The Void King

Chapter 1

History

Hello one and all, I am your narrator for this first chapter my apologies for being so blatant. This first chapter is the history of the world and an introduction some of our characters.
In the beginning the universe was filled with the void ruled by six overwhelming lords each using their power in a struggle to obtain the void crown and claim ownership over the vast emptiness of the that was the void king’s domain. This conflict would endure for eons until one fateful day when one of the lords invoked a powerful spell and a void lord became the first lord of light. The lord of light went on a crusade and eliminated four of the remaining five and forcing the last one into a small corner of the universe. The final lord of the void was forced to flee as the lord of light created the lord of fire, water, earth and wind from the remains of the fallen void lords. The final void lord vowed vengeance upon the light and it fled into a pocket dimension leaving a scar in the fabric of reality.

The lord of light then used his power to fill remaining darkness and so began the universe, suns began to fill the all encompassing darkness and soon planets would follow as the other lords began creating as well. In time life would begin to take hold on multiple planets throughout the universe but one planet in particular had the favor of the elemental lords. This world would eventually become to be known as Sirenia. It would be on this world blessed by the elemental lords that humans would evolve.

Sirenia is a world filled with variety and power, a single supercontinent dominated the surface with a few large islands dotting the massive ocean. The human race began near the center of the continent in a fertile valley where humans blessed by the light set up the first village. Over time as the village grew and explorers and settlers would leave to explore the rest of the continent, setting up smaller villages as they spread out. The first major group to rise was in a desert to the east where the village found an artifact linked to the lord of fire and began to a new tradition based on martial prowess where the strongest ruled. The next major village was to the north at the base of the tallest mountain where the lord of earth had left a gift and it soon became the most prosperous of the villages. To the south near the largest lake a gift from the lord of water was found and village based on agriculture and art arose from its shores. In the west a village grew along the cliffs guided by the lord of wind. Deep in an unassailable jungle a sixth village grew shrouded in darkness it was in the south-eastern past of the continent.

Time passed and the five villages removing the village of darkness grew to dominate the continent each through their own means, creating their own territories. Soon enough wars between the tribes broke out and thanks to the artifacts of the elemental lords certain people within each tribe could manipulate the elements. This caused the land to suffer greatly as the tribes pitched their powers against each other and soon a new power spawned from the darkness created by the war. A entity of pure chaos born from the violent conflict began to ravage it’s way across the land even the elemenatlists those who could use the power of the elements were crushed underneath the power of chaos. The elemental lords soon took notice and came to lend their aid and did so by creating the Primalists chosen by the lords themselves they were granted power above and beyond their breathen and yet despite a new unity in the face of chaos the five young Primalists could not defeat the entity. It would take one final Primalist the Primalist of Darkness to turn the tide and defeat the entity however, the entity could not be killed so the Primalists ripped out its heart and sealed it away in an underground crypt. The entity defeated and gone a peace treaty was signed between the five states with the village of darkness abstaining as they had not once entered the conflicts.

Over time the different states began to unify becoming a nation due to the influence of the Primalists, a central council was formed to help make muti-state decisions and had one member from every nation. The primalists from each nation became heroes and leaders helping lead their respective states into an age of prosperity. However fifty years later a new threat would emerge from the tribe of darkness, the Primalist of Darkness died and a younger successor took their place. This younger Primalist of Darkness hungry for power and ignored by the other Primalists found his way to the tomb of the chaos entity broke the seal and consumed the heart of the entity. The power of Chaos transformed the young Primalist into something unknown and powerful, his form altered into a hulking mass of flesh puss falling out of openings in his skin. Eyes and mouths formed wherever puss filled holes did not and letting out a horrid screech the former Primalist made his way towards the city of light. The soon to be called Master of Corruption left a trail of death in his wake, with every step he took a chunk of his flesh would fall to the ground and poison the land and with every breath he spilled a deadly gas into the air. The other Primalist assembled and attempted to stop him, however his new powers of corruption forced them back and while the Primalists of fire, wind, water, and earth remained behind to stall the Master of Corruption. The Primalist of light returned to the City of Light and began to pray. The elemental Lord of Light took notice and upon see what was occurring on his favorite planet he stepped in and crafted a powerful staff that exuded a powerful cleaning light and handed to his faithful. The Primalist of Light took up the staff and the original artifact of light and went out to meet the Master of Corruption who at this point had killed the other four primalists and was nearing the City of Light. The two would meet outside the city gates and the battle that ensued would last several days and destroy parts of the city and surrounding land, in the end the power of the staff and artifact of light managed to overcome the putrid darkness and purify and sanctify the land around the city. Thus only one Primalist remained and though injured was hailed as the world’s greatest hero, soon after the conflict the area around the Chaos Heart tomb was sealed off due to corruption and the aptly named Hero of the Holy Light called all the nations into a crusade to destroy the village of Darkness. The Central Council agreed and soon armies filled with elemenatlists approached the rainforest where the village of darkness was hidden. The crusade burned and slashed their way through the trees, however the forest fought back and all number of beast fought back as their homes were destroyed. In the end it didn’t matter and while a few lives were lost the village was found, but to the surprise of the crusaders it was empty, not a soul to be found anywhere. Regardless the Hero took it upon himself the burn the village to the ground and left a small outpost behind to ensure no one who could use the power of Darkness would ever threaten the world again.

