    “Marry me!”

    “No.”

Ryuunosuke did not realize his world would turn upside down. Until first year, when he was still Ryuunosuke who had his hair blond, frown was always always visible, and smoke kept emitting from his aura.

He did not really change change, he just… felt he knew who he was supposed to be with the moment the most beautiful woman he had ever laid his eyes on stepped on the doorstep of the gym.

He could still remember the way his heart shattered like a glass when she said no.

When he was in high school, he saw her. He was kind of aggressive to the people who might be coming for her, however, as he did, he realized how far she really was to him. She had everyone on their feet, even him, and all he could do was to calculate what he wanted to do for her.

She was beautiful. The way she walked, the way she laughed, even the way she talked to her co-manager, Yachi, was pretty. She was the epitome of elegance, and grace.

And when the third years graduated, Ryuu thought even harder. Kiyoko would eventually meet more people, more potential significant others, someone even better probably.

    So it was a risk.

Going to her university, observing people around her, the way they talked to her, and the way she talked to them. He realized, it really was a risk.

Maybe, she wasn’t just the sun.

But she was all the celestial beings above the people whom everyone admired, adored, and got enticed to.

He could still remember the way his heart shattered like a glass when she said no.

But now, he could also remember the joy he felt, the way his tears fell, and knees shook when she said yes.

    “Ryu!” she called.

From sitting, Ryuu stood up abruptly, holding inside his pockets tightly. He found her near the sink of her apartment, she was wearing a blue shirt with a dog print, and a cotton short. Her black apron was above those, as she sported a loose ponytail.

    “Come, taste this.”

Ryuu swallowed the lump in his throat. He could feel his knees wanting to give up, so he held on to the table which was fortunately there. He smiled, walking nearer when he felt he could.

She was smiling when he went beside her. Her hand was holding chopsticks with some tempura in it. He opened his mouth right away. “How is it?” she asked, eyes gleaming with sparks.

    And that’s it.

She just smiled, and his world collapsed.

“Marry me,” he muttered softly, eyes staring directly at her.

Kiyoko’s eyes shifted from happiness to surprise, until it became full of confusion. That’s just where he realized what he just said.

    His eyes widened. “I—I—”

From confusion, Kiyoko’s laughter enveloped the area. She was clutching her chest, holding onto his arms for support. “Sure! Right now?” she giggled.

Instead of laughing, Ryuu felt his cheeks reddened, ears and neck warming up, and knees began to shake once again. However, he held her right hand that was holding on to him. “No, I’m serious,” he said, softly, if you could even call that soft. It was weak, his voice was weak, and it could only go that weak when he’s with her.

Her smile faded, making him more nervous than he already was. “Wait—what?”

The lump in his throat formed again. There he was, in front of the goddess he always wanted to spend his life with, doing the bravest thing he’d ever done in his life. “Kiyoko.” He clenched his fist, tightening his grip on the velvet box inside his pants. “Do you want to marry me?”

“What the heck—Ryu?!” Kiyoko laughed, and if her hand wasn’t shaking, Ryuu would think she’s taking this lightly. “Of course!”

Ryuu bit his lower lip as his heart felt light, and warm when he remembered that scene years ago. Today was their anniversary, and he was thinking about what special he could do for his wife.

    Wife.

Yes, she’s his wife, he’s her husband.

Years later, that still sounded so nice.

He let out a huge breath. Slowly, and careful not to wake the woman of his life sleeping on his chest. He looked down on her, admiring her thick and long lashes, nose, down to the mole near her lips. Her little snore made Ryuu want to giggle to himself, but refrain himself from doing so.

Everyday closer to her, he just fell over and over.

He was about to close his eyes again, pulling Kiyoko closer to him, but their alarm suddenly blared. He glared at the alarm clock for a second, before turning it off. Once he did, he looked at his wife who suddenly moved away.

“Good morning,” he greeted, dropping the alarm on the bedside table.

Ryuu’s heart made every gymnast move when her eyes met his. She smiled. “Good morning,” she greeted back, yawning.

“It’s still early, you can sleep more,” he said when he noticed she was still half laying on their bed, her hips to her feet laying on the ground as she hugged the big blue teddy bear they had.

She just groaned, making him chuckle. “No, really. It’s our off, remember?”

    She nodded, eyes closing.

When she finally fell asleep again, Ryuu smiled to himself. Well, it’s just normal to be that tired after what she did yesterday. Both of them took overtime so they could be free for today.

Ryuu stretched his way out of their bedroom, moving towards their kitchen. He washed his hands before preparing the ingredients of the vegetable pancake he’s planning to make.

As he stirred the onions, he could not help but look back when he was still not knowledgeable enough to cook a simple omelette, but he realized he did not want her to be the only one who would cook for them. He could remember the times when she was still teaching him how to cook a simple dish, it became one of their bonds actually.

He was about to reach for the plates when he felt an arm wrapping around his waist. It’d been years, but he could still feel the butterflies in his stomach moving around, it’d been years but she could still make his knees weak every time.

“Smells nice,” she murmured on his back.

“Of course, I cooked,” he  smirked jokingly.

His laugh resonated in the area when she felt her hand slapping her chest.

Rather than getting a plate like he intended, he let their position stay like that, holding her hand as he swayed their body to nothing in particular. He felt her vibrating behind him, making him turn around to face her.

“Happy anniversary,” he murmured, still holding her hand.

