Loki didn't often have bad days since he lived with Mobius but today was one of those days.
It was that kind of day, where doubt came to haunt him, where he wondered if his happiness was real, where he wondered if he deserved it at all.
Loki had gone through this day as usual, with a tight throat, avoiding as many people as possible and immersing himself in the most boring administrative tasks of the TVA so as not to have to think. Mobius knew this and always did everything to make his time easier.
That's why, when at the end of the day, Loki heard behind him the sound of the house door closing on him, he sighed with relief.
"Welcome home." Mobius called from further into the house.
Loki smiled at first at the sound of the familiar voice, then just as he was about to answer, his throat tightened and he couldn't hold back the unexplained tears that ran down his cheeks. It was an emotion that he couldn't hold back, a mixture of joy, relief, too much happiness, he didn't know. He had an irrepressible need to cry and because he knew that here he didn't need to wear a mask, he let the tears flow.
He headed into the kitchen, where Mobius' voice seemed to be coming from, but with his eyesight blurred by tears, he didn't see Croki sneak in front of him and startled at his growl when he stepped on the alligator's tail.
"Oh crap, I'm so sorry buddy!"
Loki dropped to his knees, picking up the alligator.
Fortunately, Croki held no grudges and allowed himself to be coaxed.
"I didn't expect to see my two loves upset when I walked into this kitchen," Mobius said as he entered.
Loki turned around, Croki still snuggled up to him, and said softly, his voice still tight, "You know what kind of day it is."
Mobius nodded, looking concerned, "I know, Sweetheart."
As he stepped forward, Croki jumped to the floor and walked out of the room as Mobius wrapped his arms around Loki.
Loki melted into the embrace, the warmth and strength that Mobius exuded being all that Loki needed at that moment.
Mobius lifted Loki's head and asked gently, "Do you want me to take care of you?"
Loki shook his head, unsure, "I don't want to be a burden."
Mobius replied, "I'm not asking you what you don't want to be, I'm asking you what you need now."
Loki whispered against Mobius' neck, " You, I just need you."
Mobius pressed a soft kiss to Loki's forehead before taking him to the living room and sitting him on the couch.
"I'll be right back." Mobius whispered, placing one last kiss on Loki's lips, before heading to their room.
Mobius returned a few seconds later with a blanket. Not just any blanket, it was a blanket Frigga had given them, something she had made herself, for them.
Loki felt the tears welling up again and didn't bother trying to stop them as Mobius sat down next to him and hugged him, wrapping the blanket around them both.
Loki buried his face in Mobius' neck as his tears continued to flow. Mobius said nothing, just continuing to hold Loki in his arms and kiss his hair from time to time.
Croki took the initiative to join in the cuddling and slipped between Loki's feet, causing Mobius and even Loki to laugh, though Loki’s laugh was wet with tears.
The three of them stayed like that, in the comforting embrace until the tears dried up and Mobius felt Loki being relaxed against him.
He asked him gently, "Do you feel better?"
Loki raised his head and with a trembling smile answered Mobius with a kiss. He felt much better and it was thanks to the man who understood him better than anyone else.
The man who allowed him to be himself.
The man who accepted everything, even the bad days like today.
The man with whom he did not need to hide his tears.
When he stepped back to take a breath, he whispered against Mobius' lips, "I love you."
Mobius wiped away one last tear that had escaped and kissed him before holding him close again.
"I know. I love you too."
Croki growled to remind himself of them, and they both laughed, exclaiming, "But yes, we love you too, little rascal!"
And the rest of that bad day faded away in their joyful laughter.
