Chapter Text
"So why are we at Dineys again?" A bored Alexis poked at her giant waffle. She was quite done eating.
"What's wrong with Dineys?" Maria muffled voice emerged from the stack of pancakes she was shoveling into her mouth.
"Not really a breakfast person to be honest. Couldn't we do Burg Berg instead? Or at least Denby's or something. I want a burger."
"Burg Berg isn't open this early and Diney's has a better breakfast menu than Denby's."
"We could have gone later."
"And miss all you can eat pancakes?" Never at any point in this conversation were there not pancakes in Maria's mouth.
Suddenly Lily emerged from her plate of half-eaten bacon and untouched toast.
"I wanna go to magical girl prom! Take me to magical girl prom Maria!"
"Why do you want to go that badly?" Maria asked, continuing to display poor table manners.
"Because it's a social gathering of magical girls of all kinds. You know how rare that is? Let's be honest...most of us are pretty cliquey. But there I can talk to them without intruding on their friendzone!"
"Don't you have to plan to go to prom pretty far in advance?" Alexis chimed in.
"Not that far ahead if you don't plan on doing it up to the nines." Maria answered.
"See, it's fine. Let's go let's go!"
"Lily I was planning on asking Emma." Lily looked gobstuck. "Emma is La Pantera." Still Gobstuck. "From the wrestling company my mom owns and I am now employed in."
"Oooooh...why her?"
"Because she's cute as hell."
"Why are you waiting until the last minute to ask her then?" Alexis piped in.
"Because Ma had a hard rule about me not asking the wrestlers out on dates and stuff until I turned 18."
"That had to be a rule?'
"Well Ma thought it had to be a rule anyway." Maria rolled her eyes.
"Maria can you please stop eating long enough to have this conversion?" Alexis had finally had enough of Maria's bad conversation etiquette.
"Bah, you're just as bad as ma." Maria put down her fork and promptly downed the milk that was next to her.
"You can ask out Emma anywhere. Ask her to Dineys." Lily began pleading.
"Oh yeah that would go great for a first date." Alexis barely concealed a snicker. She then crammed a chunk of waffle into mouth. "Hey Emma I think you're super cute and would like to see you again." She spit out in a half muffled mocking voice.
"Pleeeeease. Only seniors and their dates can go and I already asked a bunch of them."
"Oh founder fine Lily. But you owe me for blowing up my spot like this."
"To be fair there's no guarantee Emma would have said yes anyway. None of your coworkers look like fancy high school dance types." Alexis chimed in.
Maria only moaned.
"AND YOU SHOULD GO TOO ALEXIS!" Lily yelled, causing a few early bird diners to turn their heads.
"Lily how the hell is that going to happen? I can't get in without a date either and the only senior we know well enough to ask is going with you."
Suddenly a moment of kismet struck Maria. In that brief second all the world's threads combined and everything seemed connected as a glorious whole.
"Holy shit I forgot. I almost completely forgot with finals and my debut and stuff. Alexis, there's somebody who wants to meet you."
"Uh ok that's sudden. Why?"
"I don't know. But she asked me at the beginning of finals."
"Why didn't she just find me instead using you as an intermediary."
"She well...she seemed like kind of a fan."
"But she's a magical girl?"
"Yes."
"And a senior."
"Hard to tell but she was in the lecture hall with me. And she sure looks old enough to be a senior."
"Ummm...okay. Did you get a read on her?"
"SCREW GETTING A READ! She wants to ask you to prom! Maria you should have remembered!"
"I was busy helping you find a new partner, debuting as a wrestler, going through finals and losing my powers."
"Do it Alexis. GO TO PROM WITH US!"
"Ugh, fine. Did she give you contact information or anything?"
"Yeah, I think I stuck it in my wallet. Good thing. If I put it in my room we'd never find it." Maria dug into her pockets. "Here it is."
"Ok um...I guess I'll call her and I guess we can talk and what happens happens. I hope she's not expecting anything romantic."
"What is so cool about boys over girls anyway? I don't get it." Lily chimed in.
Maria remembered a very important conversation she had with Lily a few days ago.
"Trust me Lily, for some people it's very important. I know you can't really understand what it is. But it is."
"Oh, ok."
Alexis dreaded how this day was going.