She smiled, the same sparks never left her eyes. “Happy anniversary.”

They stayed silent for a few minutes more, before he decided to hum something. He had no music in mind actually, but he was humming something. Ryuu had never been the best singer, even his hum sounded tone-deaf at the moment. He was scrunching his nose, closing his eyes, forcing his throat to produce sounds as they swayed.

He opened his eyes to look at her, but she could not even look at him properly. She was just laughing. She was trying to hum something, and albeit wanting to hear his wife’s beautiful voice, he wanted to hear her laugh more—so he did not stop, making her laugh win over her beautiful sound.

“This is stupid,” she said between her laughs.

He laughed, winking at her. “I like stupid.”

“Yes? Yachi! Do you have them? Do you have them?”

He heard Yachi laugh from the other side of the phone when she heard him rushing. He was about to speak again when she heard another man’s laugh. It’s familiar, but—”who’s with you?” he asked, left brow raising to the ceiling of the place he rented.

Yachi’s laugh faded, clearing her throat. “Oh, I’m with Tadashi! We’re actually babysitting Ichigo,” she explained, pertaining to Kuroo-san and Daichi-san’s son.

He nodded repeatedly, squinting his eyes even though he knew she could not see him.

“Anyway, Tanaka-san! We’ll just deliver them to you later. Is everything ready there? Suga-san said they’re on their way, but don’t worry, I’ll make sure to give them to you before there.”

That’s when he remembered he was doing something. He looked at the karaoke he set up, and the food he cooked while he let Sugawara-san get Kiyoko from him. She knew he was going to do something, she just did not know what.

    “Yes… I guess,” he answered.

He heard her laugh again, before they turned the call off.

He wiped the cold sweat forming on his forehead, brushing the imaginary dusk away from his white long sleeved polo he deliberately rolled to his elbow.

A sound from his phone made him stop from checking himself out, indicating Yachi’s already downstairs.

“Yacchan… and Yamaguchi!” he was confused, but he managed to give the two his scrutinizing eyes.

Yamaguchi plainly smiled at him, scratching his head shyly. “Tanaka-san.”

Yachi giggled, not minding the tall man behind her. “Here’s what you need, Tanaka-san!”

“Thank you, Yacchan! Where’s Ichigo, by the way?”

“Don’t worry about him, Daichi-san fetched him from us before we got here.”

“That’s good.” He nodded repeatedly. “Anyway, didn’t you say you're still off somewhere?” Once again, he squinted his eyes at her and Yamaguchi.

Yachi looked behind her, and laughed. “Ah! Yes, but it's just Hinata, he was inviting us for dinner.”

Still squinting his eyes, Tanaka remained nodding his head, making his two juniors laugh. “Alright, take care on your way.”

His grip tightened on the paperbag he was holding as he let the two walk away. When they were out of sight, he did not mind the stares, but walked faster than he should be until he reached the room.

He sighed. Deafening silence enveloped him, and nothing could be heard aside from his breathing while waiting for Kiyoko. Once again, he looked around, checking if everything was according to the plan when he heard a knock.

His eyes widened, wiping the sweat from his head before running towards the door.

    “Hi.”

    Ryuu’s jaw fell.

Kiyoko was wearing a plain dark blue sleeveless velvet dress, reaching her thighs. Her eyes reflecting the lights behind Ryuu seemed to be more beautiful than it ever was, as her lips parted when she saw him. It’s not new to him to see her this pretty, but it always felt the same.

    He cleared his throat. “Hi.”

He moved away from the door, and watched her reaction. She’s just walking, observing the karaoke set up, the food… how dare she be this pretty?

“You made this?” she asked, eyes meeting his.

He nodded. “Uh… yes.” If people were going to look at them right now, they would look like a fancy couple eating at a fancy diner, but instead, Ryuu decided to prepare for her, making it casual and simply comfortable. “Well, we’re always eating outside every anniversary, so I… decided to come up with this.”

She nodded. “Then, what are you still doing there? Let’s hear your songbird voice.” She grinned.

And all his worries went away.

“... for centuries!” Kiyoko kept laughing by his side as he finished FOB’s Centuries.

She wiped her tears. “Didn’t know you could hit those notes!”

“I didn’t know either!” He laughed, hands moving to the small of her back for support as she threw her head back to laugh. “Oh, wait.”

Her change of emotion surprised Ryuu. “What–what?”

She smiled at him. “Here’s my gift!”

He gaped at her, almost forgetting to get the paperbag from her hand. “What’s inside?”

She shrugged. “Why don’t you look at it?”

He did. He was greeted by a bright orange pair of rubber shoes. “Oh.” Was all he could say, joy filling his heart.

He thought that was all, but what surprised him the most was when she wink, smirking, tilting her head upwards slightly. “So, you know I’m always with you.”

He could not react right away. He just sat there, surprised, hand remained on the rubber shoes.

“What?” she laughed. “Isn’t that how you do it?”

That’s where his lips broke into a grin, biting his lower lip to prevent himself from screaming, laughing out loud. “Then, here’s mine.”

Her laughter paused as she got the small box from her hand. She looked at him as she opened the gift. A watch with black strap, and touches of orange on top. “This is—”

He smirked, joking as he winked. “So, you know I always have time for you.”

Kiyoko’s jaw dropped, before a laugh erupted from both of them.

Ryuu shook his head. “This is stupid,” he said, fondly look at her eyes.

She smiled. “Oh, I like stupid.”
