"I know I'm a hunter and everything but I didn't think we'd be meeting our dinner so up close and personal today.." "Shh! You'll scare it away!" Tarana shushed her.
It all started with Gia asking Tarana out for dinner someday and here they are. Hiding in a bush, observing a boar which was supposedly their dinner today.
Tarana quietly drew her bow and aimed at the animal's neck. "This one's for you, watch this." She nudged the other woman. Taking a deep, concentrated breath she let go of the string and.. missed. The boar's gaze shot in their direction and fled right after. "Gee, thanks. This means so much to me." Gia snorted. "That was on purpose." Tarana scrunched her nose and stepped out of the bush, getting caught on some branches in the process.
She now stood where the boar was, with hands resting on her hips. "Our dinner just ran away." "Y'know we could always order take-out or something. Durr Burger's not far away. It's not a big deal." Gia suggested.
"Durr Burger? Pizza Pit is way better." "Don't tell me you actually like their "food". Their pizza is incredibly soggy." "That's what makes it good though!! It brings out all the flavor, instead of Durr Burger.. more like... Dumb Burger.. ." Gia raised an eyebrow at her. Tarana pursed her lips. "Anyways, their burgers are super greasy and oily." "That's the same thing, Tara." "Whatever." Tarana scoffed.
Suddenly there was something quietly rustling in the bush right next to them.
"Sh! Did you hear that?" Gia put her finger on Tarana's lips to silence her. "Quick, hide!" Gia pulled Tarana behind a tree. Out of the bush hopped a small chicken.
Tarana moved forward to take a better look but Gia held her back. "You watch me this time." She snatched Tarana's bow and aimed. "You think you're better than me, huh?" Tarana joked.
Gia shot the arrow and success!! "I am." She smirked.
She walked towards the animal carcass and picked it up by the neck. "Hmm, I don't think it's enough for the two of us." Tarana looked over her shoulder in disappointment. "Oh, man." She frowned. Gia looked at the sky and sighed. "It's already getting dark. We should head back. You can pick some herbs on the way." She wrapped the chicken in a cloth bag she brought with her and secured it on her backpack.
The two girls slowly strolled back to Primal Pond, taking in the fresh evening air. The soft breeze felt very pleasant on their revealed skin. The birds chirped their final good nights and the stars woke up after a long day. It was rare to have peaceful moments like this on Apollo, so they tried to enjoy it while it lasted.
Finally arriving at Tarana's little cottage, they prepared some potatoes, they picked up on their way, as a side dish, seasoned the chicken with the herbs they found and put it in the oven.
It was a long day for both of them. While waiting for their dinner to finish, Tarana and Gia went outside and lead her pet chickens inside the coop. Tarana then laid down on the soft grass, feeling each blade tickle her skin lightly. After a while, she looked at the other girl and patted the spot right next to her. "Come lie with me."
Gia smiled softly, lying down and making herself comfortable. Both of them looked at the night sky. There was no light pollution caused by big city lights, like in Sweaty Sands, which means you can see every star and constellation with just your bare eye. Tarana appreciated these little things. It always reminded her of her childhood.
"You look like you're thinking really hard. Don't strain your little brain too much." Gia snapped her out of her thoughts. Tarana turned her head towards Gia to reply with a sassy comeback but ended up giggling when she saw her face.
Her little laughter caught Gia's attention. "What's so funny? Is something on my face?" "No nothing.. well yeah, your freckles are glowing." She smiled. "Oh." Gia blushed slightly, covering her face. Tarana gently took her hands in hers. "Hey don't hide them! I think they're cute!" Gia groaned. "Really, I do!" "You think so..?" "Yeah! Look! They remind me of the stars." She said, reaching for the sky.
Gia chuckled to herself. "You're so corny, did you know that?" Tarana let go of her hands, giggling. They continued to watch the stars for a while before she pointed at something. "Oh look it's Orion! I haven't seen this one in a while!" Gia smiled at her. "Oh yeah! That's cool."
"What's your favorite constellation?" Tarana turned her body towards Gia. "Hmm, I like Leo.. I think." "Yeah? My favorite is right.." Tarana touched Gia's freckles. "..here!"
Gia looked at her with wide eyes. "Oh, stop it!" She playfully batted her hand away. They both lay there, just laughing all their sorrows away. Tarana leaned on one arm, focusing on her beauty marks again. "What if I connected them with a sharpie or something? I think you'd make a beautiful constellation." "Oh, you're so.." She drifted off.
Their faces were suddenly so close. Their noses were brushing and Gia could feel her warm breath on her skin. Tarana softly stroked her face with her thumb. Have her eyes always been so pretty? She's never felt this nervous before.
"Can I-" Before Tarana could finish the sentence Gia pulled her in for a kiss, arms sneaking slowly around her neck. Her sudden reaction took Tarana by surprise but after realization hit her she fully cupped her face with both hands, deepening the kiss. It was short but sweet.
Pulling away they were both speechless. They looked at each other for what felt like minutes. Gia broke eye contact first to burry her face in the crook of Tarana's neck. "Thank you for today." Gia murmured. Tarana lovingly rubbed circles on her back, feeling her body shiver in her arms.
"Are you cold? Come on, let's head inside. I think our dinner's ready too." Tarana tried to get up only to be pulled down by the smaller woman again. "You're so comfortable. Can we stay like this for a bit?" "Fine. But it's on you when my kitchen burns down."
