"Damn it's so hot." Daichi complained as they stood outside of the hot and humid Nekoma gym to try and make the most of the faint breeze passing by.
Many of them were gulping down water like their lives depended on it and others were wafting their t-shirts to let the cool air reach their skin.
"God damn." Kageyama muttered as he leaned against the wall and lifted his shirt to dab at the sweat on his forehead.
The heat was so intense and the thick air made playing long games difficult since there was no ventilation in the gym. He thanked Kiyoko for the towel she handed him and was surprised at how cool it was. He dabbed at his face, neck, back and arms and enjoyed the relief at the slight freshness he felt.
"Okay, let's carry on." Suga announced and everyone returned inside; Akaashi had to grab the attention of Bokuto and Kuroo before they followed, the team all reluctant to return to the sauna that was the gym.
All of the teams played half-matches against each other, this lasting a few more hours, before they decided to call it a day since the afternoon brought intense sunlight through the gym windows that scorched and blinded the players.
Everyone was lying about on the floor, their limbs spread out messily. Their loud pants and gulps echoed around the gym until a few minutes later where everyone was more composed.
"Damn." Hinata muttered, and Kageyama turned his head to see what had caught the ginger's attention; he followed his gaze and found the middle blocker was looking at his torso.
"What?"
"Just, damn." Hinata said again before waving his arms over Kageyama's stomach.
"Idiot, you're not making any sense." the setter said with annoyance before leaning his head back and shutting his eyes with a sigh: he was tired from the mad heat.
"No, like, hot damn. Abs, wow." he heard the ginger mutter.
"Huh?!"
"He's got a point." he heard Yamaguchi say and turned to his other side to see the teen looking at his abs with appreciation and approval.
He sighed and arched his back so he could pull his shirt down, silently cursing himself for wearing slightly shorter clothes due to the heat. He was wearing all black- not the best choice for the sunlight- with shorts that reached just above mid-thigh and shirt that just reached his v-line.
Now that he thought of it, he did think he was getting quite a few long stares from some of the players. Perverts!
"This is a totally random question." Suga began, speaking out loud and several heads lifted off the floor to look at the vice-captain. "But what is the average waist size of males?"
"Suga what the heck?" Daichi asked quietly.
"It just popped into my head. But like, what is it?"
"35 inches." Kuroo answered, and he just shrugged at the questioning gazes sent his way. "Don't ask how I know I just do."
"I wonder what mine is." Bokuto said as he sat up and grabbed the sides of his waist, his fingers not being able to touch.
"How about we measure them? I'm curious now too!" Noya suggested, and Kuroo left to get a measuring tape from the small office.
They each took turns- only if willing- to measure their waists, most averaging at around 33-36 inches depending on height. Kageyama was reluctant but Hinata and Yamaguchi dragged him over; with a sigh he lifted up his t-shirt enough to show his waist. Kuroo wrapped the tape around his torso and he found it was quite cool but welcoming against his body. A moment later Kuroo tightened it slightly and let out a whistle.
"Well, what is it?" Hinata asked impatiently.
"28 inches." Kuroo said with disbelief.
"Whoa!" exclaimed several voices, and the setter just sighed and said they were making too much of a big deal about it as he walked over to grab his bottle.
"I'm gonna grab a shower." Kageyama announced as he pulled off his t-shirt and left the gym to head inside the school to the showers.
For a moment the sun rays beamed down on his tanned skin, highlighting every curve and muscle. He stretched a little before walking off, feeling a little better without the sweaty shirt on. Several of the players just stared at him before they snapped out of it, all blaming their blushing cheeks on the hot weather...
The next morning and the heat was a little cooler due to the scattered clouds in the sky. Maybe it would rain soon? That sounded nice.
The players all took their time waking up, stretching and rubbing away the sleep from their eyes. Usually Kageyama would be up by now and be heading out for a run, but the heat made him drowsy and he burrowed further under his covers.
The three captains went around waking everyone up, well, it was Akaashi from Fukurodani. Bokuto sat up with a pout at how tired he felt, but watched Akaashi with happy eyes: he would make a great captain next year.
"Wake up Yamaguchi, Kageyama." Suga spoke softly as to not scare the sleepy first years.
"No." they both groaned in unison and turned away from the third year.
Suga laughed and let them be for a few more minutes until they began to wake up. Yamaguchi sat up and pushed off his covers, rubbing at his eyes before standing up and stretching his arms over his head.
"Come on Kageyama." Suga said as he sat down by the teen's futon, gently shaking his shoulder. "You're the last one. Usually you're one of the first."
"M'tired..."
The muffled mumbling made Suga laugh quietly and he ruffled the setter's hair before standing up and telling him to wake up, walking around the room and saying good morning to the other players. Their little interaction made several of the players look over at the sleepy setter with smiles on their faces: he looked all soft and squishy. Adorable.
Kageyama sighed and used one arm to throw the covers off of him, feeling the cooler air against his back as he lay on his front. He was glad he wore such a baggy t-shirt and short shorts last night or else he knew he would have been a sweaty mess.
