Work Text:

It's over. It's finally over. They won. The heroes won and the villains lost. Midoriya was the greatest hero of all time! His mind was rushing. He had done his job. He completed what All Might and the other predecessors couldn't do. Midoriya saved the world from complete disaster that would have been led by All For One into even more darkness. Light would have been totally snuffed out, but it can once again shine because Midoriya stopped the destruction. He and all the other heroes stopped All For One and Shigaraki for good. They would never have to worry. So, as he stood there in the middle of the broken battle with his fist up in the air as the symbol of hope he looked to his left. Midoriya's sure he looks horrible. His suit was in tatters, barely clinging to his body. The green hero's right arm is broken and will probably be completely unusable when it heals. He's got a busted nose, a black eye, and a cracked cheek bone.

Midoriya's hair is matted with dirt, grime, and blood making it look almost black as its shadows. His skin was caked with sweat and debris on top of being bruised, scraped, and gashed. He was battered pretty badly in battle but so were the other heroes. He wasn't alone on the battlefield after all. His exhausted eye found the powerful blonde because the other was swelling shut. Yep he definitely has a black eye. Bakugou was just a couple meters away looking worse for wear, but Midoriya thought it was the most beautiful sight he had ever seen. Though all of the darkness they have been in it was nice to finally see some light. It spurred the shorter to start stumbling towards the other hero. Apparently, he broke his ankle which made it much harder to walk, but he ignored the pain in favor of picking up his speed. His adrenaline spiked and did most of the work for him anyway. Midoriya wanted to see Bakugou. See him up close. See that he was okay. To make sure that he was real and that they had won together.

He wanted to hug Bakugou until he passed out from the wound on his side that was bleeding. He couldn't wait so he picked up his speed again, rushing as fast as he could carry himself when he saw Bakugou carefully standing up and trying to find his grounding. The blonde looked so beautiful even in his battle worn state. Once he got close enough, Bakugou looked over to the sound of footsteps that interrupted the quiet after the battle cooled down and red met green. Midoriya started tearing up as he smiled a wobbly bright smile. It was so bright that it almost made Bakugou have to look away as he teared up too. Bakugou opened his arms since Midoriya was already making the motion for a hug as he ran towards him. It seemed to be a natural reflex for him. They collided and Bakugou fell backwards into his butt. It hurt, his whole body hurt, but he kept Midoriya secure in his arms. After all that's happened, he'd never let the smaller stray too from arms reach ever again.

"We won Kacchan!" Midoriya said as he cried into the blonde’s shoulder

Bakugou sniffled quietly and freely. He knew his childhood friend wouldn’t judge him.

"You won Izuku. I'm so proud of you." He said, only making Midoriya weep louder

"K- Kacchan won too." Midoriya said after he calmed down a bit

"Damn right I did." Bakugou said, cocky as ever even though he felt weak and tired

Midoriya looked at the blonde.

"Yeah, I always knew you were great." He said with a small smile

"We were great together, Deku." Bakugou replied sincerely as he took in a shaky breath

Midoriya looked into those red eyes he admired so much all his life that it eventually turned into desire and he nodded to agree with the blonde.

"H- Happy birthday Kacchan." He said softly, almost weakly as he leaned forward and pressed his chapped lips to Bakugou's

Right, it was April twentieth. The blonde was startled, but melted and kissed right back because he would take anything Midoriya was willing to give him. Even if it was only friendship or something more like this. So they kissed like it was their last day on earth. They were in the middle of a broken battlefield where they won the fight against evil while the sun was starting to come out again to greet the survivors of war. The world would be able to continue as it did before once they do some fixing up. Humans almost always bounce back after a disaster and this time wouldn't be any different. Bakugou felt so blessed to be hugging Midoriya, to have the smaller care so much for him, to be in his presence, to be kissing the shorter, to have been friends with him, to have been in battle with him. That's why tears ran down the blonde's smooth pale face when Midoriya stopped kissing back in favor of slumping against his childhood friend's body and closed his eyes. Bakugou himself was feeling entirely weak, he could barely see and the weight against him was almost too much.

"Thanks, Izuku." He said as he looked up at the sky one last time then he fell back with the weight of Midoriya and everything went black

Two shooting stars ran across the sky when Bakugou and Midoriya were found laying together. They were hugging when the police discovered them later in the day. That's what they were, shooting stars. Intense burning beings with one mission, one path, and that to defeat evil. Then in the end they burned out, but as they say it's better to burn out than to fade away.
