Certain As The Sun

Summary:

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, a young prince lived in a shining starship....

A (gently cracky) retelling of Disney's 'Beauty and the Beast' with Rey and Kylo/Ben as our romantic leads, complete with song lyrics.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, a young prince lived in a shining starship.

Although he had a legacy that any being would have desired, and mystical power as great as any in his family before him, the prince was sad, lonesome, and desperately angry.

But then, one winter’s night, a mysterious gold-robed creature came to his starship, and offered him a life of meaning in return for his soul.

Seduced by the creature’s empty promises, the young prince sneered at every gift his family had ever bestowed, and turned those who loved him away.

His mother warned him not to be deceived by appearances, and offered him a single red spinebarrel flower as a symbol of hope.

But the Darkness he found within himself consumed him. He accepted the creature’s will.

When he dismissed his family again, the gold-robed creature’s promises melted away to reveal nothing but lies and control.

The prince tried to extract himself from its grasp, but it was too late, because his family had seen that there was no Light in his heart. As retribution, he transformed himself into a hideous masked monster, placing a powerful curse upon his own life.

Ashamed of his monstrous soul, the prince concealed himself within his starship, with his mystical powers his only window to the outside world.

The spinebarrel his mother had offered was in fact an enchanted flower, which would bloom until his thirty-first year. If he could find his way back to Light by learning to selflessly love another and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then his curse would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.

As the years passed, the prince fell into despair and lost all hope. For who could ever learn to love a monster?
