Emma’s house is unsurprisingly quite lively at the moment. Draken and Mikey, mostly Mikey, had invited everyone over, it was to be the reunion of Toman’s founding members but it was inevitable that others would have slipped in, notably, Naoto who was currently shaking his head at his sister and his soon to be brother-in-law blush and giggle like newlyweds on their honeymoon phase.
“Draken, truth or dare?” Baji was all smiles now. His sharp canines were on display for everyone to see, Kazutora doesn’t remember seeing his best friend drink but the slight flush on his cheeks indicated one of three options, one that Chifuyu was sitting too close to him, the other that it was actually getting hot in the room and it wasn’t just Kazutora being delusional and the third option being that he was drunk. At this point, it might have been a mix of all three of them.
“Dare, not anything too ridiculous, though, Inui will be expecting me to be working tomorrow,” Draken’s smile paralleled that of Baji. They only ever really played this game when they were drunk, a now much rare moment of childishness, he supposed. It was a good opportunity to just forget about everything for a while, even though that was kind of impossible for Emma and Draken.
“Keep it down, the baby’s going to wake up,” Emma sighed but she didn’t particularly look annoyed. Instead, she sat down next to Draken. By then, Baji seemed to be starting to get worried about his lack of ideas, there was an unspoken rule that their parties would have to be rated family and nobody was willing to break it.
“I dare you to tell us what was that original name you were going to choose for your baby,” it had been somewhat of a mystery, Draken wouldn’t tell them and Mikey had seemed to find it funny that nobody else knew, whereas Emma had refused to say the name. Draken seemed to blanche a little bit at the dare but still went along with it.
Baji groaned when Angry suddenly spoke up and told them that he would be bringing his brother back now, completely drowning out Draken’s voice. Baji mumbled something about this round not counting but he was quickly dismissed by the round of goodbyes from just about everyone.
Pah had passed out at some point in the night and had to be brought back before a certain hour by Peh-yan, they had been the first to leave, something about Pah’s wife having called him to ask him where he was. It was unfortunate that the twins were leaving now but nonetheless, Kazutora waved at them and wished them a good night.
“Emma… no? Alright then, Hakkai… Wait did he seriously pass out?” Draken sighed at the view of Hakkai sleeping on the sofa not far from them. Emma only smiled fondly at Mitsuya when he said that he’d be bringing Hakkai home. Draken turned to the next person, which was Mitsuya, as Emma was too tired to play. “Mitsuya, truth or dare?”
“I’ll have to take truth,” Mitsuya hummed. By now, the party was starting to feel more family-like, it was quieter, with the loudest having either left or passed out. The only ones still playing were Takemichi, who wasn’t really playing considering he was just talking to Hinata and laughing with her now, Baji, Chifuyu, Draken, Mitsuya, Mikey and Kazutora.
“Was it actually you that ate Hakkai’s limited food last time?” It had been some kind of limited-edition cake that Hakkai had brought over to Mitsuya’s so that they could eat it together. Unfortunately, at the time he had arrived, Mitsuya hadn’t been home so Hakkai had decided to leave the cake in the fridge and text Mitsuya to call him when he came home. Neither of them had expected Mitsuya’s sisters to actually show up at his home the second he came back but by the time Hakkai had been called, none of the cake was left.
“In my defence, I thought Mana and Luna brought it for me,” Mitsuya’s answer didn’t deny that he was the one who ate it. In Hakkai’s confusion, he had just assumed that Luna and Mana had eaten the cake, thinking that Mitsuya had prepared it for them but now that the truth was coming out, it was kind of funny. It was rare to see Mitsuya this flustered.
“So, it really was you!” Hakkai shot up from the couch and immediately groaned before falling back down. They were all startled at his sudden awakening but as if in a trance, Hakkai fell back asleep in no time, seemingly having not noticed that he'd woken up in the first place. They stared at him, ready to see him rise again but when he didn’t, they went back to the game.
