Skinny Jeans

Summary:

A brief one-shot set during the High School Year One Internship with Best Jeanist. Our OC Inazuma Kana encounters Bakugou Katsuki for the first time. This is mostly just backstory/ filler for my OC Inazuma Kana.

Notes:

I just really couldn't get the idea of Bakugou in skinny jeans out of my head.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

High School Year One internships, Genius Office

"Good morning everyone!" Says Best Jeanist. "With the new interns here let's do some introductions and an ice breaker."

Collective groans come from the office.

"Alright Newbies, introduce yourself, your quirk, and what job you would have if you weren't a hero"

The team goes around the room clockwise, sharing personal details and random ‘normal’ type jobs they would have if not heroes.

There were four interns this season at The Genius Office. Twins from a school in Tokyo, Bakugou Katsuki from UA High, and Inazuma Kana from Ketsubutsu High.

Finally, it came around to Inazuma.

“I’m Inazuma Kana, my hero name is Lightening Dragon: Ryu, my quirk is Atmospheric Electric Manipulation, and if I wasn’t a hero I would be a meteorologist. “
A few hums of approval from the group.

“Thank you, Inazuma-san. Very en-lightening! And our last intern- what about you?” Best Jeanist says, then gestures to Bakugou and stares intently.

“Bakugou Katsuki, Undecided, Explosion, and I would always choose to be a hero." The blond says, sounding bored with a look of irritation.

Inazuma smiles, looking at him. She likes his honesty and his costume is quite flattering.

The two make eye contact, and Inazuma gives a tiny smile. Bakugou frowns and looks away.

The introductions wrapped up and assignments were handed out.

“Everyone, head out. Bakugou, please stay. Team 1, Team 4 my office.“

Inazuma gets up and follows the group out of the meeting room and into a larger office with desks and workstations. The more experienced heroes and sidekicks take the interns over what goes on daily and the agenda for the week.

Cafeteria, Internship Day 2 of 5.

Inazuma and Bakugou are sitting together, eating their lunches. The two had started to warm up to each other. Well, as best Bakugou can. He had been sitting alone, sulking after Best Jeanist had forcefully combed his hair into a ridiculous style. Kana comes over and sits down across from him. “Damn, you look-”
“Shut the hell up.” Bakugou snaps.
“I just mean-” Inazuma starts
Bakugou interrupts again “No. Don’t say anything.” His eyes are narrow, staring hard right at Inazuma.
“It’s kinda cute,” Inazuma says softly, her face turning red. Her hand races to cover her mouth but it’s too late. His eyes narrow at her, as if not hearing correctly.
Embarrassed, Inazuma tries to smooth over the situation. “Uh- I mean- it’s not so bad, they gave us all little makeovers.”
She commiserates about having had her uniform changed and her hair styled differently also, but not as dramatically as Bakugou. Inazuma had been given a denim jacket to replace her usual black one and had her hair styled with a denim headband.

“I mean- look at me!” Bakugou exclaimed. He was so angry. He couldn’t keep it in any longer, his words started tumbling out. “This isn’t cool at all - I’ve got skinny jeans and - UGH! Why are they so tight? Why does my hair have to be so smooth?! I look soft.” He was yelling. It didn’t matter, they were the only ones in the break room.
Inazuma’s eyes had gotten wide and she was staring. She had never heard Bakugou speak that much, let alone be that candid.
“What?” He barked, staring back at Kana.
Inazuma blinked and burst into laughter. She couldn’t help it, they both looked ridiculous. This angered Bakugou at first, but he started to calm down and half-smiled.
“Alright, enough, Weather Girl. Quit laughing, you know your stupid jacket is just as fucking funny as my pants.”
Inazuma took a few deep breaths to stop laughing, and smiling said “I’m sorry. This all just too ridiculous.”
“Yeah, well, don’t tell anyone about this. Got it?” Bakugou barked.

They both eat for a bit, sneaking glances at each other and making small talk.

“So, why did you choose this agency?”
“To work with a top-5 rated pro hero. “ He said as if it was obvious. “What about you?”
“I need a little bit of polishing, I guess you could say. “
Bakugou furrows his eyebrows, questioning.
“The public image, PR, styling… That kind of stuff. Be a little more elegant, as Best Jeanist would say. This agency has a great reputation.“
Bakugou scoffs at the mention of his mentor.
Her watch beeps, signaling the end of her lunch break.
She stands up, gathering her things and clearing her tray.
“Tomorrow, I wanna know your hero name!” She said, giving a small wave over her shoulder and walking out the door.
Bakugou huffed and started to clean up his lunch.

Cafeteria, Internship day 4 of 5

“You’re going to try to tell me you thought that Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight was a good choice?“ Inazuma laughed.
Bakugou furrowed his eyebrows deep and grunted.
“It’s perfect. What do you know? Extra.”
Inazuma rolled her eyes. She knew better than to give in to his taunting. She had grown to like the guy, despite his usually sour expression and negative attitude towards others. Bakugou had been kind of nice to be around this past week.
Maybe I should get his number and ask him out, She thought.
“Back to it. Later, Weather Girl.” Bakugou said with a nod, getting up from their table and leaving.
She nodded back with a small wave, “See ya.”
One more day, she’s gotta ask him tomorrow.

Internship Day 5/5, outside front doors of Agency

Inazuma was standing so close she could almost touch him.
"Well, it was nice to meet you, Dynamight. "
"You too, Ryū."
Inazuma was about to ask to exchange phone numbers and keep in touch when his taxi pulled up.
“Later, Extra.” He said with a grin and hopped in the car.
He was gone. But at least Inazuma had the pictures of them in their denim uniforms to remember him with. Or sell to the paparazzi when he becomes the #1 hero in a few years.
