Work Text:

It was two hours after midnight.

The after-hours of a gruesome hunt were exhausting and full of painkillers, beer, and listening to some good old rock.
At least that was it for Dean.
Sam on the other hand was more the relaxing type, with a book or a podcast to fall asleep to.
Sam found Dean's post-hunt routine bad, and so was the other way around.

However, both of them agreed that this night was going to be different.

With everything Sam, Dean, and Cas went through together, there was no doubt that Dean had feelings for the angel.
He felt a brush of safety whenever he saw Cas or talked to him.
Castiel is Dean Winchester's comfort zone.

Sam knew what was happening between them, he had noticed that long ago and had been aware for years.

If only Dean would open up to Cas...

But tonight is the night.

Tonight is the night that Dean gets to confess his love for cas.

The bunker was dark, empty, and quiet.
It came back to life the moment the two brothers opened its door and got in with weary legs that barely made it down the metal stairs.

Dean threw his duffel on the table and took a seat, staring at the wall, lost.

Sam came from behind him and pinched his shoulder.
"Hey big boy are you okay?" he teased him purposefully.

"yeah..."

"but?" Sam was very unfamiliar with this version of his brother, and he knew something was out of place.

"it's just what we talked about on our way here."

"and?" Sam thought the discussion was completely normal.

"the whole me and Cas thing." Dean hesitated to get the words out.

"what about it Dean?"

"is it really that obvious?"

"you love him Dean, and that's great, I'm happy for you, I really am, but I've never seen you feel like that about anyone, so please don't waste that... don't waste Cas."

Sam gave his big brother the speech he needed.

after Sam went to deep sleep, Dean had this wave of shock.
where was his brain all that time?
he was the first person to get whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted.
but this was not whatever, this was Cas.
an angel.
a friend.
Dean's only and true desire.

he felt his hurt, bleeding body collapsing.

that was usually the time he would go over to Cas, who doesn't sleep and just sit down next to him.
admiring his face as he discovers something new that fascinates him about humanity.

in Dean's eyes, planet earth became a better place the moment an angel named Castiel walked on it.

with his breath becoming shorter and faster by the second, Dean felt this urgent need for Cas.
like he was going to lose him if he didn't reach out at that exact moment.
he even wanted to pray for the first time ever.

Dean closed his eyes, contemplating how to start a prayer.
not just any prayer.
a love prayer.

he thought and looked all around his head for words.
the unsuccessful search seemed to last forever.
only one word came out of Dean's mouth at last.
"Cas?"

the sound of two perfect wings flapping was followed by a very calm "hello, dean."

dean was astonished that the angel showed up in a split second.
for him.

Cas scanned Dean who was normally asleep at that time.
"what's the matter?"
no response from dean.
"you look terrible, are you okay?"
but dean was just out of words at that particular moment.
out of energy after the long, painful hunt.
he could barely lift his head and let his eyes meet Cas's.
he tried standing up, but his body gave up.

his vision was blurry, but he noticed that Cas was holding him.
Cas looked worried.
"dean ? can you hear me ?"
dean's eyes were barely open, but the part of them that was working, was completely focused on Cas.
he fought to open them a little bit more, to see the angel better, but they didn't respond.

Dean was woken up by a huge bump on the road.

"sorry." Cas said from the front seat of the impala while driving, "I didn't mean to wake you up."

"what the hell happened Cas? and where are we going?" said Dean whose body was laid down in the back seat.

"your body was smashed, I healed it completely, and zapped us here."

"why?" Dean was beginning to feel the effects of what being alone with Cas does to him.

"you willingly prayed to me Dean, for the first time ever, you didn't have to, but you still did."

Cas parked the car in front of a beautiful lake.
there was only Dean, Cas, and the car.
Cas zapped himself to the backseat next to Dean, their legs touched, sending shots of energy up Dean's body.

"and that is very special to my heart Dean." Cas said, tears forming in his ocean-blue, perfect eyes.

He leaned in a little bit more to face his hunter.
the hunter reciprocated, getting closer to a point where his breath hugged the breath of his angel.

"Cas, there is something I've been dying to tell you for a really long time but I never really-"

"I know, me too." Cas's hand brushed Dean's cheek ever so gently, comforting him.

"so?" Dean wasn't sure he was ready for what was about to happen.

"so we do what we always wanted to do, right here, right now."

Cas intertwined their fingers, declaring their new beginning.
Dean took his free hand and stroked Cas's back, while leaning in for the best kiss he ever had so far.

the kiss lasted long, too long, almost like they were trying to suffocate each other with flames of love and devotion.

Cas finally pulls back, fixes his leg and positions it on top of Dean's lap.

Dean lays his palm on Cas's knee and slides it up, working his way to Cas's hip, while kissing him deeply in the process.
he grips the angel's hip, causing Cas to smile during the rest of the kiss.

Dean uses his other hand to pull the angel closer, to pull his angel closer.
they become very close.
but their legs come in the way.
Cas puts it to an end by straddling Dean, and dean allows him.

if an outsider witnessed how tightly they were clinging onto one another, they would think that they couldn't ever let each other go.
and they were not planning to do that anytime soon.

kissing.
touching.
moaning.
giggling.
it was euphoric.

Dean rested his head on Cas's chest.
Cas planted a gentle kiss on dean's forehead.
they watched the sunrise.
hands joined.
no words.
just feelings.

it was magical how the toughest man, the hunter dean Winchester who fights monsters, who saved the world, can be softened by one angel of the lord.
the same applies to the mighty Castiel.

but that was theirs.
and it was special.
