Work Text:
Misaki sat at her work desk, her gray eyes fixed on the music program running on her old laptop, which was currently frozen. “Pleaaase just work,” she groaned, repeatedly pressing the spacebar in hopes that something would make the shoddy laptop work, but to no avail. Normally, Misaki did not have to worry about upgrading her hardware, as whenever she needed to work on composing songs, she had studios near her house she could walk to and use, but ever since moving, getting to a studio required taking a long train ride, but it was far too late and Misaki was far too tired to do so anyway The frustrated girl leaned back in her chair, out of ideas. “I guess I’ll just restart it and see what happens…”
*Hic*
Oh god… Misaki thought as she began to realize the infernal curse that had begun to conjure within her body, truly the most deadly of all viruses, one that no human could ever truly escape from, at least as far as she knew, the evil sickness known as…
*Hic!*
Okay, the hiccups weren’t truly that bad, however, Misaki has not exactly had a stress-free day. She was running on about four hours of sleep, arriving an hour late for an important meeting because she overslept anyway, realizing she had forgotten to buy groceries on her way home, realizing coffee was on the list of things she had run out of, and now dealing with her crappy computer, unable to make any progress towards composing a new piece despite having a big performance coming up in two weeks. Misaki was sincerely hoping nothing else would occur to make her current headache any worse, but alas…
“Why god did it have to *hic* be the hiccups!” Misaki whined as she practically slammed the power button on her laptop. *Hic!* Misaki watched her computer power down until she was left staring at her reflection, wondering what she had done to deserve being in such a mess. With another *hic*, she remembered hearing an account on how to get rid of these annoying hiccups. She took a long, sharp inhale before shutting her mouth and pinching her nostrils shut. One..two..three..four… she counted to herself. Supposedly holding your breath for twenty seconds was supposed to instantly get rid of the hiccups, or so she read somewhere. Now that she had thought about it, Misaki did vaguely recall something like that working when she was younger, and it was the only solution she could think of at that moment. Eighteen, nineteen, twenty! Finally done, Misaki gasped for air, hoping that the irritation was now gone, only the second she did, she felt another *Hic* force its way out. Her frustration peaking, Misaki let out the most horrid groan that could only be compared to the sound of a horse’s dying neigh
“What in the world was that sound,” came a soft voice from the room next, trying, and failing, to hold back her laughter. The said voice belonged to Kanon, Misaki’s amazing blue-haired housemate and lover, tried her best to feel sympathetic in this situation, but it was proving difficult
“It’s not funny Kanonnnnnnn *hic* aaaaaaahhhhh I fucking hate hiccuuuuuuups!” Misaki went from a playful whine to an exasperated shout in an instant. She had always had trouble controlling her act whenever she was stressed or irritated.
“Language!” Kanon barked, and while it wouldn’t seem very commanding because of her naturally soft and timid voice, the message very much carried to her girlfriend, who started to quiet and calm down.
The now slightly mellowed composer turned to stare at a small jar on her desk, half-full of many 50-yen coins. “...This one doesn’t count, it's not even my fault!” she protested
“No passes, Misaki,” Kanon said sternly, now standing right next to Misaki, who jumped a little hearing her voice right at her ear so suddenly. “Did I get you? I heard that if you give someone a little scare, It might get rid of their hiccups,” she said with a small giggle
“Unfortunately I don’t think that’s how it *hic*... yea.” Misaki now looked a little dejected, she felt bad for interrupting her girlfriend and making her worry. “*hic* I’m fine, I’ll just deal with-”
“I won’t let the dastardly hiccups have my beloved, I’ll have to show them that you’re mine alone!” Kanon mustered her best “serious face” and stared at Misaki intently.
The mix of Kanon’s adorable expression and embarrassing words were causing Misaki’s face to grow red and hot, though she didn’t exactly know what Kanon meant by what she said
*Hic*
No sooner than the instant she hiccup leaped out from her chest did she feel soft lips press against her forehead. The bright and beautiful smile Kanon wore as she pulled back only continued to raise Misaki’s mood further. Maybe today isn’t that bad she thought. Misaki tried to lean forward and return the kiss, but the smiling bluenette stopped her in place. “Hey, why can’t I-” Misaki’s words were cut off first by another *hic!* and then another quick kiss right after, this time on Misaki’s right cheek. She finally realized what her partner was doing, but immediately felt disappointed at another revelation: the time between each of the hiccups was getting longer and longer.
Kanon was very much enjoying watching her beloved’s eyes start to light up every time the now infrequent hiccup happened, something she never thought was possible. She had now planted kisses on each cheek, on the bridge of her nose, and the last one on the top of Misaki’s rough hand. After having waited around ten seconds for the previous one to happen, she suspected it to be the final one but stayed and waited regardless.
The two waited, and waited, and waited, and when there was no sign that the hiccups would be coming back, Misaki started to… pout. To Kanon, this was both incredibly rare and incredibly cute. Kanon couldn’t hold back now and pulled her girlfriend in to finally bring her lips to the other’s, the two simply enjoying the feeling and taste of their partner’s lips. After their brief moment of indulgence, they pulled back gasping for air. Misaki was the first to speak. "I didn’t think I would end up missing the hiccups… but that really helped."
Kanon wore a proud grin. “I’m glad I helped, but it’s still probably best to get some rest Misaki, you barely slept last night.
“Hey, I’m fine, I just need to- Woah!” Misaki could barely start her protest as she was dragged by the arm to their bedroom. Kanon plopped down onto their bed, resting her head on her jellyfish pillow, and patted the bed to signal her girlfriend to meet her on the soft mattress. If she’s gonna rest with me… I really can’t refuse. “Fine,” Misaki grumbled before climbing into bed, pulling up the blanket, and cuddling close to Kanon. It was warm and comfortable, and Misaki could already feel her body give in to the fatigue she didn’t even realize she was ignoring. “T-thank you, Kanon. I love you,” she said in a near whisper
Kanon threw her arm to wrap over her girlfriend, keeping her close. “You’re welcome, I love you too, Misaki!”