He rolled onto his back and stretched his arms over his head, squinting his eyes from the sunbeams that peaked in through the window. His back arched slightly and he felt a small crack, the tensions from last night's sleep melting away. He softly moaned at the relief he felt.
The he rolled back onto his front and pushed up on his hands and knees, leaning back and stretching like a cat, pushing out his hips. He then sat back on his knees and ran a hand through his hair, holding a hand up to block the sun until his eyes adjusted. Then he pushed himself up and grabbed some of his things, saying he was going to have a shower.
Completely ignorant of the heavy gazes and intense stares sent his way, he slid the door shut behind him and walked down the corridor to the showers, wanting nothing more than to wake up and freshen up. When the door slid shut it was silent in the room, except for the noises of the crickets from the forest outside.
"I-" Kuroo began but words got stuck in his throat.
Everyone just nodded and remained quiet, not bothering to hide their red faces. Why and how did the setter not notice the effect he had on them? How incredibly good-looking he was, especially then! T-shirt that hung off his shoulders exposing his smooth and clear neck as well as sharp collarbones. The way his back curved so effortlessly off the futon into a perfect arch, one that would allow a strong hand to run its way up and down, tracing every muscle and crevice. The shorts that just covered his ass and highlighted his perfect figure when he stretched on all fours, his behind looking so mesmerising and inviting; exposing his perfectly toned and smooth thighs that would look perfect covered in marks and wrapped, clenching, around someone's waist-
"We're fucked." Bokuto whispered, and several slow nods agreed with his blunt but true statement.
They were drawn out of their imaginations by the sound of the shower turning on down the hall. They shook their heads and slapped their cheeks before beginning to get ready, none strong-willed enough to go and have a shower at the same time as Kageyama. They thought of his body covered in water droplets, or sweat from pleasure when one of them-
"Let's head down for breakfast." Daichi announced and led the way down the kitchen area with Suga.
They all distracted themselves with chatter as they made and ate breakfast. By the time they finished Kageyama walked in wearing a white t-shirt and fresh black shorts. His hair was still slightly damp and water fell down onto his shirt making some of his body visible. Several of them gulped and glued their eyes to their food as Kageyama remained completely oblivious and snatched a piece of toast off of Hinata's plate as he walked over to the cupboards to get some food.
"Hey!" Hinata complained but Kageyama just smirked as he looked through the cupboards.
After rummaging around and bending down to look into a few cupboards he settled on cold soba. He took out the noodles and necessary equipment and began to make his breakfast, telling Suga- who was chatting with him- that they didn't have to wait for him to finish before starting practise.
"You can go and set up and stretch if you want." Kageyama said as he watched the noodles cook and cut up some extra side dishes.
"Are you sure?" the vice-captain asked and the setter nodded. "Okay then, join us once you've eaten."
Kageyama nodded and the players who had finished began to leave the kitchen and head over to the gym to set up the equipment and begin warming up. One by one everyone finished eating until Kageyama was the only one left. He looked over at the shut door then around at the empty kitchen before letting out a sigh. Did they always watch him so intensely?
He shook his head to get rid of the thought and finished making his breakfast before sitting on the counter and beginning to eat. It was peaceful and the sun coming through the glass made the room a nice temperature. He took his time eating before getting off the counter and heading over to the sink, putting his dishes into the bowl before turning on the water.
He took out his earphones and slipped them in, turning on a random song as he added washing-up liquid to the hot water. He nodded his head slightly as he listened the music, humming along from time to time too. Eventually he got quite into the song and sang a little, sometimes swinging his hips side to side.
"Could you be my, be my, be my, be my insomniac! Dreaming, got you screaming, heavy breathing, knock you on your back..."
His music was quite loud in his ears that he didn't notice the door slide open and several heads peer into the kitchen, watching him as he did the dishes. Their cheeks blushed at the lyrics and wondered if the setter knew what they really meant. They enjoyed the few minutes they got to watch Kageyama just relaxing and washing up, looking like a cute housewife that they could go up to and wrap their arms around his waist, before turning him around and pushing him up against the counter and-
"He's done, let's go." Kuroo whispered and they retreated quickly and quietly to the gym.
Kageyama dried his hands and made sure all of the water had gone down the drain before putting his dishes away and heading over to the gym. He made sure to grab a fresh, cold bottle of water from the fridge before leaving the kitchen.
Once there he joined Karasuno in stretching and they began the first game against Nekoma. Halfway through the heat began to seep into the room once more and their breaths were heavy and scattered. Kageyama grabbed his bottle and unscrewed the lid before taking several long gulps, tilting his head to the side to avoid any drops getting onto his t-shirt.
Several players watched his muscles as he undid the bottle lid, holding it up and showing his biceps. They watched his Adam's apple bob up and down as he swallowed the water in large gulps, wondering what it would look like when swallowing their-
"Let's continue the set!" Daichi instructed and the teams headed back onto the court.
Kageyama continued to play like normal, oblivious to the longing looks sent his way. The rest of the teens were left to suffer in silence, their desires causing them annoyance as what they all wanted was just in their reach but way out of their league. Damn, Kageyama really would be the death of them.