“Right, Kazutora, truth or dare?” Mitsuya had a kind of lazy smile on his face; at times like this, Kazutora wasn’t sure if he wanted to trust his guts or not about Mitsuya’s intentions but he supposed there couldn’t be much harm done. He pursed his lips, Takemichi was still talking to Hinata but technically, he was still part of the game so shouldn’t it have been Takemichi’s turn instead?
“Truth,” Baij groaned as if he had heard something unflattering but when Kazutora shot him an unimpressed look, Baji only grinned back at him. Chifuyu looked like he was just about to fall asleep, sleeping on Baji’s shoulder like that. Kazutora figured that for the next round, he would sit next to either Chifuyu or Baji.
“Is it true you have a crush on someone?” The little twinkle of interest in Mitsuya’s eyes was barely noticeable but sitting right in front of him made it hard to go unnoticed. Mitsuya was good at playing off his interest but this time, Kazutora spotted it, that little twinkle of mischief, he made a mental note to not sit next to Mitsuya if there was even a next round, Chifuyu was seriously looking sleepy now, considering how suspicious he was being.
“Yes,” he replied simply. He glanced at Baji again, questioning but this time, Baji didn’t meet his gaze. He should have known that Baji would have spilled the beans but at least, from the looks of it, Mitsuya still didn’t know who it was. He wasn’t sure if he was supposed to commend Baji for keeping that information back or be annoyed at the fact that he had even let it slip in the first place.
“Wait, on who?” Chifuyu’s sleepy gaze would’ve made anyone coo at his adorableness but with Baji standing, or sitting in this case, guard right next to him, it would have been a dangerous thing to do unless your name was Mikey. Kazutora ignored him and proceeded to ask Takemichi if he was still playing, when he got the same answer as the last two rounds, that he’d play in a sec, Kazutora turned to Mikey.
“Truth or dare?” He wasn’t sure why he didn’t say the other’s name but Mikey didn’t seem to mind. He pretended to think about it and then, to no one’s surprise, said dare. Kazutora’s dare was for him to tie two little ponytails on the top of his head. Under normal circumstances, Kazutora likely would have done anything to not be sitting next to Mikey just to avoid a situation like this, but as it was, he had been drinking a little bit more than he’d initially wanted to.
Emma and Hinata easily provided the hair ties necessary for the process and even Takemichi turned around to look at the invincible Mikey tie two short uneven ponytails on the sides of his head. Kazutora couldn’t hide the way his eyes lit up in joy or the look of pure joy that was likely starting to spread on his face.
“Chifuyu, truth or dare?” Mikey asked with a steady voice as if he hadn’t just tied his hair into a rather ridiculous hairstyle a few seconds prior. Chifuyu had kind of woken up from the whole ordeal and his eyes were kind of sparkly. Baji was already chuckling and Kazutora knew it to be one of Baji’s tactics.
He wasn’t sure how it was supposed to work but it worked, Chifuyu chose dare. Mikey dared Chifuyu to let him draw on his face. Chifuyu seemed to find the situation mildly terrifying; if his features were anything to go by but in the end, he still allowed it. Draken left to grab some leftover Halloween makeup paint from their Halloween even stash and handed it over to Mikey.
The drawings were rather tame, a monocle on one eye, a really badly drawn beard and the wonkiest mustache a guy like Mikey, who Kazutora was almost 99% sure had only drank fizzy drinks the entire night, could possibly draw when he wasn’t even drunk. Chifuyu wasn’t allowed to see what he looked like but didn’t seem too bothered by it when Baji just told him he looked good.
Kazutora suspected that Chifuyu could have shaved his head bald and a simple compliment from Baji about how shiny his head was or something of the like would have been enough for him to just parade around. They got up and shifted around, the new order, starting with Chifuyu was him, Takemichi, Mitsuya, Kazutora, Baji, Mikey and Draken.
He’s managed to not sit next to Mitsuya but somehow had managed to end up next to Mikey again, albeit now, their orders were reversed. He’d proposed Baji to switch places so that Chifuyu could sit next to him but unfortunately, Chifuyu spoke up at that exact moment so his proposal went unnoticed.