Soon after the Church of Light rose from the City of Light and began to spread its influence around the world eventually becoming one of the largest organizations on the planet. The Hero of Holy Light would eventually die and the graves of the first Primalists were placed in their respective cities and statues erected on top. The Central Council now without the Primalists now had to find a new way to protect their cities and world, at first vigilante activities help keep crime low but some of the vigilantes went too far in their efforts to keep the peace. It would cause a conflict between those who prefer harsher methods and those who thought the rule of law should be followed. The Central Council soon set up system by which individuals could register themselves as heroes in order to fight crime and not long after an era of peace would begin. However, as is the way of life nothing last forever and a cycle became apparent that roughly every thousand years an individual would rise from one of the cities wielding the power of Darkness and cause a great deal of havoc. This cycle would continue for twenty-thousand years, this also allowed for the cities and their cultures to advance to the point this story begins.

The tribe of Fire in the eastern deserts a massive collection of animal hide tents surrounding a gladiatorial death pit the sand stained red with the blood of many, many men. Their warrior culture was completely patriarchal and from birth boys and girls were raised separately, girls were given to their mothers and raised to be caretakers and mothers handling all the domestic chores. The boys would be raised in camps and trained until the age of ten, then they underwent trails to indicate which position in the tribe they would be placed in. The strongest would become hunters who would spend weeks in the wild hunting for food, the next would become enforcers the tribe’s police force, the weakest would become labors in mines and quarries or in the worst case exiled if they failed. Every five years a contest would be held for the position of chieftain and any man who wish for the title could compete and the strongest would take over leadership of the tribe. The name given to the tribe of fire warriors is The Blazing Suns.

The tribe of Earth in the north spent centuries digging their way into the world’s largest mountain and they had built a massive city within the walls of the Great Khan Mountain. The society was highly stratified with a small group of wealthy clans all vying for power and each specializing in a different forms of production and each clan leader was called a Forge-Master and were the best at what they did. While the economical differences did cause strife within the city, all it took was one external threat to pull everyone together. The name given to this city of producers is The Khan Clan Mountain.

The tribe of Wind to the west the cliff where the original tribe had started long gone due to erosion, however the tribe still existed and all on had to do to find them was look up. While the city of wind was smaller then it peers but was undeniable more advance. It was a city of science that floated through the sky with the use of advanced tech and the artifact of wind. The inhabitants of the city were all wind elemenatlists those who could not use the power of wind where confined to villages and towns on the ground. The city’s many residents were all scholars and researchers and while the random explosion could be heard from time to time they city had no police force, relying on its citizens for defense. The city traveled all over their territory and occasionally others, usually in search of test subjects or research ideas. The name given to this city is The City of Progress.

The tribe of Water in the south on the edge of a beautiful lake had expanded drastically. The original tribe had found the surrounding land very fertile and found that agriculture provided both food and wealth. While the men tended to the fields the women found themselves walking the shores of the lake and eventually the sandy shores of the southern ocean. There they found shells and pearls all of which became jewelry, however it was one jewel in particular would represent the tribe and that was sapphires pulled from the bottom of the lake. From this the city began to split in two with one half becoming full time farmers providing food for the majority of the world with farms as far as the could see and all watered with the lake’s water which sprang up endlessly from deep underground. The other half was filled to the brim with artist and they built a city of white stone upon the lake. The city was a masterpiece with every stone decorated with shells and sapphires others and each building in it own style. The city would grow like this district popping up in particular styles, the city evolved with the world of art and soon became the culture capital of the world and drew people from all over the marvel at the white city. The name given to this city is The city of White Stone and Sapphire Stars.

The final city and the largest by far, the city of Light and home of the Church. This city was two cities in one the exterior part of the city housed the citizens of the city of Light and everything needed for their day to day functions. There are four main avenues into the city each heading out in one of the cardinal directions that meet at a large circle that surrounded the inner city. The inner city housed the Holy Church which towered over the surrounding city and countryside it was so large that it could be seen a weeks travel by foot in every direction a literal beacon to the world. Around the base of the church were smaller buildings that served as homes for the clergy and the church housed the Pope and the higher clergy as well as the many facilities that made the church a place of worship. Once a week the Pope would hold a worship service for the masses of people living outside the walls of the Church in addition to collecting a tithe. There were also smaller churches spread throughout the world with priest that also hold service once a week. The tenants of the Church decreed that all must honor the sacrifice of the Hero of Holy Light in the fight against corruption and worship the now called Lord of the Divine whose power kept the evil of Darkness at bay. This city had two names the outer city retained the name City of Light and the inner city took the name The Holy City.
While the five main cities flourished the village of Darkness had hidden itself away from the eyes of the world having found a way to seal itself off from the rest of the world and had despite the passing of centuries remained primitive at best but in return their power was much greater bolstered by tradition and years of having to track family lines to prevent inbreeding, this allowed powerful users of the Darkness element to make their way out into the world. Some would cause chaos, other sought to bring order, and others simply to find a place to settle down. Every so often these users of Darkness would kidnap children and young women and secret them away to the village.

It would be this world at this time that a group of children are born with the potential to rival the original Primalists and with that potential the world reaches a crossroads. The question is which path shall this world walk?

Notes:

So here it is my own original work, i took a great deal of inspiration from many sources such as Avatar the Last Airbender, Power Rangers, Warhammer, and others that will become more obvious as the story progresses. While I write mu stories as a form of stress relief and a bit of fun I always hope that the people who read them will find the emotion of the story and laugh with me, cry with me, or help me solve the mysteries tucked into my works. As I mentioned on my other work The Crystal Council I intend to alternate chapters in order to keep my mind fresh and more focused on each story. Enjoy the first chapter of my greatest figment of imagination!
