Work Text:
Draco was assigned a new mission.
While his eyes scanned the parchment brief, his mind calculated different strategies to approach the investigation.
He had weathered many challenges in his years as an Auror. Yet this case was unlike any he faced.
In a strange twist of fate, he, the former Death Eater, was selected to lead an operation that involved being in Muggle London.
Draco combed his fingers through his hair. His superiors knew the merits of his performance.
It would be remiss if he approached this investigation differently.
Like every other mission, he needed to canvas the area. An area he had never been before, let alone a world he'd never set foot in.
Draco knew he needed someone familiar with the location to guide him.
There was only one person that came to mind.
A bushy maned woman in the Department of Magical Creature Regulation. The same woman he teased and tormented in his youth.
Granted, he already apologised, which developed their amicable relationship.
But Salazar knew Draco was developing quite a liking for her.
Keeping away from Hermione Granger was the sensible thing to do.
Resigned, Draco exasperatedly ran his hand down his face. This was the better option, lest he go to Muggle London himself and risk getting lost.
He marched toward the department and found his target.
"Granger," Draco cleared his throat to get her attention.
"Malfoy. Why are you here?" Hermione's eyes widened in surprise. He hoped it was a pleasant surprise.
"I need your assistance for a mission," he observed the subtle golden strands mixed in her chestnut curls. "It's fairly minor."
"Of course."
"But you haven't heard what it is yet."
"You helped me with a large project last time, it's the least I can do."
“Very well, I need you to accompany me to Muggle London. To survey a couple of areas."
"You, Draco Malfoy, in Muggle London?"
"That's right. And you're my escort."
Hermione's mouth was agape in shock. All Draco could think about was what it would be like to press his lips against hers.
For Merlin's sake, this might be more difficult than he thought.
