Work Text:
Yuuta and Toge entered McDonald's at 11PM because they were both craving something to eat. Both of them decided to go to the nearest place there was to eat at.
When they set their first foot in, Toge signed Do you want to eat in or order it, wait until we get it and go home?
Yuuta looked at their hands and replied "I want to go home and eat when we get it." He had gotten pretty good at reading ASL after he learned it with Toge a few months back. It was during the summer before their sophomore year of high school. Toge could and did talk. Sometimes. He used ASL because he didn't really want to talk too much. Before Toge had learned sign language, they didn't talk very much with the words they used. He spoke whenever he needed to and where words were crucial.
Everyone who knew Toge also knew basic ASL
The couple walked to the queue which was almost non-existent. It was with a person they had known, and the person working on the shift as the cashier was also someone they had known. It was Zenin Maki, their classmate as the cashier, and Itadori Yuuji, their underclassman in the year below them.
"Hey, Yuuji," Yuuta greeted his underclassman after he was finished with his order. "Who knew you'd be the type to stay up this late?"
Homework Toge signed. It was probably correct knowing that his history teacher always assigned homework, including this time of the year, when they had a big project. Both Maki and Toge had the same history teacher.
Yuuji nodded. "It's due like in a week, and I've been procrastinating. You know Mr. Geto, he's not that lenient." He scratched the back of his head in nervousness, and looked down sheepishly.
"Hey, Toge and Yuuta. Why're you two here?" Maki chimed in curiously, leaning over the counter with her elbow on it and her hand supporting her face.
Yuuta replied with "We were kind of hungry so we came here, it's the closest place to Toge's house." When he said "Toge," he pointed to his partner.
"Oh, so that's when Toge eats. I've always figured they just never eat. This is my first night shift here, I have to lock up and everything," Maki complained. "Toge never really eats during the day, does he?" She said accusingly, straightening up.
Yuuta looked sheepish while saying "His cravings are always at night, apparently. That's what I learned a month ago."
It was true; when they started dating, the two did stay together after school more. It was nearing Christmas and they both really liked having sleepovers during the colder of the nights, usually during the weekends or whenever they had the day off. Today was Sunday, and they had to go to school to school the next day. The two disliked waking up at 7AM, but Toge hated school as a whole. Yuuta disliked the commonly hated subjects, but he did like the art classes he took.
"My co-worker's almost done with your order as I can see it," Maki said after she looked behind herself. "Can I be honest about Nishimiya?" She asked as she spoke with a voice just above a whisper so only the 3 she was talking to could hear.
All of them agreed to let her talk about her co-worker, either with a nod or verbally.
"She's kind of condescending, she always talks about equality for women, but it's really excessive. It's her only personality trait, to be honest." Maki murmured, looking behind herself to see where Nishimiya was.
They didn't really talk about that after that because thankfully she came up and dropped off Yuuji's order. He picked it up and left right after, but not before he said bye.
"Alright, give me your order, guys," Maki said as she got ready to type in their orders.
They had decided on their order; it was their usual every time they went here late at night. 2 10-piece chicken nuggets Toge signed.
Maki saw the ASL and understood, but asked "That's it? You guys must not be craving that much, huh." She still put the order in.
"It's what we usually get," Yuuta muttered shyly.
"Fine, do whatever you want," Maki said.
After a few minutes of more talking, they got their chicken nuggets.
Toge picked up the two boxes filled with chicken nuggets, and left, waving his hand good-bye.
"Alright, have a good night, Maki," Yuuta said as he exited the door.
It was snowing outside while the two were walking home. No one really knew when it started, but when they got to Toge's house, you could see the snowflakes falling into each others' hair. Before they entered the house, Toge looked up at Yuuta's hair with the snowflakes. Yuuta reached for the doorknob as Toge looked at him with an admiring gaze.
They quickly muttered "cute" and walking through the now open door. Yuuta definitely heard this because he just froze, a definite sign of being flustered. He just stood there with blush creeping onto his cheeks. When he finally deciphered the message, he unfroze from his stiff position.
Yuuta spoke one word from his mouth. "Pardon?"
Toge looked up while he was taking off his shoes. "I said 'cute.' Is there something wrong with that?" He asked in a clearer voice.
"Nothing's wrong with that, Toge, it's just the fact that you rarely ever talk! And you said that I looked cute without signing it," Yuuta blabbered as he turned into a tomato red gay mess.
They looked at their boyfriend with a subtle smile. "You want me to use ASL to tell you that you look cute?"
"No," Yuuta rejected Toge's proposal while nodding his head aggressively. "No need to, Toge!" Yuuta did honestly love when he heard Toge talk. His voice was pretty and soothing. More therapeutic than anything Yuuta had heard. Or maybe Yuuta was just a simp. The most likely outcome was that it was both.
Toge hugged Yuuta and said "Let's eat now," after they let go. The couple walked to Toge's room to munch happily. Only the day after, they regretted their decisions of sleeping late.