“Takemichi, truth or dare,” Naoto stared at Chifuyu, there seemed to be some kind of distrust going on here but considering what Chifuyu said next, Kazutora didn’t blame him for it. Takemichi, against everyone’s expectations, decided on dare, for all the previous rounds that he’d actually been playing, he’d only settled on dare once and had instantly regretted it when Smiley had replied that it was a good choice.
“How brave of you,” someone commented but Kazutora didn’t quite catch who it was. Instead, he leaned back against his left arm and started fanning himself using his shirt. He really didn’t think that he was overdoing it, it genuinely was hot despite the fact that only he seemed to be bothered by that.
“I dare you to play six minutes in heave with Hina-chan… or was it seven minutes?” Chifuyu blinked in confusion. Baji replied with a chirpy nine at the same time as Draken and Mitsuya replied with seven. The final consensus was that it would be 7 minutes in heaven and off Takemichi went, but not before he’d asked Mitsuya if he was going to choose truth or dare.
Naoto mumbled something about Chifuyu being an enabler but Kazutora suspected that it wasn’t that Chifuyu hadn’t heard it but more so that he chose to ignore it. Mitsuya replied with dare, no such a surprising thing considering he’d been mostly altering his answers every round or two.
“I dare you to down the little shot glass of vodka on the table over there,” Takemichi pointed in the general direction of the glass and frowned a little bit before commenting on how far it was. Chifuyu gladly went to grab it and at the same time, grabbed the half-drunk bottle of water that had been abandoned on the counter and placed it on the table.
“What kind of dare is that? We’ve been drinking all night,” Draken kind of laughed but there was no real heat behind his words. Mitsuya downed it in one go and set the cup down gently, almost as if he were afraid that he might break it. Wait a second, what had happened to Kazutora’s mental note?
“Truth or dare?” The mischievous twinkle was back in his eyes but this time, it looked twice as worse as it had originally had been. Kazutora had a vague feeling that he had dug his own hole by not lying previously but here he was. He knew that there’d be no getting out of this one, the outcome would be the same no matter what he chose.
“Dare,” he replied nonetheless. As he was facing Mitsuya, he didn’t notice the kind of condescending smirk or the knowing look on Baji’s face as they glanced at each other. He didn’t notice the way Draken was glancing at Mikey or the way Emma was smiling, looking at her brother and giving him a thumbs-up.
“I dare you to call your crush,” Mitsuya almost sounded triumphant. But in all honesty, that was likely a product of Kazutora’s imagination. There wasn’t a good reason for him to take out his phone, considering his crush was sitting quite close to him but it gave him a little moment of respite.
“You probably shouldn’t call him on the phone, the sound it makes…” He trails off when Chifuyu and Baji give him a look but Naoto has got a point. Nobody needs sharp noises disturbing them on a lovely night, it doesn’t make him feel any better but he supposes that if everything goes wrong then he can count on Baji, Chifuyu and maybe even Mitsuya and Naoto to help him through it.
“So, he’s here… Who is it?” Mikey sounds mildly apprehensive and the look in his eyes is rather unreadable. Kazutora doesn’t hold it against Mitsuya, he somewhat deserved it after he’s exposed Mitsuya’s feelings for Hakkai. Yet, he still shoots him a nervous look, to which Mitsuya returns with a smile, a knowing one that kind of catches him off guard. It’s almost like he knows something that Kazutora doesn’t.
“Is he seriously asking this?” Baji questions and under normal circumstances, Chifuyu probably would have told him off but he doesn’t this time. Even Draken looks like he knows something that either Mikey or Kazutora doesn’t know about. Emma, on the other hand, seemed to be rather excited about this whole situation.
“Wait, do I have to say something specific to them?” Kazutora might be trying to drag this out as long as possible but Mitsuya just gives him a look and shakes his head. Kazutora isn’t quite sure if the world is spinning or if it’s just his nerves that unsettles him but he turns to Mikey. Baji leans towards his back, allowing for Kazutora to see Mikey, to be fair, he doesn't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that Mikey can now see him properly.
