me?"