“I have a crush on you, Mikey. Baji, truth or dare?” He says it all in one breath and the immediate switch catches Baji off-guard but he still replies with a stuttered truth. Mikey doesn’t interrupt when Baji overshares about his favourite cat and accidentally includes Chifuyu into the mix as well.
“Mikey, truth or dare?” Baji turns his head away from Kazutora to look at Mikey, not that it makes much of a difference. Kazutora can feel himself blushing and it’s mostly why he’s got his head down and looking anywhere but in Mikey’s directions. His face feels hot and something tells him that there’s a pair of eyes staring at him.
Maybe he should have brought the hair tie Chifuyu had suggested him bring, something about him always complaining that he never has a hair tie when he actually needs one when it’s too hot outside.
“Dare,” there’s a definitive tone to the way he speaks; Kazutora dares to glance up and immediately looks away when he catches Mikey’s intense stare.
“I dare you to kiss your crush,” Baji’s grinning again; Chifuyu rolls his eyes but doesn't tell Baji off. Wasn’t this kind of a cruel thing to do? Kazutora had just confessed, albeit very quickly, and now they were asking his crush to kiss someone else in the room.
He didn't dare look up and it wasn't because Mikey's gaze was definitely still on him. The thing was, he really didn't want to know who Mikey's crush was, he was okay with letting Mikey go if the other had someone he liked but wasn't this a little bit too early?
Mikey’s index slipped beneath his chin and lifted his head up. Mikey was stunning with black hair, Kazutora noticed. He must have been blushing rather furiously because Mikey’s other hand comes to rest on his cheek, it’s cool and unconsciously, Kazutora leans into his touch. Mikey’s thumb brushes against his bottom lip and he smiles.
“You’re mine, right?” Mikey gives Kazutora enough time to run away, to turn his head around or to say no but when Kazutora just stares at him, wide-eyed and brain completely short-circuiting, Mikey leans in for the kiss.
For a moment, Kazutora isn’t sure he’s even feeling anything, there’s nothing but the feeling of Mikey’s slightly chapped lips and the taste of some odd combinations of fizzy drinks but it’s sweet. It’s sweet and Mikey’s kissing him tenderly, lovingly, something that Kazutora hadn’t even imagined in his wildest dreams because he hadn’t even thought it possible for Mikey to return his feelings.
“Chifuyu, can you send me that picture? This can be great material for Kazutora to do me favours,” Kazutora hears someone say in the distance. The kiss is relatively chaste, lasts maybe a moment longer than necessary and when Kazutora goes to touch his lips as if he wants to make sure that they had really kissed, the whole lot of them except for Mikey and Kazutora start to groan and laugh, some mumbling about this having taken too long and others beyond joyous about their kiss.
“Didn’t know making up with someone required kissing too,” Naoto teases from the sidelines.
“You don’t say.”
“You’re mine,” someone mocks but with no ill-intension, Kazutora thinks it’s likely Baji considering he’d been there when Mikey had said that to him the first time.
Kazutora’s pretty sure his brain is still short-circuiting but at this point, he’s not sure what he’s supposed to be thinking about. Mikey seems surprisingly controlled but his ears are kind of flushed pink. It’s a cute look on him and when Mikey asks him out and he says yes, more cheers erupt from all around. He even gets a pat on the back from Draken.
“What about my turn?” Draken asks once the cheers finally die down, somewhere along the night, Emma had slipped her hand into his.
“Let’s all play together another time, this was the most fun I’ve had in a while!” Emma looked delighted. Her eyes sparkled with a kind of joy that made Draken blush; he couldn’t deny it, every time he saw Emma, he knew he was falling deeper and deeper for her.
Her hand was warm in his grip and in a sudden moment of weakness, he kisses her in front of everyone.
“Do you think he’s competing with Mikey and Kazutora?”
“Did you really just ask that?”
“Would you believe that, I actually got that on camera, Taka-chan!” The house would be filled with more laughter for the next half an hour or so until finally, Emma and Draken could enjoy the night together. After all, the future awaited them and there were plenty more of these parties that they could throw.
